With the developing of the high-speed railways, the requirement for railway signalling turns more and more strict. Came from France, the TVM430 signal has more information up to 27 bits digital word, with each bit corresponding to one of the 27 frequencies modulated onto the carrier frequency in the track circuits. The presence of a particular frequency indicates a "1" bit and lack of corresponds to a "0". But the slow demodulation is the biggest flaw for TVM430. To solve the above problems, we design a new digital coded track signal - Improved TVM430 Railway Signalling (ITRS). ITRS reduces the number of TVM430's modulation frequency while provides the same information capacity as TVM430. We also search for cycle generating polynomial, add parity checking to the important code - speed identification code. New frequency, amplitude and phase are defined for frequency modulated signals. ITRS performs better in information capacity, reliability and demodulation speed.

Heat dissipation is a very important subject during the design of RGB-LED backlighting system on LCD because the heat produced by modern LEDs themselves can excessively influence their characteristics. This paper reports on a new substrate technology that offers significant benefits over conventional polymer-based insulated metal substrates (IMS). This new type of insulated aluminum substrate printed circuit board (PCB) consists of a thermally-conductive aluminum alloy substrate that insulated by a thin, chemically grown, anodized dielectric layer. Circuit is formed above the anodized layer with magnetron sputtering technology. The corresponding thermal resistances of the new and conventional insulated metal substrate printed circuit board (PCB) are measured to be 4.78 /W and 7.61/W, respectively. More heat transfer means more reliable product, less light reduction and less material consumption because of eliminating the need for additional heat sinks. © 2009 IEEE.

Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) is a newly developed technique in the last decade. A new method to classify tea is proposed based on THz-TDS and pattern recognition method. Four kinds of tea are investigated to study its feasibility. Their absorption spectra are measured using the THz-TDS system. Then a pattern recognition method, support vector machine (SVM), is employed to differentiate the investigated tea based on their terahertz data. The absorption spectra between 0.2 and 2.0 THz of the investigated tea samples are selected as the feature to classify them. The correct rate of recognition for the SVM classifier is 96.88%. The results give evidence that different tea varieties can be distinguished based on their terahertz spectra. In this respect, the spectral method provides enough information to differentiate different kinds of tea. © 2009 SPIE.

Modeling of Isomerization of C_8 Aromatics by Online Least Squares Support Vector Machine

The least squares support vector regression (LS-SVR) is usually used for the modeling of single output system, but it is not well suitable for the actual multi-input-multi-output system. The paper aims at the modeling of multi-output systems by LS-SVR. The multi-output LS-SVR is derived in detail. To avoid the inversion of large matrix, the recursive algorithm of the parameters is given, which makes the online algorithm of LS-SVR practical. Since the computing time increases with the number of training samples, the sparseness is studied based on the pro-jection of online LS-SVR. The residual of projection less than a threshold is omitted, so that a lot of samples are kept out of the training set and the sparseness is obtained. The standard LS-SVR, nonsparse online LS-SVR and sparse online LS-SVR with different threshold are used for modeling the isomerization of C8 aromatics. The root-mean-square-error (RMSE), number of support vectors and running time of three algorithms are compared and the result indicates that the performance of sparse online LS-SVR is more favorable.

Protocol testing has been one of the most active fields in computer networks. In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs),before directly employing protocols on hardware testbed, we expect an effective test framework to verify the logical cor-rectness of protocols on computers, which could facilitate the whole test process. Towards this goal, this paper introduces an upper test framework in WSNs, namely Protocol Testing Framework for WSNs (PTFW). PTFW is a visual client-server test framework which is built upon the unique features of WSNs. It is based on the layered architecture of WSNs and uses Finite state Machine (FSM) theory as the kernel. The proposed test framework is developed on Linux Operating System (OS) and coded in standard C language for the consideration of compatibility for real-world implementation. PTFW provides the standards/specifications of conformance testing for test on hardware testbed. To validate the performance and effectiveness of PTFW, we apply it to a real-world WSNs protocol. The results show that PTFW exhibits excellent visual and real-time features, which bring considerable convenience to the later employments on testbed. Copyright © 2009 ACM.

In this paper, we describe a miniature flight platform weighing less than 700 grams and capable of waypoint navigation, trajectory tracking, precise hovering and automatic takeoff and landing. In an effort to make advanced autonomous behaviors availab.e to mini and micro rotorcraft a lightweight/portable and inexpensive Guidance, Navigation and control system (GN&C) was developed. To compensate for the weaknesses of the low-cost equipment, we put our efforts in obtaining a reliable model-based nonlinear controller. The GN&C system was implemented on a small four rotor helicopter which has undergone an extensive program of flight tests resulting in various flight behaviors under autonomous control from takeoff to landing. Flight test results that demonstrate the operation of the GN&C algorithms on a real MAV arepresented. © 2009 IEEE.

Based on Particle Filter, Gravity Gradient-Terrain aided position technology is proposed in this paper. With the sensitivity of gravity gradient to terrain, the gravity gradient reference map can be computed from the local terrain elevation data. The position can be actualized through matching the real-time measured gravity gradient data to the prepared gravity gradient reference map. The most widely used approximate filtering method is the extended Kaman filter (EKF). EKF is computationally simple but, the convergence of the state estimation for the position is not guaranteed. Particle filter (PF) makes use of the non-linear state and measurement functions, no linearization technology is needed. PF can assure the convergence of the state estimation which follows from the classical results on convergence of Bayesian estimators. Simulations have been done and Particle filter has been shown to be a superior alternative to the EKF in the gravity gradient-terrain matching navigation systems. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical engineering.

Performance monitoring of model predictive control systems (MPC) has received a great interest from both academia and industry. In recent years some novel approaches for multivariate control performance monitoring have been developed without the requirement of process models or interactor matrices. Among them the prediction error approach has been shown to be a promising one, but it is k-step prediction based and may not be fully comparable with the MPC objective that is multi-step prediction based. This paper develops a multi-step prediction error approach for performance monitoring of model predictive control systems, and demonstrates its application in an industrial MPC performance monitoring and diagnosis problem.

This paper mainly deals with the statistical processing methods in wireless filed strength prediction process after sampling data are collected. The conventional standard for data collection and statistical processing is Lee's criteria. It utilizes linear averaging to process sampling data, as many other related papers discussed. However, the accuracy of such first order moment estimation is low, especially under serious Rayleigh fading channels. As regards to the defects of the method, we propose four novel statistical processing methods to process the collected data for wireless field strength. Computer simulations and corresponding analysis verify its much better prediction results with small estimation variances.
