Microfluidics is a promising system for the manipulation of micro-nano particles and fluids. In this platform, alternating current （AC） electric field is usual an effective tool for the general particles control. However, traditional work paid more attention on the regular spherical particles with no obvious distinction when rotating, resulting in imprecise rotation speed calculation. In essence, non-spherical especially biocompatible particles are not only important for biology application but also significant for obtaining accurate rotating results. Hence, in this paper, SU-8, one of the most biocompatible materials was selected as the manipulation object. AC electric field is employed to rotate SU-8 microrods, in order to obtain a controllab.e rotation angle for both the accurate experimental results and biosensor applications. Firstly, Clausius-Mossotti（CM） factors frequency spectra with different surface conductance and medium conductivities are presented, thereby the theoretical formula is carried out, including both the torque and rotation velocity expressions of SU-8 microrods. Moreover, simulations for the electric field distribution are developed, indicating the rotating direction. Secondly, the quadrupole electrodes are used to generate rotating electric field, and the electrorotation of SU-8 microrods in different medium is carried out, showing that the particles rotate in the opposite direction of the electric field, meanwhile, the peak frequency increases with the conductivity increases. Finally, the experimental results are discussed and compared with theoretical analysis, and the comparison result shows that they have a good agreement. This work proposes an effective and controllab.e method to rotate microrods, showing extend application potentials in microelectronics and biosensors.

By taking advantage of active radio waves, radar sensors can provide high-accuracy target detection over traditional passive sensors. In this paper, we study barrier coverage in bistatic radar sensor networks (BRSNs), which consist of a set of transmitter radars and receiver radars. Barrier coverage in BRSNs is much more difficult than that in traditional sensor networks as the sensing area of a bistatic radar depends on the positions of both transmitter and receiver, and is typically a Cassini oval. Moreover, different transmitters and receivers can pair with each other by choosing the same frequency and thus the sensing network topology can be quite different in different time slots. To tackle this challenge, we first investigate the characteristic of the ε-covered area of a bistatic radar, then we represent a bistatic radar with a virtual point at the middle point of the line segment formed by the transmitter and receiver. With these representations, we formulate the barrier coverage problem in BRSNs as (k, ε)-Minimum Weight Barrier Coverage Problem ((k, ε)-MWBCP). By constructing a directed coverage graph, we transform the (k, ε)-MWBCP into finding k node-disjoint shortest paths and propose an energy-efficient algorithm called (k, ε)-MWBCA to solve the problem within polynomial time. Extensive simulations are conducted to demonstrate the performance of our proposed algorithm.

Maximum consensus is useful in many applications such as leader selection and time synchronization, and it is advantageous for its decentralization and finite time convergence. However, without preservation mechanisms for maximum consensus, nodes' initial states and especially the identity of the node with the maximum initial state will be disclosed, which is undesirable in some application scenarios. To preserve the privacy of maximum consensus while maintaining its advantages, we propose a Privacy Preserving Maximum Consensus (PPMC) algorithm, where all nodes independently generate and transmit random numbers before sending out their initial states. We prove that PPMC converges in finite time. Meanwhile, explicit formulas are given to characterize the probability that the maximum state owner's identity is inferred by its neighbors. Extensive simulations are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Path tracking issues of autonomous ground vehicles (AGVs) have attracted more attention in recent years with the intelligent and electrified development of vehicles. In order to make AGVs path tracking problem more flexible, regional path tracking problem is discussed in this manuscript based on model predictive control (MPC) method, where the front wheel steering angle is regarded as the control variable. The feasible region for AGVs running is determined first according to the detected road boundaries. In the following, AGVs running in this region is considered using kinematic model. Then, in order to make the actual trajectory of AGVs keep in the region and satisfy the safety requirements, MPC method is employed to design path tracking controller considering the vehicle dynamics, the actuator and state constraints. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, simulations under various test conditions are carried out using a high fidelity vehicle simulator veDYNA, where the Hongqi vehicle HQ430 parameters are matched. The results obtained from the simulation illustrate that the proposed algorithm obtains good performance in dealing with the regional path tracking problem.

