We propose a scheme to generate isolated attosecond (as) pulses by high-peak-power multicycle laser fields which is based on high-order harmonics generation (HHG) from a helium atom irradiated by a three-color femtosecond (fs) laser field. An infrared laser acts as the driving laser and two tunable lasers act as control fields which are used to modulate the ellipticity and amplitude of the driving field respectively. With well-chosen parameters, an isolated 100 as pulse is generated with a duration of 50 fs.

We theoretically demonstrate a variety of multipole plasmonic lattice solitons, including dipoles, quadrupoles, and necklaces, in two-dimensional metallic nanowire arrays with Kerr-type nonlinearities. Such solitons feature complex internal structures with an ultracompact mode size approaching or smaller than one wavelength. Their mode sizes and the stability characteristics are studied in detail within the framework of coupled mode theory. The conditions to form and stabilize these highly confined solitons are within the experimentally achievable range.

A simple approach based on polarization to process binary all-optical logic signal with validation is proposed, by electro-optic Pokels effect. In experiment, we choose optical signal with two orthogonal linear polarization states to present logic 1 and 0. This approach can alter the polarization state of input optical signal about 90° on the polarization plane based on electro-optic modulation of periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN). optical signal can be switched between the two orthogonal polarization states, and polarization direction will be not changed without external applied electric field. Therefore, it can realize controllab.e-NOT function. If we choose external applied electric field to present logic 1 and 0, it can realize NOR and XNOR functions. In this approach, digital logic signal is carried on the polarization state of optical signal. The dissipation of intensity of optical signal is very small in this process, so this approach is more advantageous for multiply cascaded systems, comparing with traditional approach, in which digital logic signal is carried on the intensity of optical signal.

We propose a scheme to generate isolated sub-100-as pulses with 30-fs lasers. Our model is based on high-order harmonic generation from a helium atom irradiated by a two-color femtosecond laser field, in which the driving and the control fields are linearly polarized and the polarization angle between them is π/4. By mixing the polarization gating technique and optimization of two-color lasers, we destroy the symmetry of the driving field from two directions and realize quantum path control with multicycle lasers.

The polarization behavior of the electromagnetic waves under external electric field in the periodically poled optical superlattice is experimentally observed, which reveals that for the QPM wavelengths [fulfilling the quasi-phase-matched (QPM) condition] the evolution of the polarization exhibits generated paths along the Poincare sphere, but for the NQPM wavelength (not fulfilling the QPM condition) it will split into discrete paths. These phenomena are likely to promote a novel method for a precise polarization control.

The coupled-wave equations of three-wave interactions are generalized into three dimensions. The reciprocal lattice vectors (RLVs) of three-dimensional (3D) nonlinear photonic crystals (NPCs) which show some unique properties are analyzed in detail as compared to those in one- and two-dimensional cases. It is proposed as an example that the cross-distributing conical harmonic beams can be obtained from the 3D NPC by intentionally using the proper RLVs. Some other possible applications are suggested at the end of discussion.
