Phase retrieval problem is an nonlinear inverse problem of recovering real- or complex-valued signal from quadratic measurements, which arises in various applications. The best-known algorithms for solving this problem are non-convex methods starting with spectral initializers that provide an initial point within a local basin sufficiently close to the target signal. This paper introduces a simple method, called weighted null vector initialization (WNI), which can be used to compute accurate initialization vectors for solving non-convex phase retrieval. The introduced WNI method is more robust against measurement noise and outperforms the best spectral initializer, and null initializer. Simulation results are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Soft error is a major reliability concern in advanced technology nodes. Although mitigating Soft Error Rate (SER) will inevitably sacrifice area and power, few studies paid attention to optimization methods to explore trade-offs between area, power and SER. This paper proposes an optimization framework based on Bayesian approach for soft-error-tolerant circuit design. It comprises two steps:1) data preprocessing and 2) Bayesian optimization. In the preprocessing step, a strategy incorporating k-means algorithm and a novel sequencing algorithm is used to cluster Flip-Flops (FFs) with similar SER in order to reduce the dimensionality for the subsequent step. Bayesian Neural Network (BNN) is the applied surrogate model for acquiring the posterior distribution of three design metrics, while the Lower confidence bound (LCB) functions are employed as acquisition functions to select the next point based on BNN when optimizing. Finally, the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) is used to search the Pareto Optimal Front (POF) solutions of three LCB functions. Experimental results demonstrate the proposed framework has a 1.4x improvement in accuracy and a 70% reduction in SER with acceptable increases in power and area.

Classification and recognition of radar signals is an important part of modern warfare. Traditional radar signal recognition method based on the pulse description word may be not suitable for the complex electromagnetic environment. In this paper, a novel radar signal recognition method based on Squeeze-and-Excitation networks is proposed. Firstly, time-domain, frequency-domain and time-frequency-domain features of five kinds of radar signals are transformed into images. Then the images are classified by convolutional neural networks and output the result of each domain. Finally, the results of the three domains are combined to obtain the correct identification results. And the recognition effects of three different modules are compared. The experiments prove the efficiency of our method, especially on different SNR condition and center frequency. And confusion matrixes demonstrate that under the low SNR condition, our method still has a good recognition effect and are better than traditional radar signal recognition method based on PDW. © 2019 IEEE.

In the pursuit of accurate lunar soil volatile exploration, in-situ deep space sampling analysis offers unparalleled preservation of sample integrity. A critical challenge lies in ensuring a secure sealing environment. This paper introduces an innovative sealing method utilising a ceramic blade to compress a non-metallic seal. Initially, following a comprehensive multidimensional evaluation of sealing configurations, the ceramic knife-edge compression non-metallic sealing ring solution was determined to be optimal. This approach involves positioning the sealing ring within a grooved cylindrical heating furnace body, where radial compression is achieved through an annular ceramic knife-edge interface, thereby ensuring hermetic integrity. Subsequently, a sealing leakage model grounded in Roth theory was developed to elucidate micro-leakage mechanisms. ANSYS simulation software was utilised to investigate the influence of blade tip radius and temperature, revealing correlations with average stress and contact width, as well as the impact of temperature extremes on sealing efficacy. These findings provided the theoretical underpinning for subsequent ground tests. A dedicated test platform was established, adhering to the industry standard QJ3089A-2018, to evaluate the sealing performance of various seal and blade tip radius combinations under diverse conditions. Results indicated that, under a force of 500N, PTFE seals compressed by an R0.5mm blade and PVMQ seals compressed by an R0.6mm blade achieved leakage rates on the order of 10 -8 Pa·m 3 ·s -1 , aligning with theoretical predictions and demonstrating repeatable sealing capability. This study presents a novel and reliable sealing solution for the precise exploration of lunar soil volatiles, offering a technical breakthrough and robust sealing strategy for future deep space missions.