Analysis of software licensing mode and compatibility choice with network externality

With network externality, two licensing modes-perpetual licensing mode and Softwareas-a-Service mode, and four compatibility choices-no compatibility, backward compatibility, forward compatibility and backward & forward compatibility, are considered. Consumers' purchasing decision and the vendor's pricing strategy are examined through two-stage models under each combination of licensing mode and compatibility choice. The results show that backward & forward compatibility maximizes the vendor's revenue under perpetual licensing mode, and any of no compatibility, backward compatibility and backward & forward compatibility may maximize the vendor's profit with software development costs under different compatibility choices. Under Software-as-a-Service mode, the compatibility choice has no impact on the vendor's revenue, and no compatibility maximizes the vendor's profit. When revenue maximization is the vendor's concern, perpetual licensing mode is superior to Software-as-a-Service mode;when profit maximization is the vendor's objective, Software-as-a-Service mode usually becomes better than perpetual licensing mode. © 2015, Systems engineering Society of China. Single Line to Ground (SLG) faults in non-effectively grounded networks are difficult to detect. Immune to neutral point grounding type, load conditions and system operation conditions, traveling-wave based method is an effective fault line identification method. However, due to the strong coupling between the double-circuit lines, the wavefront magnitude of them are the same, and the polarity of them are opposite. Thus, the mal-identification will be resulted under such condition. This paper analyzed the traveling wave characteristics of double-circuit lines, and proposed an improved fault line identification method based on the initial process of zero sequence currents and voltage traveling waves. Tests show that, the proposed method has high effectiveness in fault line identification of double-circuit lines in distribution networks.

Traditional fault diagnosis and prognosis (FDP) approaches are based on Riemann sampling (RS), in which samples are taken and algorithms are executed in a periodic time interval. With the increase of system complexity, the real-time implementation of this Riemann sampling-based FDP (RS-FDP) becomes a bottleneck, especially for distributed applications. To overcome this problem, a Lebesgue sampling-based FDP (LS-FDP) is proposed. LS-FDP takes samples on the fault dimension axis and provides a need-based diagnostic philosophy in which the algorithm is executed only when necessary. In previous Lebesgue sampling-based FDP, the Lebesgue length is a constant. To accommodate the change of fault dynamics, it is desirable to execute FDP algorithm more frequently when the fault growth is fast while less frequently when fault growth is slow. This requires to change the Lebesgue length adaptively. The goal of this paper is to deliver an improved LS-FDP method with varying Lebesgue length, which enables the FDP to be executed according to needs. The design and implementation of varying Lebesgue length LS-FDP based on a particle filtering algorithm are illustrated with experimental results on Li-ion batteries to verify the performances of the proposed approach. The experimental results show that the new varying LS-FDP is accurate and time-efficient on long term prognosis and also keeps a closer monitoring on the fast increase of fault size. © 2015, Prognostics and Health Management Society. Reasonable timing design for traffic light can induce and maintain the transportation systems in good order. How to allocate the time are the keys. In the paper, the theory of time-varying universe is used to describe the circle time, and corresponding fuzzy sets on the universe are also discussed to modeling the situation of traffic flow, then the parallel traffic management and control methods which are dynamic with the time change are presented. A simulation example are provided to analyze the linguistic dynamic evolution of timing design of traffic light when the traffic flow is change with time-varying for an intersection.

This paper proposed a novel hybrid power converter topology based on cascaded H-bridge (CHB) and matrix converter (MC) in order to improve the performance of the conventional energy management systems in EV/PHEV application. The power demand by the load is supplied by the generator and batteries, which are connected to the primary winding of the medium frequency transformer (MFT) by the matrix converter and the cascaded H-bridge respectively. The power transfer between the sources and load can be controlled and isolated by using the MFT. The cascaded H-bridge, as the energy control unit, can be used to balance the voltage/SOC of battery packages individually, significantly improve the modularity, stability and safety of EV system.

The paper presents a new approach on haptic interface control for NAO robotic hand. The haptic teleoperation of NAO robot hand raises some issues, mapping the haptic device dynamic being the most important. The mapping was achieved through Neural Network by determining a dynamic gain of robot haptic feedback. The results lead to the achievement of the haptic intelligent interfaces for the NAO robot hand control which can be integrated into an innovative haptic robot control system.
