Social Media Based Transportation Research: the state of the Work and the Networking

Recently, there has been an increased interest in the use of social media data as important traffic information sources. In this paper, we review social media based transportation research with social network analysis *** summarize main research topics in this field, and report collab.ration patterns at levels of researchers, institutions, and countries, respectively. Parallel control for Optimal Tracking via Adaptive Dynamic Programming

This paper studies the problem of optimal parallel tracking control for continuous-time general nonlinear *** existing optimal state feedback control,the control input of the optimal parallel control is introduced into the feedback ***,due to the introduction of control input into the feedback system,the optimal state feedback control methods can not be applied *** address this problem,an augmented system and an augmented performance index function are proposed ***,the general nonlinear system is transformed into an affine nonlinear *** difference between the optimal parallel control and the optimal state feedback control is analyzed *** is proven that the optimal parallel control with the augmented performance index function can be seen as the suboptimal state feedback control with the traditional performance index ***,an adaptive dynamic programming(ADP)technique is utilized to implement the optimal parallel tracking control using a critic neural network(NN)to approximate the value function *** stability analysis of the closed-loop system is performed using the Lyapunov theory,and the tracking error and NN weights errors are uniformly ultimately bounded(UUB).Also,the optimal parallel controller guarantees the continuity of the control input under the circumstance that there are finite jump discontinuities in the reference ***,the effectiveness of the developed optimal parallel control method is verified in two cases.

The emerging development of connected and automated vehicles imposes a significant challenge on current vehicle control and transportation systems. This paper proposes a novel unified approach, Parallel Driving, a cloud-based cyberphysical-social systems(CPSS) framework aiming at synergizing connected automated driving. This study first introduces the CPSS and ACP-based intelligent machine systems. Then the parallel driving is proposed in the cyber-physical-social space,considering interactions among vehicles, human drivers, and information. Within the framework, parallel testing, parallel learning and parallel reinforcement learning are developed and concisely reviewed. Development on intelligent horizon(iHorizon)and its applications are also presented towards parallel *** proposed parallel driving offers an ample solution for achieving a smooth, safe and efficient cooperation among connected automated vehicles with different levels of automation in future road transportation systems.

Vehicle Detection Based on the AND-OR Graph for Congested Traffic Conditions

In urban traffic video monitoring systems, traffic congestion is a common scene that causes vehicle occlusion and is a challenge for current vehicle detection methods. To solve the occlusion problem in congested traffic conditions, we have proposed an effective vehicle detection approach based on an AND-OR graph (AOG) in this paper. Our method includes three steps: constructing an AOG for representing vehicle objects in the congested traffic condition;training parameters in the AOG;and, finally, detecting vehicles using bottom-up inference. In AOG construction, sophisticated vehicle feature selection avoids using the easily occluded vehicle components but takes highly visible components into account. The vehicles are well represented by these selected vehicle features in the presence of a congested condition with serious vehicle occlusion. Furthermore, a hierarchical decomposition of the vehicle representation is proposed during AOG construction to further reduce the impact of vehicle occlusion. After AOG construction, all parameters in the AOG are manually learned from the training images or set and further applied to the bottom-up vehicle inference. There are two innovations of our method, i.e., the usage of the AOG in vehicle detection under congested traffic conditions and the special vehicle feature selection for vehicle representation. To fully test our method, we have done a quantitative experiment under a variety of traffic conditions, a contrast experiment, and several experiments on congested conditions. The experimental results illustrate that our method can effectively deal with various vehicle poses, vehicle shapes, and time-of-day and weather conditions. In particular, our approach performs well in congested traffic conditions with serious vehicle occlusion.

Seeking Consensus in Networks of Linear Agents: Communication Noises and Markovian Switching Topologies

The stochastic consensus problem of linear multi-input multi-output (MIMO) multi-agent systems (MASs) with communication noises and Markovian switching topologies is studied in this technical note. The agent's full state is first estimated by the state observer, and then the estimated state is exchanged with neighbor agents through a noisy communication environment. The communication topology is randomly switching and the switching law is described by a continuous-time Markovian chain. Then a consensus protocol is proposed for this MAS, and some sufficient conditions are obtained for ensuring the mean square and almost sure consensus. In addition, if the communication topology is fixed, some necessary and sufficient conditions for the mean square consensus can be obtained according to whether or not each agent in the system has parents.

Interactive image segmentation which needs the user to give certain hard constraints has shown promising performance for object segmentation. In this paper, we consider characters in text image as a special kind of object, and propose an adaptive graph cut based text binarization method to segment text from background. The main contributions of the paper lie in: 1) in order to make the binarization local adaptive with uneven background, the text region image is firstly roughly split into several sub-images on which graph cut is applied, and 2) considering the unique characteristics of the text, we propose to automatically classify some pixels as text or background with high confidence, severed as hard constraints seeds for graph cut to extract text from background by spreading the seeds into the whole sub-image. The experimental results show that our approach could get better performance in both character extraction accuracy and recognition accuracy. © 2012 IEEE.

Detecting text in video or natural scene image is quite challenging due to the complex background, various fonts and illumination conditions. The preprocessing period, which suppresses the nontext areas so as to highlight the text areas, is the basis for further text detection. In this paper, a novel graph-based background suppression method for scene text detection is proposed. Considering each pixel as a node in the graph, our approach incorporates pixel-level and context-level features into a graph. Various factors contribute to the unary and pair wise cost function which is optimized via max-flow/min-cut algorithm [16] to get a binary image whose nontext pixels are suppressed so that text pixels are highlighted. Furthermore, the proposed background suppression method could be easily combined with other detection methods to improve the performance. Experimental results on ICDAR 2011 competition dataset show promising performance. © 2012 IEEE.

In this paper, we proposed an architecture of a hierarchical networked urban traffic signal control system Based on Multi-agent. With mobile agent technology, traffic control strategies are designed as traffic control agents, which can move from device to device in a network. The system can reconfigure and replace these agents according to inconstant states of traffic environment and performances of agents. By this way, demand-based control is realized in traffic signal control system. Then we described the details and key technologies in the procession of agent-generation, agent-storage and agent-usage. At last, a prototype of the system is developed and basic functions of this system are tested by simulations. These simulations also confirm extensibility and effectiveness of the system. © 2012 IEEE.

Chemical industry is complex and continuous process industry, and the control and management of the long-term safe operation involves a great deal of information and data on the staffs, management, equipment and technology. Consequently, making real-time assessment for the control and management by computational experiment is important for the long-term of safety operation of chemical industry. As the requirement for high-performance computing in large-scale complex systems, traditional CPU computing can not meet the needs of large-scale computing. Because of the high speed and rapid development features, GPU was widely applied to scientific computation, which is suitable for large-scale intensive computation. This paper carried on specific computation experiments using GPU parallel computing, and designed and analyzed matrix inversion, fuzzy logic computation and Monte Carlo computation respectively for staff management and equipment simulation. Finally, compared to CPU serial computing, the maximum speedup ratio, 34, 85 and 39 times of speedup ratio are achieved. © 2011 IEEE.