Angle-of-arrival (AOA) target localization using the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has been widely applied in many practical applications. To localize an invasive target quickly and accurately, both the estimation and UAV path optimization algorithms are required. This paper focuses on developing a path optimization method to improve the target estimation performance. Firstly, the problem formulation of AOA target localization is introduced. Secondly, the classical pseudolinear Kalman filter (PLKF) and the gradient-based path optimization are presented. Thirdly, we analyze the problems that existed in the previous methods and propose an improved gradient-descent path optimization algorithm combined with a simple grid search method. Finally, the simulation examples verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Docker has been widely adopted in production environment, but unfortunately deployment and cold-start of container are limited by the low speed of disk. The emerging non-volatile memory (NVM) technology, which has high speed and can store data permanently, brings a new chance to accelerate the deployment and cold-start of container. However, it is expensive to replace the whole hard disk driver (HDD) with NVM. To achieve the fastest deployment and cold-start with lowest cost, we conduct in-depth analysis on the Top-134 images in Docker Hub and obtain two main insights as: (1) the storing latency of layered image has become the bottleneck of container deployment;(2) only a few image layers are required for container cold-start. Based on these two findings, we propose a NVM-HDD hybrid docker storage framework as N-Docker. It can effectively accelerate container cold-start by detecting the bottleneck layers as well as cold-start required layers and storing them into NVM for faster container startup with limited NVM capacity. Experimental results show that N-Docker can accelerate the container deployment by 1.21X and cold-start by 2.96X. Compared to NVM-Docker, which stores all images into NVM, N-Docker achieves the same performance improvements while reducing the usage of NVM by 88.22%. © 2019, IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

Wave propagation and diffusion in linear materials preserve local reciprocity in terms of a symmetric Green's function. For wave propagations, the relation between the fields entering and leaving a system is more relevant than the detailed information about the fields inside it. In such cases, the global reciprocity of the scattering off a system through several ports is more important, which is defined as the symmetric transmission between the scattering channels. When a two-port system supports nonreciprocal (electromagnetic, acoustic) wave propagation, it is a (optical, phonon) diode directly following the definition. However, to date no concrete definition or discussion has been made on the global reciprocity of diffusive processes through a multiple-port system. It thus remains unclear what are the differences and relations between the three concepts, namely, local nonreciprocity, global nonreciprocity, and diode effect in diffusion. Here, we provide theoretical analysis on the frequency-domain Green's function and define the global reciprocity of heat diffusion through a two-port system, which has a different setup from that of a thermal diode. We further prove the equivalence between a heat transfer system with broken steady-state global reciprocity and a thermal diode, assuming no temperature-dependent heat generation. The validities of some typical mechanisms in breaking the diffusive reciprocity and making a thermal diode have been discussed. Our results set a general background for future studies on symmetric and asymmetric diffusive processes.

In this paper, a novel polarization monopulse forward-looking imaging algorithm is proposed, the core idea is solving the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) problem by bayesian adaptive direct search (BADS) optimization. The simulation results show that unresolved targets can be resolved and relocated accurately in the real beam imaging result and the imaging performance is greatly improved. The comparison with gradient descent also validates its superiority in terms of accuracy and robustness of direction of arrival (DOA) and polarization parameters estimation. Meanwhile, the proposed algorithm can accurately identify three targets within a beam, including a dihedral and two trihedral targets. © 2019 IEEE.

Structural health monitoring (SHM) has been increasingly investigated for decades. Different physical principles have been developed for damage identification, such as electronics, mechanics, magnetics, etc., with different coverage (i.e., global, large-area, and local monitoring) and sensitivity. Mechanical acousto-ultrasonic-based methods have formed a big family in SHM technologies. Multiple wave/resonance modes have been utilized for versatile SHM tasks. The permanently integrated sensing networks play a significant role in achieving a cost-effective and reliable SHM system, with major concerns including weight increase for large-scale deployment and conformity for complex geometry structures. In this review, typical acousto-ultrasonic sensors made of different material systems are discussed, along with advantages and limitations. Moreover, advanced network installation methods have been introduced, including surface-mounting with pre-integrated networks on substrates and in situ printing, and embedding with composite layup and metal additive manufacturing. Sensor versatility and usage in multi-scale SHM techniques are then highlighted. Different wave/resonance modes are transmitted and received with corresponding elements and network designs. In conclusion, this systematic review mainly covers a collection of acousto-ultrasonic sensors, two modalities of network installation, and their employment with various SHM methods, hopefully providing a useful guide to building lightweight and conformal networks with passive or active-passive sensors, and developing complete and reliable SHM strategies by integrating different damage identification methods on multiple scales.

Monocular depth estimation is to perform pixel-level depth estimation on single perspective image, and the methods based on deep learning have shown superior effect for the challenging task. However, the supervised depth estimation methods need costly ground truth lab.ls, which require professional equipment. To solve this problem, we study the unsupervised monocular depth estimation algorithm combining traditional stereo knowledge. We use the unsupervised network based on the reconstruction method as the baseline, which can be trained without direct supervision from ground truth depths leveraging image synthesis on sequences or multi-views images, so that it can improve the accuracy of prediction results without applying any annotations such as LIDAR depth in KITTI. Experiments results on the publicly database KITTI (Eigen split) have shown the promising effectiveness of the proposed method, and compared with state of the art unsupervised algorithms, it has achieved competitive performance in objective evaluation indicators. © 2019 IEEE.
