Collab.rative Metric Learning (CML) has recently emerged as a popular method in recommendation systems (RS), closing the gap between metric learning and Collab.rative Filtering. Following the convention of RS, existing methods exploit unique user representation in their model design. This paper focuses on a challenging scenario where a user has multiple categories of interests. Under this setting, we argue that the unique user representation might induce preference bias, especially when the item category distribution is imbalanced. To address this issue, we propose a novel method called Diversity-Promoting Collab.rative Metric Learning (DPCML), with the hope of considering the commonly ignored minority interest of the user. The key idea behind DPCML is to include a multiple set of representations for each user in the system. Based on this embedding paradigm, user preference toward an item is aggregated from different embeddings by taking the minimum item-user distance among the user embedding set. Furthermore, we observe that the diversity of the embeddings for the same user also plays an essential role in the model. To this end, we propose a diversity control regularization term to accommodate the multi-vector representation strategy better. Theoretically, we show that DPCML could generalize well to unseen test data by tackling the challenge of the annoying operation that comes from the minimum value. Using variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) algorithm to realize ground state energy calculation on noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices is widely applied in quantum physics, quantum chemistry, and other fields. It can simulate chemical molecules to solve the energy solution required by chemical reactions. This paper proposes an optimized cost function for the original meta-VQE and combines it with the quantum architecture search algorithm to break the limitation of the fixed structure. To expand the penalty degree of error and obtain more accurate results, two indicators are added to the original cost function including the slope error of discrete predicted value and accurate value as well as the error of the first value. The results show that the optimized algorithm can learn more characteristics of the ground state energy changing trend in the noise channel, and obtain a more accurate estimate of equilibrium bond length.

Fast adversarial training (FAT) is an efficient method to improve robustness. However, the original FAT suffers from catastrophic overfitting, which dramatically and suddenly reduces robustness after a few training epochs. Although various FAT variants have been proposed to prevent overfitting, they require high training costs. In this paper, we investigate the relationship between adversarial example quality and catastrophic overfitting by comparing the training processes of standard adversarial training and FAT. We find that catastrophic overfitting occurs when the attack success rate of adversarial examples becomes worse. Based on this observation, we propose a positive prior-guided adversarial initialization to prevent overfitting by improving adversarial example quality without extra training costs. This initialization is generated by using high-quality adversarial perturbations from the historical training process. We provide theoretical analysis for the proposed initialization and propose a prior-guided regularization method that boosts the smoothness of the loss function. Additionally, we design a prior-guided ensemble FAT method that averages the different model weights of historical models using different decay rates. Our proposed method, called FGSM-PGK, assembles the prior-guided knowledge, i.e., the prior-guided initialization and model weights, acquired during the historical training process. Engineering quantum devices requires reliable characterization of the quantum system, including qubits, quantum operations (also known as instruments) and the quantum noise. Recently, quantum gate set tomography (GST) has emerged as a powerful technique for self-consistently describing quantum states, gates, and measurements. However, non-Markovian correlations between the quantum system and environment impact the reliability of GST. To address this, we propose a self-consistent operational framework called instrument set tomography (IST) for non-Markovian GST. Based on the stochastic quantum process, the instrument set describes instruments and system-environment (SE) correlations. We introduce a linear inversion IST (LIST) to describe instruments and SE correlations without physical constraints. The disharmony of linear relationships between instruments is detected. Furthermore, we propose a physically constrained statistical method based on the maximum likelihood estimation for IST (MLE-IST) with adjustable dimensions. MLE-IST shows significant flexibility in adapting to different types of devices, such as noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices, by adjusting the model and constraints. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and necessity of simultaneously describing instruments and SE correlations. Specifically, the LIST and MLE-IST obtains significant improvement on average square error reduction in the imperfect implemented simulations by orders of -23.77 and -6.21, respectively, compared to their comparative methods. Remarkably, real-chip experiments indicate that a polynomial number of parameters with respect to the Markovian order are sufficient to characterize non-Markovian quantum noise in current NISQ devices. Consequently, IST provides an essential and self-consistent framework for characterizing, benchmarking, and developing quantum devices in terms of the instrument set. © 2023, CC BY.

In isolated Hermitian systems, the bulk-boundary correspondence is generally thought of as a compelling principle guiding the occurrence of robust edge states through the topological invariants of the bulk. However, in open non-Hermitian systems that support non-Hermitian skin effects, the universality of the bulk-boundary correspondence has so far remained disputable in spite of being subjected to intensive studies. Here we provide analytical and numerical evidence of bulk-boundary correspondences for both skin and edge modes in 1D two-band non-Hermitian systems within the framework of a prototypical non-Hermitian Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model. Two different topological winding numbers, one on a Brillouin zone and the other on a generalized Brillouin zone, are defined to fully characterize the topological phases of matter and to understand such deterministic correspondences. In addition to the exact solutions for bulk states, we also obtain explicit solution forms for edge modes along with analytical conditions for their existence and localization, all exhibiting remarkable agreement with numerical results. Our results solve the elusive non-Hermitian topology and may facilitate experimental investigations of bulk-boundary correspondence in a wide range of non-Hermitian systems.

Internet of things (IoT) technology is an essential enabler to realize ubiquitous connections and pervasive intelli-gence for the future wireless communication system. The energy self-sustainability based on the wireless power transfer technique and the coexistence with heterogeneous networks will become two predominant attributes of IoT networks. In this paper we consider the system design in a context of coexistence of a wireless powered sensor network and a cellular system, both of which share common spectrum bandwidth and are assisted by intelligent reflecting surface (IRS). Specifically, the wireless sensors exploit the harvested energy from the cellular base station (BS) to transfer information to a data sink. We aim to design a cooperation scheme via jointly optimizing the time allocation of channel use, collab.rative beamforming across networks and IRS phase-shifting control to improve the sensing network's throughput while guaranteeing the cellular users' quality of service. This design problem leads to a highly nonconvex and difficult mathematical optimization problem. Via utilizing the penalty-duality-decomposition (PDD) and successive convex approximation (SCA) methods, we have managed to develop an alternative optimization solution. Nu-merical results verify the effectiveness of our algorithm and demonstrate the benefits that come from the cooperative network design.

Connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) networks face several challenges, such as low throughput, high latency, and poor localization accuracy. These challenges severely impede the implementation of CAV networks for immersive metaverse applications and driving safety in future 6G wireless networks. To alleviate these issues, integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) is envisioned as a game-changing technology for future CAV networks. This article presents a comprehensive overview on the application of ISAC techniques in vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) networks. We cover the general system framework, representative advances, and a detailed case study on using the 5G New Radio (NR) waveform for sensing-assisted communications in V2I networks.
