Motivated by the multi-channel nature of the Gabor feature representation and the success of the multiple classifier fusion, and meanwhile, to avoid careful selection of parameters for the manifold learning, we propose a face recognition framework under the multi-channel fusion strategy. The Gabor wavelet endows the algorithm in a similar way as the human visual system, to represent face features. To solve the curse of dimensionality due to multi-channel Gabor feature, as well as to preserve nonlinear lab.led intrinsic structure of the sample points, the manifold learning is applied to model the nonlinear lab.led intrinsic structure. Each of the filtered multi-channel Gabor features, is treated as an independent channel. Classification is performed in each channel by the component classifier and the final result is obtained using the decision fusion strategy. The experiments on three face datasets show effective and encouraging recognition accuracy compared with other existing methods. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Sponsored search advertising (SSA), the primary revenue source of Web search engine companies, has become the dominant form of online advertising. Search engine companies, such as Google and Baidu, are naturally interested in SSA mechanism design with the aim to improve the overall effectiveness and profitability of SSA ecosystems. Due to model intractability, however, traditional game theory and mechanism design frameworks provide only limited help as to the design and evaluation of practical SSA mechanisms. In this paper, we propose a niche-based co-evolutionary simulation approach, aiming at computationally evaluating SSA auction mechanisms based on advertisers' equilibrium bidding behavior generated through co-evolution of their bidding strategies. Using this approach, we evaluate and compare key performance measures of several practical SSA auction mechanisms, including the generalized first and second price auction, the Vickrey-Clarke-Groves mechanism, and a novel hybrid mechanism adopted by ***, a major search engine in China. Budget-related decisions in search auctions are recognized as a structured decision problem, rather than a simple constraint. Budget planning over several coupled campaigns remains a challenging but utterly important task in search advertisements. In this paper, we propose a multi-campaign budget plan- ning approach using optimal control techniques, with consideration of the substitute relationship between advertising campaigns. A measure of coupled relationships between campaigns is presented, e.g., the over- lapping degree (O) in terms of campaign contents, promotional periods and target regions. We also discuss some desirable properties of our model and possible solutions. Furthermore, computational experiments are conducted to evaluate our model and identified properties, with real-world data collected from logs and reports of practical campaigns. Experimental results show that, (a) coupled campaigns with higher over- lapping degrees can reduce the optimal budget level and the optimal revenue, and also arrive the budgeting cap earlier;(b) The advertising effort could be seriously weakened when ignoring the overlapping degree between campaigns.

In the first step, the sensing system is moved along a line, the orientations in the relative pose are computed from at least five corresponding points in the two images captured before and after the movement. In the second step, the translation parameters in the relative pose are obtained with at least two corresponding points in the two images captured before and after one step motion. Experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, a k-nearest neighbor locally weighted regression method (k-LWR) is proposed to forecast the short-term traffic flow. Inspired by k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) method, the traffic flows which have the same clock time with the current traffic flow are viewed as neighbors. The traffic flows which have the same clock time with the predicted traffic flow are viewed as the outputs of the neighbors. The neighbors most similar to the current traffic flow are viewed as nearest neighbors. It is observed that each nearest neighbor has different similarity with the current traffic flow, and the similarity is relevant to the contribution of the nearest neighbor's output to predicted traffic flow. The greater the similarity is, the greater the contribution is. These contributions of the nearest neighbors' outputs are obtained by the locally weighted regression (LWR) method. In this way, k-LWR uses less data, but uses it more effectively. We use the root mean square error (RMSE) between the actual traffic flow and the predicted traffic flow as the measurement. The proposed method is tested on the actual data from Xingye intersection and Feihu intersection in Jiangsu Province in China. The experimental results show that k-LWR has 20% and 24% improvement over the pattern recognition algorithm (PRA), 26% and 30% improvement over k-NN, for the two intersections, respectively.
