Subspace clustering is a powerful technology for clustering data according to the underlying subspaces. Representation based methods are the most popular subspace clustering approach in recent years. In this paper, we analyze the grouping effect of representation based methods in depth. In particular, we introduce the enforced grouping effect conditions, which greatly facilitate the analysis of grouping effect. We further find that grouping effect is important for subspace clustering, which should be explicitly enforced in the data self-representation model, rather than implicitly implied by the model as in some prior work. Based on our analysis, we propose the SMooth Representation (SMR) model. We also propose a new affinity measure based on the grouping effect, which proves to be much more effective than the commonly used one. As a result, our SMR significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art ones on benchmark datasets.

In this paper, a convenient and noninvasive scanning imaging method using microwave frequency band for abnormal subepidermal tissues detection is proposed in the aim to improve diagnosis and prognosis in clinical environments. This method is based on the reflective detection technology with coaxial probe that is used to measure the dielectric properties of tissues. An improved equivalent circuit and simulated annealing algorithm (SA) were used in this work to analyze the dielectric properties of tissues. Computational simulations incorporating a simplified model of subcutaneous hemorrhage described in this work were used to evaluate this method. The dielectric properties data of tissues in the model of simulation is derived from the literature. The simulation results demonstrated the potential of this method to detect abnormal subepidermal tissues conveniently and expose them in the image accurately. © 2014 - IOS Press and the authors.

This paper proposes an improved power sharing control scheme to achieve the accurate power sharing control and offer an improved PCC voltage regulation capability in islanding microgrid. An enhanced virtual impedance design is assumed in the conventional droop control scheme to manage distributed generation (DG) units to export the accurate reactive power in proportion to their rating. A point of common coupling (PCC) voltage restoration control is implemented to eliminate the PCC voltage deviation produced by the droop control effect and voltage drop effect on the impedance. This control scheme of each individual DG unit was designed to only use the locally measured feedback variables of inverter. It can realize accurate reactive power sharing and guarantee the PCC voltage quality. Matlab.simulations are presented to show the effectiveness of proposed control performance in islanding microgrid.

Despite numerous efforts on blur measurement of partially blurred images, there still lacks an effective blur measure that is both pixel-wise and locally sharp consistent. The paper proposes a novel method with two contributions to overcome this limitation: 1) A new pixel-based blur metric, Multi-resolution Singular Value (MSV), which leverages the average singular value of high frequency bands to measure the blur of each pixel, and 2) a locally continuous strategy, maximum-likelihood estimation (MLE) based refinement, that ensures local continuity by imposing the local sharp consistency on pixel blur in a local correcting process. Experimental results show that our method is effective to smoothly measure the partially blurred images without local discontinuity.

We propose in this paper an intelligent system for human fall detection in indoor environments. It can serve as home surveillance for elderly person. Specifically, we detect the human body captured by camera using the Vibe algorithm. Then Gabor feature of a human body is extracted as observation feature. Based on the extracted feature, incidents are detected as the changes from the standing state to the fall state in the feature space. The feature is detected on single image and is effective and efficient. Compared with the motion features across images combined with biological inspired feed-forward network, our method can obtain more robust detection results.

The precise prediction of bus routes or the arrival time of buses for a traveler can enhance the quality of bus service. However, many social factors influence people's preferences for taking buses. These social factors may include heavy traffic cost, traffic congestion, poor air quality and so forth. Existing prediction techniques rarely consider social sensing when predicting the bus arrival time. Accordingly, this paper proposes a social sensing enhanced service for predicting bus routes, which integrates sensing ability and social networks to understand and measure the influence between social events and vehicle velocity. We focus on the analysis of two different attributions: PT service quality attributions PEA s and road condition attributions PRCA s. Both of them synthesize the social sensing in their evaluation of bus routes. PEA represents individual preferences and PRCA represents physical factors that significantly influence vehicle velocity. Bus relevant social events were further categorized into PEA events or PRCA events. PEA s of buses were scored according to the tendency of bus conditions reflected in social events. Furthermore, an artificial neural network prediction model is established to estimate the bus travel time. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is an innovative and programmable networking architecture, representing the direction of the future network evolution. In this paper, we propose an architecture to introduce traffic classification techniques into the OpenFlow-based SDN network, which enables the network to be application-aware, so the network could distinguish various applications flows and know the requirements of different flows. Our new architecture also take advantage of the new intelligence to make the network forward traffic flows based flows' demands on bandwidth and delay, which could improve Quality of Service (QoS) of applications and optimize resource allocation all over the network.

This paper focuses on the load shifting problem in a household scenario with a large-capacity battery. We propose a novel Model Predictive Control （MPC） framework to control the charge/discharge power of battery, hence to shave the peak load. Being different from other studies, the framework is designed on the base of individual habit of energy consumption, as it is envisioned that the individual habit is critical for choosing the suitable energy services. In this paper, the habit is modeled as a Markov process and gradually learned by an iterative algorithm;thus, the habit can be utilized for the prediction of future energy consumption. Then, the rolling optimization is applied for the optimal control of the charge/discharge power of battery. It is shown by numerical simulations that the proposed approach can significantly reduce the peak load.

A numerical model of fault calculation for AC-DC interconnected system under asymmetrical fault is proposed. It involves two converter models that work effectively under asymmetrical fault. Firstly the article establishes a converter model that based on switching function. In which HVDC system is substituted as sequence impedance in the AC system. The article proposes another converter model that based on the power factor of converter. In which HVDC system can be substituted as power source in the AC system. By simplifying the dynamic characteristics of the control system of HVDC, the numerical model of control system is proposed, and the circuit model of HVDC system is established. Iterative algorithm is used to solve the fault system. The simulation results and calculation results are compared under several fault conditions, and the applicability of the model and switch function is discussed. Some further researches are carried out based on the numerical model.

With the development of computer science, intelligent video surveillance technology has been widely used, moving target detection becomes an important part in the field of intelligent video surveillance. Moving foreground extraction, which is the first step of moving target detection, decides the accuracy of moving target detection. Traditional frame difference, background subtraction and other moving foreground extraction algorithms do get the extracted results but still have some shortcomings, such as disabilities and holes. So a moving foreground expansion method based on Gaussian distribution is proposed in this paper. This method utilizes the theory of Gaussian distribution to establish the Gaussian kernel on the boundary of the moving foreground. Next, the mean and variance of the Gaussian kernel is calculated. And then the necessary probability can be obtained with the mean and variance. At last, we can determine whether to expand according to the contrast result of the probability and the stated threshold, making the missing parts get an effective supplement and expansion. The experiments show that the method can detect moving targets more accurately due to effectively complementing the moving foreground. © 2013 IEEE.
