A 1.0GHz, Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) fabricated in TSMC 1.2V 1P9M 65nm CMOS LP-Process is presented in the paper. The output frequency is proportional to the control voltage (Vctrl). The advantage of the architecture is very simple and easy to be realized and it aims at low power, low area and low cost. Measured results show that the VCO operates at 400 MHz to 1.6 GHz while Vctl ranges from 0.8V to 1.4V and the tuning range is even larger than 100%. The VCO works well in Register File and consumes 0.5 mA from a 1.2-V power supply, and occupies an area of 400 μm2. © 2011 IEEE.

Arterial stiffness is an effective parameter for monitoring sub-clinical arterial stiffness, and can tell effectively the cardioArterial health condition of human body. Elastic expansion coefficient of blood vessel (named as ETK) denotes the degree of arterial elastic expansion during systolic ejection, usually used to calculate other cardiovascular parameters as the intermediate variable. A new method is proposed to estimate directly the arteriosclerotic degree with ETK, and a non-invasive monitor for blood pressure and arterial stiffness is developed. Clinical experiment results show that the correlation coefficient between ETK and results of clinical ultrasound system is 0.76, which proves the validity of the method. © 2011 IEEE.

Photovoltaic array is the base of the photovoltaic power system. To use the PV battery array efficiently and properly and to protect it, it is important to build an accurate Photovoltaic array model and to analyze the characteristics of the PV array under different circumstances. The characteristics of mono-crystalline silicon, poly-crystalline silicon and amorphous silicon PV modules' basic electrical characteristics were studied by simulation analysis and the experimental measurement. Depending on the experimental data, the forward circuit model of photovoltaic battery is built up in the simulation platform of MATlab.to compare the differences of the different photovoltaic arrays' electrical characteristics. The influence on the electrical characteristics of PV module caused by parameters such as insolation and temperature is analyzed. The array characteristics of PV module are analyzed and the commercial PV array in shading conditions is simulated. © 2011 IEEE.

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), trap coverage has recently been proposed to tradeoff between the availab.lity of sensor nodes and sensing performance. It offers an efficient framework to tackle the challenge of limited resources in large scale sensor networks. Currently, existing works only studied the theoretical foundation of how to decide the deployment density of sensors to ensure the desired degree of trap coverage. However, the practical issues such as how to efficiently schedule sensor node to guarantee trap coverage under an arbitrary deployment is still left untouched. In this paper, we formally formulate the Minimum Weight Trap Cover Problem and prove it is an NP-hard problem. To solve the problem, we introduce a bounded approximation algorithm, called Trap Cover Optimization (TCO) to schedule the activation of sensors while satisfying specified trap coverage requirement. The performance of MinimumWeight Trap Coverage we find is proved to be at most O(ρ) times of the optimal solution, where ρ is the density of sensor nodes in the region. To evaluate our design, we perform extensive simulations to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm and show that our algorithm achieves at least 14% better energy efficiency than the state-of-the-art solution. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper presents an Android platform's pedometer application design which uses SOLite database to provide the historical data query function and bases on the acceleration sensor and the orientation sensor. This paper first introduces the background of the application and the principle of Android platform pedometer. In addition, it also analyzes and compares the different design between the single acceleration sensor pedometer and the multi-sensor pedometer, which proves the advantage of this design. And then, on this basis, this paper describes three main functions' designs which are step count function, history query function and health test function. This paper also describes the implementation and results of this application design and proves the design's feasibility and correctness. © 2011 IEEE.

Sparsity adaptive matching pursuit algorithm (SAMP) is a compressed sensing signal reconstruction algorithm with good performance. However, as the support set expands one time, the backward pursuit should be processed for many times, in which redundant update calculations are included. To solve the problem, this paper presents a fast sparsity adaptive matching pursuit algorithm (FSAMP). During the operation of the FSAMP, the backward pursuit is performed only once when the support set expands. After the support set is fixed, the backward pursuit shall be executed for multi times to guarantee the reconstruction precision. Simulation results for signal reconstruction show that the FSAMP has the slight higher reconstruction precision and the much faster reconstruction speed compared with the SAMP. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Ray-tracing, can produce high-quality images, however, the use of ray-tracing has been limited due to its high demands on computational power and memory bandwidth, especially in the case of satellite imagery. In this paper, we propose a scalab.e parallel ray tracing algorithm of satellite imagery on a cluster of multi-core architecture. The algorithm combines demand-driven and data-driven models in order to reduce communication on the cost of maintaining redundant data. In order to make the most of computer's parallelism and increase computational efficiency, it combines two levels of parallelisms, the TLP parallelism brought by the many core architecture and the inter-node parallelism via MPI and OpenMP. Experiment results show that the algorithm is highly scalab.lity. © 2011 IEEE.

Aiming at the Z-source inverter used in the micro-grid and its grid-connected control research, the photovoltaic system was taken as the example. The inverter integrated three functions including MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking), step-up/down DC-side voltage and output grid-connected. In order to overcome the system instability caused by zero point of Z-source net in the right half-plane, the paper proposed nonlinear control method based on differential geometry theoretic, which overcomes the non-minimum phase behavior. When the input condition of the photovoltaic system changes, this control method could make the Z-source inverter DC side output track the MPP rapidly, steadily and little overshoot, and the inverting side output three-phase voltage transmit rapidly and steadily, then improved the quality of grid-connected current. The simulation contrast and experiment result proved the proposed method in the paper is correct and effective. © 2011 EPE Association - European Power Electr.

PageRank has been widely used in ranking retrieval results on the web, finding the top influential papers in citation networks or detecting valuable users in online social networks. However, in practice, it is usually hard to obtain a complete structure of any above networks to rank nodes. Thus, some researchers have begun to explore how to get estimated ranks efficiently without acquiring the whole network. They have proposed some approximating methods, however, it is difficult to determine which method is the best one or which is suitable to a certain application. In this case, we set experiments in small-world and scale-free generated networks to certify the feasibility and characteristics of four approximating methods. We also use eleven real networks to mention different optimal conditions for these methods. We find the DIGRank method performs better than other local estimation methods in almost every given subgraph. Besides, Mean field approach method tends to perform well in networks that have low average shortest path length, small amount of nodes with the same low indegree, or weak community structure. Finally, we apply the most versatile method DIGRank to Sina micro-blog website to precisely classify users in a group as elites, grassroots or mummy users. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper, we present a novel color-mood-aware technique to re-texture clothing in a photograph. An efficient classification algorithm is developed to classify clothing textures using color mood scheme. To re-texture the clothing, our approach first computes the gradient maps for the cloth region to be replaced and then calculates the texture distortion coordinates on the projected cloth region according to the gradient maps. After the user selects a target clothing texture from the classified clothing texture database, the lighting and shading effects on the original photograph is transferred using the HSV color space. Experimental results show that the proposed approach successfully re-textures the clothes in photographs while preserving the geometry and lighting features. © 2011 IEEE.
