This paper presents a dual-carrier orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (DC-OFDM) based ultrawideband (UWB) PHY (RF front-end plus baseband processor) which is compliant with C-WPAN UWB standard. The proposed UWB PHY supports data rates from 53.2 to 480 Mbps, and demonstrates a packet-error-rate (PER) of 8% under multi-path fading, including CM1, CM2, and CM4 channel modes, additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), and up to 50 ppm carrier frequency offset (CFO) and sampling frequency offset (SFO). It consists of a radio-frequency (RF) transceiver operating in the frequency band group 2 (6204-8844MHz), a 6-bit folding and interpolating analog-to-digital convertors (ADC), a 8-bit current-steering digital-to-analog convertor (DAC) and a digital baseband processor. The front-end circuits have been fabricated using 0.13μm CMOS technology. The digital baseband processor has been implemented on a Xilinx Vertex-5 FPGA platform. © 2010 IEEE.

Immune clone selection algorithm (ICSA) and the multi-user detection based on ICSA are studied. Similar to evolutionary algorithms, ICSA is an efficient tool in searching for the global optimum based on the representation of solutions as binary code. It shows better potential capability to solve the optimization problem than evolution algorithm. Two novel multi-user detectors are presented which are basic ICSA multi-user detector and hybrid ICSA multi-user detector with multi-stage detector (ICSA-MSD-MUD). For ICSA-MSD-MUD, the MSD is considered as an operator inside the ICSA algorithm. The hybrid detector can reach excellent performance by utilizing ICSA to implement global search and by utilizing MSD to implement local search. The results of simulation show the feasibility and validity of the presented multi-user detectors. © 2010 IEEE.

As we know, service-aware computing is an important part of pervasive computing for Web-based mobile application with uncertainty. We modified the fusion method of evidence information after considering context's reliability, time-efficiency, and relativity, which has improved the classical fusion rule of D-S (Dempster-Shafer) Evidence Theory when being used in the pervasive computing paradigm. We call it EDS. After extending the process, we overcome the drawbacks of classical D-S Evidence Theory. All these suggested technologies have been successfully used in our service-aware computing projects. The efficiency of our researches has been shown by our many application practices. © 2010 IEEE.

Ad hoc networks, which are multi-hop and autonomous decentralized networks, have broad perspective in military communication, emergency communication, sensor networks and so on. Enhancing the performance of Ad hoc networks is one of the important objectives in the design of networks while congestion is a significant contributor that leads to network performance degradation. Many different congestion control strategies in transport layer, network layer, MAC layer and even cross-layer have been widely researched. Jian Liu et al. bring forward ATCP to improve traditional TCP congestion control in ad hoc networks [1]. Reference [2] proposes a MAC layer congestion control mechanism which mainly uses the congestion window to control the MAC's sending rate in 802.11 WLANs. D. Kliazovich and F. Granelli [3] research a crosslayer congestion control scheme, in which transport layer's data stream is adjust by the information of link layer, such as bandwidth and delay. The essential reason causing congestion is that user data rate exceeds link data transmit rate capability. Most of the congestion control strategies research how to control user data rate properly to achieve the goal. However, in this paper we investigate MAC layer intelligent split-stream scheme to improve data transmit rate capability for alleviating congestion in Ad hoc networks. In a practical Ad hoc network, due to terrain and interference, link qualities of the paths to some nodes are quite good while those to others are relatively bad. Single node conventionally selects good path expecting great performance of itself. However, multi-nodes all select good path often cause severe competition at MAC, which eventually lead to performance degradation of the whole network. © 2010 IEEE.

The performance of a model, which is trained with offline data, is highly relied on the conditions in which the system is working. When the working conditions change, the prediction accuracy of the model will be reduced significantly. To solve this problem, we propose an adaptive SVR modeling method based on vector-field-smoothed (VFS) algorithm. This method can adapt the model quickly to new working conditions by using only a few adaptive samples. Also, it can extend the feature subspace which the model covers so as to enhance the generalization ability of the model. The experimental results show that the model using this method can achieve a much better performance than the original model, as well as the model using other adaptive SVR modeling method. © 2010 IEEE.

Not only in real societies, but also in virtual worlds, the spatial pattern of transport networks imposes important influences on the travel, work and living style of people or agents. To gain a deep understanding of such influences, this study simulates the developmental process of a transport network by deploying an algorithm of neighborhood-diffusion on an artificial society platform with characteristics of geographic systems. The finally developed spatial pattern of transport network differs significantly from that yielded previously from using a DLA algorithm. Importantly, it is demonstrated that the transportation network produced with the neighborhood-diffusion algorithm displays a spatial pattern very similar to the idealized agricultural land use style described by von Thiinen rings. Hence, the neighborhood-diffusion algorithm is more suitable for understanding the formative process of rural land use change, in contrast to the suitability of the DLA algorithm for explaining urban developmental process. © 2010 IEEE.

This paper proposes a systematic gain setting method for the positive feedback anti-islanding scheme which is designed to protect the interconnected inverter-based distributed generators (DGs) from islanding operation. Two main factors affecting the performance of the anti-islanding scheme are investigated when the positive feedback gain is tuned. One is the stability impact of the anti-islanding control on distributed generation (DG) systems and the other is the islanding detection time of the anti-islanding scheme. The small-signal model and the electromagnetic transient simulation model of an inverter-based DG system are developed to facilitate the realization of the proposed gain setting method. This method provides a practical and reliable tool for DG planning engineers. ©2010 IEEE.

Nowadays the electric welding machine is in widespread use. As is well known, the actual AC/DC electric efficiency of all traditional welders (including inverter type welder) are low. This is mainly caused by its low power factor and high harmonics. In order to eliminate such electric pollutions by the condenser discharge welder, in this paper, let us introduce a new circuit topology for such welder. Namely, let us insert a "two-capacitor paradox circuit" in the discharge loop of traditional condenser discharge welder. Some one may say: the socalled "two-capacitor paradox circuit" is an ancient chestnut of circuit theory. That is, if we closing an idea switch between two passive linear lumped time-invariant capacitors with different initial voltage gives rise to an apparent paradox. A part of the total energy stored in the two capacitors suddenly vanishes. Hence, the energy conservation law appears to be violated. This problem has been presented over the decades. In this paper, the ancient two-capacitor problem is reconsidered detail. We are rejoice to tell you an unexpected good news that there is no any missing energy in this new type welder. To show the validity of swarm robots modeling and control properties influenced by resulting algorithmic parameter settings, particle swarm optimization (PSO) is extended to be tools for applying to swarm robotic search applications. For this end, a series of experimental simulations are conducted and the effects of key algorithmic parameters, i.e., communication range, detection radius, and swarm size emerge from the statistical results. In such control architecture, swarm robots are modeled at an abstract level with the extended PSO and each individual is assumed to be controlled under three-state finite state machine mechanism. Simulation results indicate the validity of modeling method. Besides, significant positive correlations between search efficiency and communication range, detection radius as well as swarm size are also found. ©2010 IEEE.

In order to support mobile service of long-distance monitoring and controlling UPS based on Web, a kind of design and implementation solution of embedded UPS (EUPS) system is brought forward in this paper. The design and implementation of system is based on ATmega161 and RTL8019AS with TCP/IP protocol suite for communication. In the EUPS system, an embedded file system is designed and implemented which can store the data and index information on a serial EEPROM chip in structured way and communicate with MCU through I2C bus. By embedding the file system into UPS system or other information appliances, users can browse and manipulate local data on the web client side. Based on our experimental tests, the performance of EUPS can meet the requirements of Web-based mobile services. © 2010 Binary Information Press.
