Star sensors are widely used in aerospace and astronautics due to their high precise attitude measurements. The main difficulty when estimate a fully autonomous attitude is identifying the stars in the sensor field. This paper surveys the development of the past 35 years in the area of autonomous star identification. Some classical algorithms such as polygon algorithm, match group algorithm, grid algorithm, neural network, genetic algorithm, singular value method, and so on are reviewed and described in detail. The performances of each algorithm are compared and the factors related to the problem are analyzed. Finally, some conclusions and suggestions are given for future research.

In this paper, we present an efficient look-ahead technique based on both the Language Model (LM) Look-Ahead and the Acoustic Model (AM) Look-Ahead, for the time-synchronous beam search in the large vocabulary speech recognition. In this so-call stage based look-ahead (SLA) technique, two predicting processes with different hypothesis evaluating criteria are organized by stages according to the different requirements for pruning the unlikely surviving hypotheses. Furthermore, in order to reduce the efforts for distributing the LM over the lexical tree more effectively, the LM Rank based Pruning (LMRP) is integrated with the extension of each new phoneme node. The recognition experiments performed on the 50k-word Mandarin Dictation task (Easytalk2000) show that a reduction by 10 percents in the search effort in comparison with the standard word-conditioned search using LM look-ahead only, and a reduction of 25 percents in the word error rates in comparison with the search algorithm without any look-ahead can be achieved.

The identification of Chinese herbal powders is usually based on physical or chemical detection, but that is far from enough to identity dozens of herbal species. Microscopic images of these powders contain variety of information, and important evidence for identification. These images usually contain variety of substance, and most of them are noises, which makes the target segmentation become a difficult job. An effective automatic target segmentation algorithm based on texture is proposed in this paper. Our method consists of two steps: "Preliminary Segmentation" and "Further Segmentation". Firstly, feature vector of texture is extracted and clustered into two groups: background and foreground;secondly, taking the continuity of edge and the locality of target into consideration, energy equations are established, and Maximum flow-Minimum cut Algorithm is applied to solve them. Three groups of images are used to test our method: microscopic images of Chinese herbal powders, Brodaze Images, and natural texture images. And the experimental results show that our method achieves a better segmentation compared with Grab-Cut, and additionally user inter-action is not required in our method.
