A Kind of Novel ITS Based on Space-Air-Ground Big-Data

Based on the big-data collected from Space-Air-Ground, i.e. Space means satellite, Air means helicopter, the key technologies of novel ITS (intelligent Transportation System) are investigated, including data acquisition sensor, dynamic data transmission, massive data storage, multi-source data fusion, massive data mining and analysis, etc. On this basis, the cloud computing platform of novel ITS is designed, including Space-Air-Ground bigdata acquisition & transmission subsystem, cloud computing platform, intelligent transportation application & service subsystem. With the help of the data visualization, data prediction, and decision making, the complete traffic big-data set including people (passenger, driver), vehicle, and road traffic environment, can create their core added-values. The applications of novel ITS include: providing transportation data services for traffic enterprise and business users, such as customized mining, and specific industry analysis;providing accurate transportation information services for the citizen;providing business model for all levels of users, such as data visualization and customized services.

Nowadays, urban parking circumstances are becoming more and more challenging. To solve this problem, many methods have been proposed, such as infrastructure expansion, economic leverage and technical theory. However, these solutions are generally used independently, thus it is infeasible to solve all existing problems. Therefore, a novel and revolutionary solution is urgently required. In this paper, we first comprehensively investigate the background of parking difficulties, and find that all of the current existing solutions are not able to meet the requirements of dynamic, systematization, high efficiency and accuracy. Then we briefly introduce the parallel theory, and propose the intelligent parking system based on the parallel theory, which can provide a systematic intelligent solution to meet the needs of current parking systems. The parallel parking system is made up of three parts, including the artificial system, the computational experiments, and the parallel execution. The proposed parallel parking system not only provides a novel direction to solve the parking problem, but also is an important guidance for the specific implementation of parallel parking theory.

An optimized relaying method for multi-antennas cooperative networks, estimate-and-forward (EF) strategy for MIMO relay, is proposed and analyzed in this paper. According to our theoretical analysis, it performs like amplify-and-forward (AF) for the low signal noise ratio (SNR) region and behaves like detect-and-forward (DF) for the high SNR region. For the relay networks with a large number of antennas and/or high order constellations, two approximate methods are proposed to reduce the complexity of the signal estimation at the relay. The first one uses a list sphere decoder to generate an estimate list and to obtain the approximate minimum mean squared error (MMSE) estimate based on the reduced list. The proposed list EF retains the advantages of the exact EF relay strategy in large MIMO relay networks at a negligible performance loss. The second algorithm computes the estimate of the symbols using Gaussian approximation to approximate the summation to be integral. We find the proposed EF scheme performs better than both AF and DF across all SNRs without switching algorithms for different SNRs.

In this article, I would like to share my daughter's experience on self-STEAM education. In our daily life, she can always find problems and then dream them with her imagination, finally narrows down her solutions to solve problems in her own way. During these problem-solving processes, I noticed that she went through sciences, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics in a very natural way. So I would like to say, STEAM is the way we learn and grow ever since we were born. But later at school, we are trained in a way that subjects are completely disconnected. It might take time to change this situation at school, but at home, as parents, we need to realize that children can discover new things by themselves even from young ages, and provide rich learning environment for them and let them “STEAM” themselves in their own way.

Internet inquiry is playing an increasingly important role as the complement of the traditional medical service system, especially the similar cases recommendation. It can not only save the patients' waiting time, but also make use of the historical resources, for many cases with the same purpose have been solved perfectly. However, because of the diversity and non-standard of the patients' descriptions, the inquiry platform cannot find the cases with similar semantic easily. Most traditional retrieval methods require the overlap of two sentences, and this is not suitable with the diversity and non-standard descriptions. In this paper, we try to utilize the sentences' semantic representation in a continuous space to understand the cases, and then recommend the similar cases. We also incorporate it into query likelihood language models, trying to get better results. Our experimental data are all collected from a real internet inquiry platform, and the results show that our methods significantly outperform the state-of-the-art translation based methods for similar cases recommendation.

Real Time Bidding (RTB) is an emerging business model and a popular research topic of online advertising markets. Using cookie-based big-data analysis, RTB advertising platforms have the ability to precisely identify the features and preferences of online users, segment them into various kinds of niche markets, and thus achieve the precision marketing via delivering advertisements to the best-matched users. The segmentation granularity used by such platforms, typically referred to as the Demand Side Platforms (DSPs), plays a central role in the effectiveness and efficiency of the RTB ecosystem. In practice, fine-grained user segmentations may lead to increased value-per-clicks and bid prices from advertisers, but at the same time reduced competition and possibly decreased bid prices in each niche market. This motivates our research on the optimal segmentation granularity to solve this dilemma faced by DSPs. Using a RTB market model with two-stage resales, we analyzed DSPs' segmentation strategies taking the revenues of both advertisers and DSPs into consideration. We also validated our proposed model and analysis using the computational experiment approach, and the experimental results indicate that with the increasing of segmentation granularity, the weighted sum of the DSP and advertisers' revenues tends to first rise and then decline in all weight-value cases, and the optimal granularity is greatly influenced by the value of weights. Our work highlights the need for DSPs of moderately using, instead of overusing, the online big data for maximized revenues.

Real Time Bidding (RTB) is a novel business model of online computational advertising with the integration of Internet economy and big data analysis. It can help advertisers achieve the precision marketing through the market segmentation strategies of Demand Side Platforms (DSPs). Based on a mathematical programming approach, this paper studied DSPs' strategies for market segmentation, and established a selection model of the granularity for segmenting RTB advertising markets. We proposed to validate our model using the computational experiment approach, and the experimental results show that: 1) with the increasing refinement of the market segmentation granularity, the total revenue has a tendency of a rise first followed by a decline;2) the optimal granularity of market segmentation will be significantly influenced by the number of advertisers on the DSP, but less influenced by the number of ad requests. Our findings show the crucial role of market segmentation on the RTB advertising effect, and indicate that the DSPs should adjust their market segmentation strategies according to their total number of advertisers. Our findings also highlight the importance of advertisers as well as the characteristics of the target audiences in DSPs' market segmentation decisions.
