Estimating low-frequency oscillation modes and the corresponding mode shapes based on ambient data from WAMS measurements has a promising prospect of application in power syst.m analysis and control. The present approaches estimate the modes and mode shapes respectively, which greatly reduce the computational efficiency. Besides, there is no good solution for the problem of discriminating real modes from the spurious ones caused by numerical error. A method based on stochastic subspace method was proposed in this paper. By choosing the angle measurements of all buses as input signals for the method, the modes and simultaneously the corresponding mode shapes of any bus can be estimated conveniently. By introducing the idea of reference channels, the computation complexity was substantially reduced without decreasing the accuracy. Stabilization diagrams technique was introduced to discriminate the real modes from the spurious ones. The test case based on the IEEE-118 syst.m indicated that the method proposed is satisfying in respect of both computational efficiency and accuracy of results. © 2011 IEEE.

Impedance method and single terminal travelling wave method are analyzed in paper, applicable scope of optimized solution is presented. Impedance method is of high robustness but low accuracy. Single terminal travelling wave method offers high accuracy but poor robustness. Optimized solution combines these two methods together, takes advantages of both methods. It is a great enhancement to single terminal fault location. This paper analyzed theoretical basis of optimized solution, proposed the calculation algorithm of fault location range using impedance method. Analyses of impedance method and single terminal travelling wave method show that the optimized solution is suitable for engineering application. Error analysis is proved correct by simulation. © 2011 IEEE.

A two-level distributed state estimation method for substation-dispatch center is proposed. After zero impedance three-phase state estimation based on KCL has been applied in substation, up load ripe data are treated in dispatch center level and the single-phase state estimation for all grid implemented. The detailed discussions about the architecture, algorithm, ripe data transmission, time setting and period selection, transmission protocol and transition scheme for the method are given. The results of calculation example show that this method is in favor of simultaneously identifying three-phase bad data and topology error, reducing communication burden, and increasing the reliability of the dispatch center state estimation for all grid. © 2012 state Grid Electric power Research Institute Press.

This paper presents a new control strategy for three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) pulse width modulated (PWM) rectifier without power source voltage sensors. The relationship between instantaneous power and voltage vectors is derived mathematically. Virtual flux is estimated and used to calculate the phase of the power source voltage and instantaneous power. On these bases, a direct power control (DPC) scheme for three-level PWM rectifier is presented. An optimal switching table is established, vector switching scheme and balance strategy for the neutral point potential are discussed. Variable switching frequency and dynamic process of the startup are also analyzed. Experimental results have verified the theoretical approach and the three-level PWM rectifier with proposed DPC based on virtual flux exhibits several advantages, such as simple algorithm, low costs and excellent dynamic performance. © 2014 IEEE.

Breakdown phenomena caused by electrical tree degradation in high density polyethylene under high frequency voltage

The shape change of electrical tree propagating in ice-water quenched high-density polyethylene (HDPE) film under AC voltage of different frequency ranging from 50 Hz to 90 kHz as well as the breakdown phenomena caused by the treeing degradation under high frequency condition were studied. The electrical treeing aging experiment is carried out at room temperature. The shape change of electrical tree and the arcing process during the experiment is observed via a digital micro-observing syst.m. It is found that the arcing process can be obviously observed under a high frequency voltage compared with that under low frequency voltage. It is also found that under different frequency voltages the electrical tree initiation shape is different. Most of the electrical trees are branch-shape tree under lower frequency voltage. When the frequency is higher than 5 kHz, trunk-shape tree and bosk-like tree appears. Once the frequency is higher than 50 kHz, breakdown tree can be found out. It is shown that the tree shape conversion is influenced by the frequency. The electrical tree usually has a simple shape and rarely changes under low frequency voltage in one hour or more. However, under a high frequency voltage, the electrical tree shape changes more frequently and has a large probability to breakdown. The influence of frequency on material polarization process, fatigue and thermo effect is considered as the main causes of the experiment results. The more serious destruction caused by high frequency electrical treeing degradation can well explain the reason of insulation premature inactivation in mid-frequency or high-frequency electrical equipment.

Aiming at the problem that the proportion of new energy is gradually increasing and the frequency quality is getting worse, a comprehensive control strategy for primary frequency regulation of energy storage syst.m based on fuzzy control is proposed. Firstly, the influence of energy storage virtual droop, virtual inertia and virtual negative inertia control on the frequency response of the syst.m is analyzed, and the fuzzy control is used to realize the smooth switching and complementary advantages between the control modes;Then, the feedback control strategy of SOC is designed by using logistics function, and the self-recovery control strategy of energy storage SOC is introduced to make the energy storage SOC reach the ideal state and improve the frequency modulation ability of energy storage. Finally, the simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2022 IEEE.

Purpose - A fast algorithm is proposed to calculate the lightning electromagnetic field over a perfectly conducting earth surface. Design/methodology/approach - The channel base current is approximated by a number of sub-domain quadratic functions using the proposed adaptive sampling technique, and the derivative and integral of the channel base current with respect to time can be analytically expressed. With the help of these approximations, the ideal electromagnetic field of the lightning channel can be evaluated along the lightning channel with respect to the height. Findings - The computational time can be greatly reduced using the proposed approach to evaluate the electromagnetic field of a lightning channel in the time domain. Originality/value - The adaptive sampling technique is a general-purposed approach, which can be potentially used in other applications to fit a function with the minimal number of intervals. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.

When penetration levels of renewable energy of power syst.m are increased, the proportion of thermal power units will gradually decrease. This will cause the frequency regulation capacity of the power syst.m to gradually decline. To this end, battery energy storage syst.ms are widely used to frequency regulation in the power syst.m. However, the frequency regulation ability of battery energy storage syst.m to substitute thermal power units has not yet been quantified. In this paper, it introduces two frequency regulation method models. In the proposed models, the influence of different energy storage participation degrees on the effect of frequency regulation is analyzed, and a power and energy indicators syst.m for quantifying energy storage substitution ability is proposed based on the advantages of frequency regulation with energy storage. The simulation results indicate that the ability of energy storage to substitute thermal power units is about 20-35 in terms of rapid energy supply when the installed capacity is same. © 2020 IEEE.

The implementation of non-communication protection of double circuit line syst.ms based on two independent relays has disadvantages like information shareless,complex connection and lack of economic. This paper researched the implementation of non-communication protection of double circuit line syst.ms based on one relay - the integrated protection platform. Hardware structure of the integrated protection platform is described, and software flow of non-communication protection of double circuit line syst.ms which implemented on the integrated protection platform is also described. Large number of RTDS experiments proved that, according to various asymmetrical fault and symmetrical fault, this protection scheme has reliable and sensitive action performance. It is proved that the implement non-communication protection of double circuit line syst.ms based on the intergrated protection platform is feasible. © 2011 IEEE.
