Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) constitutes an essential and promising paradigm that relies programmable wireless environment and provides capability for space-intensive communications, due to the use of low-cost massive reflecting elements over the entire surfaces of man-made structures. However, accurate channel estimation is a fundamental technical prerequisite to achieve the huge performance gains from RIS. By leveraging the low rank structure of RIS channels, three practical residual neural networks, named convolutional blind denoising network, convolutional denoising generative adversarial networks and multiple residual dense network, are proposed to obtain accurate channel state information, which can reflect the impact of different methods on the estimation performance. Simulation results reveal the evolution direction of these three methods and reveal their superior performance compared with existing benchmark schemes. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. In this paper, a supplementary damping control scheme for static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) is proposed to stabilize the oscillation caused by subsynchronous control interactions (SSCI) phenomenon in a series-compensated doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) based wind farm. Various system conditions determine the oscillation frequency, which is usually different for different SSCI events. Therefore, it is a great challenge to design an efficient and reliable damping controller to stabilize the SSCI. A damping controller based on combination of filters, gain, and phase-shifts is designed for STATCOM controller. With the proposed scheme, the STATCOM is able to provide positive damping for a wide range of system conditions, and thus covering a wide band of oscillation frequencies. The performance of the proposed scheme is validated on an aggregated model of an actual wind power system using Simulink environment. The time-domain simulations have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed scheme for mitigating the SSCI at various oscillation frequencies. © 2019 IEEE.

The topological edge state (TES) in a one-dimensional optical lattice has exhibited robust field localization or waveguiding against the structural perturbations that would give rise to fault-tolerant photonic integrations. However, the zero mode as a kind of TES usually deviates from the exact zero-energy state in a finite Hermitian lattice due to the coupling between these edge states, which inevitably weaken the topological protection. Here, we first show such a breakup of zero modes in finite Su-Schriffer-Heeger optical lattices and then reveal their recovery by introducing non-Hermitian degeneracies with parity-time (PT) symmetry. We carry out experiments in a finite silicon waveguide lattice, where a passive-PT symmetry was implemented with carefully controlled lossy silicon waveguides. The experimental results are fully compatible with the theoretical prediction. Our results show that the topological property of an open system can be tuned by non-Hermitian lattice engineering, which offers a route to enhance the topological protection in a finite system.

Advanced technologies that can establish intimate, long-lived functional interfaces with neural systems have attracted increasing interest due to their wide-ranging applications in neuroscience, bioelectronic medicine, and the associated treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. A critical challenge of significance remains in the development of electronic platforms that offer conformal contact with soft brain tissue for the sensing or stimulation of brain activities and chronically stable operation in vivo, at scales that range from cellular-level resolution to macroscopic areas. This review summarizes recent advances in this field, with an emphasis on the use of demonstrated concepts, constituent materials, engineered designs, and system integration to address the current challenges. The article begins with an overview of recent bioelectronic platforms with unique form factors, ranging from filamentary probes to conformal sheets and three-dimensional frameworks for alleviating the mechanical mismatch between interface materials and neural tissues. Next, active interfaces which utilize inorganic/organic semiconductor-enabled devices are reviewed, highlighting various working principles of recording mechanisms including capacitively and conductively coupled sensing enabled by high transistor matrices at high spatiotemporal resolution. The subsequent section presents approaches to biological integration which use active materials for multiplexed addressing, local amplification and multimodal operation with high-channel-count and large-scale electronic systems in a safe fashion that provides multi-decade stable performance in both animal models and human subjects. The advances summarized in this review will guide the future direction of this technology and provide a basis for next-generation chronic neural interfaces with long-lived high-performance operation. © 2023 The Authors. Interpretable disentanglement of neural networks by extracting class-specific subnetwork

We propose a novel perspective to understand deep neural networks in an interpretable disentanglement form. For each semantic class, we extract a class-specific functional subnetwork from the original full model, with compressed structure while maintaining comparable prediction performance. The structure representations of extracted subnetworks display a resemblance to their corresponding class semantic similarities. We also apply extracted subnetworks in visual explanation and adversarial example detection tasks by merely replacing the original full model with class-specific subnetworks. Experiments demonstrate that this intuitive operation can effectively improve explanation saliency accuracy for gradient-based explanation methods, and increase the detection rate for confidence score-based adversarial example detection methods. Sub-Nyquist sampling is a common means of interfering with inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) imaging, which has been validated for the feasibility of sub-Nyquist sampling jamming against ISAR imaging in down range domain. In order to generate more false target images, taking sub-Nyquit sampling in both domains to get false target image array is proposed in this framework. The jamming signals, which are formed by the intercepted radar signals under the sub-Nyquist sampling theorem and scattered by moving targets, are collected by ISAR to obtain final images show that the deceptive false-target images retaining the real target information will be induced. Simulated trails and real data of a Yak-42 plane are used to validate the correctness of the analyses and the finally well-focused false-target images greatly support the effectiveness of the sub-Nyquist sampling idea in the countermeasures of ISAR. © 2018 IEEE.

Current leads are the major heat leakage source in superconducting devices and largely affect the efficiency of the superconducting system operation. Peltier current lead (PCL), a combination of thermoelectric material (BiTe) with the conventional copper lead in the room-temperature end, is effective to reduce heat leakage. Due to the Peltier effect, the thermoelectric material can pump out the heat from the low temperature side to the room temperature side. In this paper we propose PCLs with constant and varying cross sections and simulated the heat leakage on PCLs by using COMSOL simulations. The simulated results show that the PCL with varying cross section can reducing heat leakage of 10% which compares to the constant cross sections. © 2018 IEEE.

In order to improve the equipment utilization of distributed photovoltaic power generation system, the harmonic and reactive currents generated by grid-connected photovoltaic system can be accurately detected and compensated. A phase-locked loop based on second-order generalized integrator (SOGI-PLL) is introduced into the traditional FBD current detection method to separate the positive and negative sequence components of unbalanced voltage and detect the phase and frequency of reference voltage more accurately. The simulation results show that the algorithm can reduce the computational complexity and increase the detection accuracy and steady-state performance.

With the scarcity of fossil energy, the development of renewable energy is becoming more and more rapid. However, when new energy is integrated into the power grid, the inertia of the system is reduced and the stability of the system is lowered. This also poses a new challenge to frequency control, and energy storage as a technology that can quickly respond to system frequency changes is now widely concerned. This paper summarizes the domestic and international research status of energy storage and AGG capacity allocation and coordinated control through the influence of renewable energy on AGC. Finally, the development prospects of energy storage and participation in new energy integration into the power grid are prospected.

The high temperature superconducting (HTS) cable is expected to become the next generation of power transmission line with its large capacity, compact structure and low loss. Polypropylene laminated paper (PPLP) has been widely used as insulation material for cold dielectric (CD) HTS cable due to its excellent dielectric properties. In this paper, cryogenic insulation characteristics of PPLP has been researched. DC, AC and lightning impulse breakdown strength of mini-model cable had been investigated according to three-parameter Weibull distribution based on grey model (GM). © 2018 IEEE.
