Cognitive radio network is expected to solve the spectrum scarcity by enabling unlicensed secondary users (SUs) to opportunistically utilize the licensed spectrum unused by primary users (PUs). In this paper, we propose an optimal admission control scheme which maximizes the profit while guaranteeing QoS of the PUs. The profit maximization problem is formulated as a Semi-Markov Decision Process (SMDP) and its relevant components are derived. A Linear Programming (LP) algorithm is presented to obtain the optimal admission control policy. QoS provisioning for PUs is also considered by adding constraint to the SMDP formulation. Simulation results show that, the proposed optimal admission control scheme achieves more profit than the Complete Sharing and Threshold-based admission control scheme, and the blocking probability of PUs can be strictly constrained. © 2010 IEEE.

This paper considers optimizing the utilization of radio resources in a heterogeneous networks consisting of a WLAN and a CDMA network. We propose a joint admission control mechanism for multimedia traffic that exploits vertical handoff as an effective tool to enhance radio resource management while guaranteeing handoff user's QoS requirements. The network resources utilized by the vertical handoff user are captured by a link utility function. A signaling cost is used to model the signaling and processing load incurred when vertical handoff is performed. The performance of the joint admission control mechanism is analyzed based on the formulation of the admission control actions. Voice and data applications are considered in the performance evaluation, and the simulation results show that the proposed mechanism can efficiently relieve the congestion, balance the load and improve the overall network reward. © 2010 IEEE.

At present, the number of Internet subscribers accessing Internet through mobility terminal equipment and other new types is gradually increasing, which shows it's important to develop mobility management protocols in order to provide mobility support for the subscribers. Several protocols were proposed to support IP mobility in the IETF, such as MIPv6, HMIPv6, FMIPv6 and F-HMIPv6. Some performance analyses of the protocols have been made before, most of which are about the handover and signal load, etc. However, there is lack of performance evaluation from perspective of application. In this paper, we analyze and compare the handover latency and packet transmission delay of the real time application, and also the average throughput of the non-real time application with the four IP Mobility protocols. The simulation results show that with real time application, F-HMIPv6 has the least handover latency, and the four protocols have almost the same packet transmission delay. With the non-real time application, F-HMIPv6 has the largest throughput, followed by FMIPv6 and the other protocols. © 2010 IEEE.

Long registration delay and signaling cost restrict the practical deployment of MIP. Proxy Mobile IPv6 has been proposed to overcome limitation of Mobile IP, which can avoid tunneling overhead and support of hosts in the mobility management. In this paper, we propose an extension protocol based on Proxy Mobile IPv6 to reduce the overhead of Local Mobile Anchor and decrease handoff delay. When the MN is moving in a Registration Area(RA),current MAG directly sends redirection message to Primary MAG avoiding remote signaling cost to LMA. Analysis results demonstrate that our extension scheme reduces the overhead by decreasing the network signaling cost and optimizes handoff capability. © 2010 IEEE.

Nowadays, more and more photos are created by mobile devices equipped with camera. How to fast index and retrieve the photos is one key issue in photo management. In this paper, we present a semantic-based graph index for finding the relevant photos from one photo. First, we cluster photos into many different collections by single-dimension context like time, location, author and tag and form initial single-context photo clustering graphs. Second, we analyze the semantic relation of the context by semantic correlation to form single-context semantic relation graph. Third, we fuse the initial single-context photo clustering relation graph and single-context semantic relation graph into single-context photo semantic relation graph. Lastly, we combine the all single-context photo semantic relation graphs into a multi-dimensional photo semantic relation graph as indexing graph. The graph index method has been implemented in Kaleido Photo which is a photo-centric management system and test results show the method is efficient for photo indexing and retrieval. © 2010 IEEE.

An important function of online social networks (OSNs) is to help users find or add friends with common interests. In order to improve the quality of friends-searching results, a model for ranking these results is proposed in this paper with the introduction of two novel concepts named trust and popularity along with their calculation algorithm. The improved shortest path algorithm with the introduction of a threshold is used for computing the trust value in efficiency, and the page rank algorithm is used for solving the popularity value iteratively. Then the combination algorithm for these two values is performed to generate the final searching output. Experimental results show that this model can provide more satisfactory searching results for users, and provides wonderful supports for friend searching and friend recommendation in OSNs. This model has been deployed in “Scene Life”, a mobile social networking system of Nokia Research Center Beijing.

The Undulating Grey Model (UGM) can be used to predict internet traffic, and it performs better than other Grey Models upon multi-scale traffics. However, UGM employs frequency spectrum of the traffic and needs to select the most significant frequencies as the parameters, which is hard to be decided manually. In this paper, we introduce clustering methods to find the significant frequencies. We find the best modeling length based on different clustering groups. We also find the value of the best modeling length is relevant to the frequency spectrum. © 2010 IEEE.

The effect of multimedia conference system is the main factor influencing people's communication. In this article, we will try our best to enhance the quality of video effect and improve the efficiency of multimedia transmission. Through using high compression video codec (H.264), cutting the data at the sending part, catching and sorting the data at the receiving part, we can minimize the data of video, reduce the loss rate through network and improve the decoding rate at the receiving part. By using those methods, the software can acquire better real time and higher quality. © 2010 IEEE.

With the rapid development of Internet, it has become an essential infrastructure for communication today, while the IP layer has a poor ability in fast failure recovery, which impending the improving of the Internet performance. Concerned to the single link failure problems, this paper proposed a fast link failure recovery mechanism based on multi-topology. Firstly, by theoretical analysis, the number of the backup topology was determined with up to 3;Secondly, we also proposed to create the smallest similarity graphs as the backup topologies which is based on link vector similarity so than the router can switch to the backup link computed in advance to protect the failure in real time. Simulation results show that the shortest average path length obtained by our Multi-Topology(MT) algorithm has little difference with the Dijkstra algorithm, but is less than FIR(Failure Insensitive Routing), which exhibits a good performance. In addition, with the increasing of node degree, mathematical expectation and variance of the shortest average path difference between MT and Dijkstra remains a very small range that can be ignored. © 2010 IEEE.
