The region coverage is an important affecting factor of target detection performance in wireless video sensor networks (WVSN). However, the traditional region coverage can not estimate the target detection performance properly, so the concept of Effective Coverage is introduced in this paper, which can be considered as the equivalent of target detection performance. Moreover, we propose an effective coverage-enhancing approach for video sensor networks based on virtual forces and the directional sensing model. This approach provides a unified modeling of both sensor node and special area, and defines different states of sensor nodes, including free and restraint state. On this basis, the state switch mechanism and selfadaptive adjusting algorithm in the corresponding models are presented to achieve the target detection performance enhancing indirectly. Simulation results are also presented to demonstrate the performance of these algorithms.

In this paper, a new method of extracting wrinkle baselines is achieved. First, obtains the deformation vector field in accordance with the deformation analysis on initial mesh and deformed mesh and stretch the cloth mesh to two-dimensional plane. Then, track and extract the sideline in two-dimensional triangular mesh as initial baselines and smooth it to forms the wrinkle curves. Finally, obtain the three-dimensional coordinate of vertex in the wrinkle curves and integrate the wrinkle curves into the wrinkle area. The experimental results show that the technique achieves a good effect of extracting wrinkle baselines and can be applied to cloth mesh models.

Taking the characteristics of mobile devices and the demands for graphics rendering into account, this paper gives a set of definitions of attributes to express the performance of mobile terminals and algorithm performance. And then, according to the relationship of these attributes, a point-based rendering architecture for mobile devices is proposed. It includes pre-processing simplification, data organization and rendering. Instead of just simplifying the algorithm on PC, the entire process takes the multi-attributes of mobile devices and algorithm into account. Experiments shows that it can make full use of the limited resources to carry out a relatively realistic and real-time rendering.

Haptic rendering of complex scenes is becoming more and more important with the development of the virtualreality in surgical simulation. This paper studies the haptic rendering of the boundaries between tissues with different physical properties which is one of the common problems in complex scene simulation. Three indexes, boundary perceptibility, boundary force stability and plane height stability, are proposed to evaluate the fidelity of haptic boundary rendering. We have introduced two haptic rendering methods on the boundary, gray area method and virtual interface method to simulate two types of force feelings which are categorized into foggy boundary and clear boundary. And three experiments including haptic rendering for foggy boundary, sensing shape of boundary and tooth section simulation, have been done to prove the validity of the methods on the haptic rendering of boundary.

Controlling absolute magnitudes of fingertip force is an important skill in many haptic interactions such as surgical operations and mechanical assemblies. A fundamental question in the force control is how quickly human can output a target force with expected accuracy. In this paper, human's capability to control absolute magnitudes of fingertip force under audio or visual feedback was observed through experiments. Twelve participants applied a target force by pressing a force sensor with their fingers and maintained the force within a specified tolerance for a specific period of time (500ms). The magnitudes of target force and tolerance were manipulated systematically to yield varied levels of task difficulty. The experimental data showed that the applied fingertip force obeyed Fitts' law under both visual and auditory feedback modes when the index of difficulty (ID) was smaller than a threshold. The results may be used as guidelines for the applications that rely on accurate and quick changing force control over a target region such as multiple tapping tasks.

Stereo matching is extensively investigated in computer vision. This article is dedicated to local stereo matching based on adaptive support region for higher accuracy and speed. Firstly, we propose a novel cross-based and diamond-shaped sparse census transform with improved robustness and fastness compared with traditional methods. Secondly, an efficient computation of cost volume is proposed to accommodate diverse images. Once again, we improve the establishment of adaptive support region and ameliorate exponential step cost aggregation at the same time. At last, we achieve final disparity map by winner take all and disparity refinement. Experiments on Middlebury benchmark demonstrate our algorithm's better performance compared with other local methods.
