Recommendation system, as one of cost effective solutions dealing with the information-overwhelming problem, has been adopted by many internet e-commerce platforms, such as Amazon, eBay, Asos, etc. User-based or item-based collaborative filtering, as one of the classic recommendation algorithms, suffers greatly from high computational consumption and matrix complexity when big data is involved. While neural network architecture based deep learning technique, on the other hand, performs outstandingly as an alternative solution solving regression and classification problems, especially with sparse inputs. Furthermore, deep learning alleviates the cold start problem to a certain extent which is an unavoidable flaw in collaborative filtering (CF) approach based recommendation algorithms. This paper proposes a deep learning network structure which utilizes the Restricted Boltzmann Machine and the artificial neural network for Weibo Users. The proposed structure is trained and tested through the actual dataset provided by VComic, who is an online comic book provider and shares the information with China's biggest social network - ***. The offline experiment shows that the proposed system outperforms the user-based collaborative filtering algorithm in the metrics of precision and coverage. Specifically, the proposed mechanism demonstrates the ability to mine the long tail under the premise of accuracy guarantee, as well as to reduce the system's complexity dramatically. © 2018 IEEE.

In this paper, we investigate the impact of network load on the Direct Acyclic Graph (DAG) consensus process for the blockchain enabled Internet of Things. Specifically, Markov chain model has been adopted to illustrate the dynamics in the consensus process for DAG based blockchain networks. The key performance metrics including cumulative weight and transaction confirmation delay are analysed under the unsteady state caused by the fluctuation of transaction arrival rate. The analysis is based on one of the most typical DAGs, Tangle, and the results show that the performance will be affected when the transaction arrival rate fluctuates widely.

Recently, network function virtualization(NFV) was proposed as a paradigm shift in the telecommunication industry. Both industry and academia have drawn significant attention in mobile network *** decouples the software implementation of network functions from the underlying hardware, leading to considerable reductions in operating expenses(OPEX) and capital expenses(CAPEX), and facilitating the network deployment. However, as an emerging technology, NFV brings both challenges and opportunities in developing new architectures, applying and deployment. In this paper, we first survey the related work of NFV, and then propose promising research directions in this area.

Indoor fingerprint location is widely used in passenger flow analysis, location based service, and security monitoring. RSS is usually used as signal fingerprint. However, in these applications the acquisition process relies on the uplink data transmission of the target device. These signals are often non-normally distributed and fluctuate greatly when the target moves. In order to cope with the above difficulties, this paper proposes a hidden markov model (HMM) framework based on targets maximum speed. It combines the speed parameters with path constraints to improve the calculation of state transition matrix. The kernel density estimation method based on the Wiener process is also used to solve the confusion matrix of HMM, which improves the accuracy of estimating the RSS distribution of the uplink signal. The performance of the algorithm are compared with the traditional HMM and NB methods in an actual indoor scenario. The influence of the target moving speed and the length of the observation sequence on the positioning accuracy is also analyzed. © 2018 IEEE.

This paper proposes a cross-layer design to enhance the location privacy under a coordinated medium access control(MAC) protocol for the Internet of Vehicles(Io V). The channel and pseudonym resources are both essential for transmission efficiency and privacy preservation in the Io V. Nevertheless, the MAC protocol and pseudonym scheme are usually studied separately, in which a new MAC layer semantic linking attack could be carried out by analyzing the vehicles' transmission patterns even if they change pseudonyms simultaneously. This paper presents a hierarchical architecture named as the software defined Internet of Vehicles(SDIV). Facilitated by the architecture, a MAC layer aware pseudonym(MAP) scheme is proposed to resist the new attack. In the MAP, RSU clouds coordinate vehicles to change their transmission slots and pseudonyms simultaneously in the mix-zones by measuring the privacy level quantitatively. Security analysis and extensive simulations are conducted to show that the scheme provides reliable safety message broadcasting, improves the location privacy and network throughput in the Io V.

