Domain adaptation has become an important topic because the trained neural networks from the source domain generally perform poorly in the target domain due to domain shifts, especially for medical image analysis. Previous DA methods mainly focus on disentangling domain features. However, it is based on feature independence, which often can not be guaranteed in reality. In this work, we present a new DA approach called Dimension-based Disentangled Dilated Domain Adaptation (D 4 A) to disentangle the storage locations between the features to tackle the problem of domain shift for medical image segmentation tasks without the annotations of the target domain. We use Adaptive Instance Normalization (AdaIN) to encourage the content information to be stored in the spatial dimension, and the style information to be stored in the channel dimension. In addition, we apply dilated convolution to preserve anatomical information avoiding the loss of information due to downsampling. We validate the proposed method for cross-modality medical image segmentation tasks on two public datasets, and the comparison experiments and ablation studies demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, which outperforms the state-of-the-art methods.

We developed and validated a deep learning system (termed DeepDR Plus) in a diverse, multiethnic, multi-country dataset to predict personalized risk and time to progression of diabetic retinopathy. We show that DeepDR Plus can be integrated into the clinical workflow to promote individualized intervention strategies for the management of diabetic retinopathy.

Practical fractional-order variable-gain super-twisting control with application to wafer stages of photolithography systems

In this paper, a practical fractional-order variable-gain super-twisting algorithm (PFVSTA) is proposed to improve the tracking performance of wafer stages for semiconductor manufacturing. Based on the sliding mode control (SMC), the proposed PFVSTA enhances the tracking performance from three aspects: 1) alleviating the chattering phenomenon via super-twisting algorithm and a novel fractional-order sliding surface (FSS) design, 2) improving the dynamics of states on the sliding surface with fast response and small overshoots via the designed novel FSS and 3) compensating for disturbances via variable-gain control law. Based on practical conditions, this paper analyzes the stability of the controller and illustrates the theoretical principle to compensate for the uncertainties caused by accelerations. Moreover, numerical simulations prove the effectiveness of the proposed sliding surface and control scheme, and they are in agreement with the theoretical analysis. Finally, practice-based comparative experiments are conducted. The results show that the proposed PFVSTA can achieve much better tracking performance than the conventional methods from various perspectives. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The Drosophila larva, a soft-body animal, can bend its body and roll efficiently to escape danger. However, contrary to common belief, this rolling motion is not driven by the imbalance of gravity and ground reaction forces. Through functional imaging and ablation experiments, we demonstrate that the sequential actuation of axial muscles within an appropriate range of angles is critical for generating rolling. We model the interplay between muscle contraction, hydrostatic skeleton deformation, and body-environment interactions, and systematically explain how sequential muscle actuation generates the rolling motion. Additionally, we construct a pneumatic soft robot to mimic the larval rolling strategy, successfully validating our model. This mechanics model of soft-body rolling motion not only advances the study of related neural circuits, but also holds potential for applications in soft robotics.

Water pollution is always the worldwide key problem. For the problem of complex, frequent and dangerous water sampling and monitoring missions in the various water areas, this paper designs an autonomous water sampling system based on the unmanned surface vehicle (USV), and it introduces the experimental application of the water sampling system. According to the water sampling missions, the ground station sets up the desired water sampling position, and then, the USV goes fleetly to the target position carrying the autonomous water sampling equipment to complete the mission by water sampling and control modules. This autonomous water sampling system based on the USV can long-periodic execute water sampling and monitoring missions precisely, safely and effectively. © 2021 IEEE.

Pakistan faces severe air pollution and high dependency on imported fossil fuels for transportation, urgently needing solutions. Electrification of transportation could address these issues, but Pakistan lacks a clear roadmap for adopting electric vehicles. This paper examines the electrification of transportation in Pakistan, focusing on policies, technical aspects, and standards. It looks at best practices from developed countries and discusses incentives offered by the Pakistani government to boost electric vehicle adoption. The study also explores challenges and opportunities in adopting electric vehicles within existing power systems. A SWOT analysis is included, highlighting strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to electric vehicle policies and market integration in Pakistan. By reviewing these factors, the paper provides insights into the obstacles and potential benefits of electric vehicle adoption. It also suggests ways for developing nations like Pakistan to encourage widespread use of electric vehicles, aiming to reduce fossil fuel dependency and meet environmental goals. © 2024

In order to evaluate the impact of wind farm and photovoltaic (PV) power station on the operation risk of output transformer, the joint probability density distribution of wind power and load, PV and load as well as wind power, PV and load are established by Copula theory. Based on Susa model, the probability density distribution of characteristic temperature of transformers is derived. For the assessment of the operational risk of transformer, this paper constructs IDP, IFP, ELOIL indexes. Finally, a sending grid with renewable energy base is taken as an example. of which the relevant risk assessment indexes are analysed to verify the accuracy of the proposed method. Moreover, the results can provide guidance for the selection and operation of transformers. © 2021 SPIE.
