Distance and energy relevant clustering spectrum sensing in cognitive radio networks

In this paper, a cluster-based spectrum sensing strategy is proposed during the low traffic periods of primary user (PU) with the aim of minimizing the average number of sensing bits for secondary users (SUs) while keeping the missing probability below a predefined threshold. In the clustering phase, we introduce a new distance-and-energy-relevant-clustering-algorithm (DERCA) which is based on the distances between the PU and SUs acquired by the trigonometry theory and the remaining energies of SUs. In the next spectrum sensing phase, without need for any coordination among the cluster-member SUs, we increase the reliability of the spectrum sensing strategy by using judging credibility in the energy detection followed by feature detection. Performance evaluations reveal that the proposed strategy can decrease sensing bits consumption greatly and achieve lower missing detection probability at the expense of a little sensing delay performance loss. © 2014 by Binary Information Press

This paper considers a multi-antenna transmission strategy for high speed railway communications. In order to achieve better performance than conventional space-frequency block coding schemes, we propose a directional beamforming strategy for the High-speed railway(HSR) communication by exploiting some characteristic of the railway system including predetermined moving tracks and real-time positioning information. Moreover,for alleviating the effect of Doppler shift due to the moving train, a frequency offset precorrection method is also incorporated with direction beamforming. Theoretical Signalto-noise ratio(SNR) gain of the proposed beamforming scheme over traditional HSR communication schemes is also derived for illustrating the performance *** results verify the effectiveness of our proposed scheme even with some kind of imperfect position information availab.e at the transmitter.

This paper studies how to optimize the energy usage of home appliances in the demand response framework from the consumer's perspective. The loads of major home appliances are divided into three categories: fixed loads, regulate-able loads, and deferrable loads. For efficient usage of the home appliances, an integrative optimization of the three category loads is needed. The paper investigates the relation of the integrative optimization and individual optimization of each category load. A regression-based learning strategy is employed to learn HAVC energy consumption model for development of more efficient DR policy. The study is conducted through an integrative computational experiment approach that combines a home energy simulator and MATlab.together for demand response development and evaluation. The paper examines how the integrative demand response of the residential home appliances are affected by dynamic pricing tariffs, seasons, and weather. Case studies are conducted by considering home energy consumption, dynamic electricity pricing schemes, and demand response methods.

It has been recognized by many researchers that accurate bus travel time prediction is critical for successful deployment of traffic signal priority (TSP) systems. Although there exist a lot of studies on travel time prediction for Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS), this problem for TSP purpose is a little different and the amount of literature is limited. This paper proposes a deep learning based approach for continuous travel time prediction problem. Parameters of the deep network are fine-tuned following a layer-by-layer pre-training procedure on a dataset generated by traffic simulations. Variables that may affect continuous travel time are selected carefully. Experiments are conducted to validate the performance of the proposed model. The results indicate that the proposed model produces prediction with mean absolute error less than 4 seconds, which is accurate enough for TSP operations. This paper also reveals that, except for obvious factors like speed, travel distance and traffic density, the signal time when the prediction is made is also an important factor affecting travel time.

In industry and academia, researchers have given more and more attention to Cognitive Radio (CR). The key idea of CR is to make it possible for a wireless system to find the vacant spectrum and transfer data without interfering with licensed users (LUs). Then, OFDM is proposed as a candidate signaling technology for such applications. However, the sidelobe interference of subcarriers has become a problem. In this letter, a method for sidelobe suppressing in OFDM systems is proposed and investigated. The proposed method is based on sampling in optimal locations with optimal weights in Active Interference Cancellation (AIC). By means of this technique, the maximum interference of the target spectrum is minimized. The proposed method can be used to minimize the maximum interference to licensed users in OFDM-based cognitive radio systems. Additionally, this method can be combined with other algorithms, such as Cancellation Carriers (CCs) and Subcarrier Weighting (SW), to enhance their performance under the minimax criterion. © 2014 ACADEMY PUBLISHER.

To improve the reliability of hydraulic systems, a fault diagnosis approach based on radial basis function (RBF) networks was proposed in this paper. According to the target fault features extracted from a fuzzy auto-regressive with extra outputs (FARX) model, RBF networks serve as a fault classifier and the output of the RBF networks is the result of fault diagnosis. Several typical faults of hydraulic systems were used to test the fault diagnosis approach. Experiment results showed that the fault diagnosis approach is feasible and effective for improving the reliability of hydraulic systems. © 2014 SERSC.

The spectral characteristics of benzoyl peroxide in the range of 0.3 to 1.6 in THz region is obtained by THz time-domain spectroscopy, the refraction and absorption spectra of benzoyl peroxide is got,meanwhile. The experimental result shows that, the benzoyl peroxide has the absorption peak at the wave band of 0.36621THz,0.498THz,0.92285THz,1.11328THz, the most obvious of which is at the wave band of *** terahertz absorption spectra of the mixture of flour and benzoyl peroxide is studied at the same *** experimental study provides a new method to detect benzoyl peroxide illegally added in food. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The effects of signal modality (visual and auditory), hand condition (crossed and uncrossed), and head orientation (upright, right-90, left-90, and left back) on response performance were e xamined in this study. The results showed all the factors significantly affected the reaction time of participants and there was an interaction effect between signal modality and head orientation. Responses for visual signals were significantly faster than those for auditory signals, and responses made with uncrossed hand were superior to those with crossed hand. On head orientation, upright orientation produced the fastest reaction time, while reaction time for head rotated 90° right (right-90) was significantly faster than that for head rotated 90° left (left-90) and rotated left backward (left back). Regarding the significant interaction effect between signal modality and head orientation, processing time for visual signals was always faster than that for auditory signals. Such modality superiority increased to a larger extent under the left 90 and left back head orientations. The findings in this experiment provide some practical ergonomics recommendations for improving control console design in terms of signal-response layout, stimulus-hand arrangement, head orientation, and methods of presenting visual and auditory signals.

The effectiveness evaluation problem of electronic warfare command and control system (EWCCS) under complex electromagnetic environment is investigated by using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method. First, the evaluation hierarchy structures of EWCCS under complex electromagnetic environment are put forward and can be classified into target hierarchy, rule hierarchy and scheme hierarchy. Then, the AHP Algorithm is given as a preliminary knowledge to evaluate the effectiveness evaluation of EWCCS under complex electromagnetic environment. Finally, an effectiveness evaluation example of EWCCS under complex electromagnetic environment is considered by using AHP Algorithm. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

A 4kV compact electromagnetic pulse (EMP) generator based on Break Over Diode (BOD) has been developed in this paper. The EMP generator consists of a high-voltage DC power source, a Marx circuit and the corresponding digital trigger circuit. The output of the EMP generator has the peak voltage of 4kV, the rise time of 300 nanoseconds and the FWHM within 20ns, which can satisfy the design requirements. In addition, some factors which could affect the rise time and pulse width are discussed through computer simulation and field tests. The EMP generator not only can be used as the excitation pulse source of protection devices, but also can be used in experimental investigation of newly emerging field of bio-electrics. © 2014 IEEE.