In this paper, cluster centers are defined as local maxima in the density which is called density peaks. We use an algorithm based on density peaks to cluster multipath components (MPCs) whose parameters are estimated by the space-alternating generalized expectation-maximization (SAGE) algorithm. To validate its performance, we apply it to the data from a channel measurement in an indoor scenario at 28 GHz and compare it to the widely used KPowerMeans algorithm with the same distance metric of multiple component distance (MCD). Through the results, we find it can cluster MPCs more accurately validated by Calinski-Harabasz (CH) and Davies-Bouldin (DB) indices. More importantly, it overcomes the shortcoming of setting the number of clusters manually because we can determine the cluster centers automatically. Besides, the efficiency of DP clustering is far superior to KPowerMeans because what it needs is only a distance matrix and we only need to compute it once. At the end, statistical analysis of clusters are presented to provide insights in channel modeling of millimeter wave. © Institution of Engineering and *** Rights Reserved.

In the past few years, there has been a rapid growth in cloud computing, especially IaaS. It's a trend to use hybrid clouds that incorporate components of private and public clouds in order to achieve lower cost, higher availability and better security. Enterprises could get the benefits from it, including high elasticity, efficiency, flexibility, etc. In the meantime, they are faced with a set of challenges in cloud management. However, previous researches have primarily focused on single cloud platform, with lack of efficient management of hybrid clouds. To bridge this gap, in this paper, we propose a distributed hybrid cloud management platform based on rule engine. We design a succinct rule model to define rules and events. Combined with a distributed and reliable architecture, the demands of batch processing, automatic operation could be met, which make it more flexible and efficient to manage cloud resources from multiple IaaS cloud providers.

Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Machine Learning (ML) are envisioned as possible techniques for the realization of a flexible and adaptive 5G network. ML will provide the network with experiential intelligence to forecast, adapt and recover from temporal network fluctuations. On the other hand, NFV will enable the deployment of slice instances meeting specific service requirements. Moreover, a single slice instance may require to be deployed across multiple substrate networks; however, existing works on multi-substrate Virtual Network Embedding fall short on addressing the realistic slice constraints such as delay, location, etc., hence they are not suited for applications transcending multiple domains. In this paper, we address the multi-substrate slicing problem in a coordinated manner, and we propose a Reinforcement Learning (RL) algorithm for partitioning the slice request to the different candidate substrate networks. Moreover, we consider realistic slice constraints such as delay, location, etc. Simulation results show that the RL approach results into a performance comparable to the combinatorial solution, with more than 99% of time saving for the processing of each request.

The millimeter wave communication is important for future wireless systems. In this paper, the channel characteristics at 28 GHz in an indoor scenario are researched based on ray tracing (RT) simulation and measurement. In the RT simulation, various configurations, such as different number of reflections, diffractions and penetrations are used. As for the measurement, two setups are implemented in order to analyze more parameters. Setup one is that biconical antennas are used at both the transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX). The other setup is that horn antenna at RX is rotated 360◦ in azimuth with a step of 5◦ when an omni-directional antenna located at TX. Meanwhile, antenna is rotated one circle with an elevation angle of 10◦, 0◦ and -10◦, respectively. Path loss and K-factor are analyzed firstly, and analysis results indicate the RT result with 1 or 2 reflections, 1 diffractions and 5 penetrations in this conference room is closest to the measurement result and channel models in 3GPP TR 38.901. Then, the root mean square (RMS) delay spread and RMS angular spread are investigated, which shows the value of measurement is a bit larger than RT because of the limitation of azimuth and elevation step. According to all the results, 1-2 reflections, 1 diffraction and 5 penetrations can be used in RT for future analysis of indoor scenario at 28 GHz. © Institution of Engineering and *** Rights Reserved.

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is a promising radio access technology for the 5G wireless systems. The core of NOMA is to support multiple users in the same resource block via power or code domain multiplexing, which provides great enhancement in spectrum efficiency and connectivity. Meanwhile, with the recent advance in self-interference (SI) cancelation techniques, full duplex (FD) wireless communication has become a feasible technology enabling radios to receive and transmit simultaneously. This article aims to investigate the combination of these two emerging technologies. At first, several typical scenarios and protocols are presented to illustrate the application of FD technique in NOMA systems. Then, a novel NOMA system with FD base stations (BSs) based on centralized radio access networks (C-RAN) is proposed. Furthermore, power allocation policies are discussed for the proposed scheme, and simulation results are provided to demonstrate its superiority. Finally, challenges and research opportunities of FD NOMA systems are also identified to stimulate the future research. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.
