Core decomposition is a well-established graph mining problem with various applications that involves partitioning the graph into hierarchical subgraphs. Solutions to this problem have been developed using both bottom-up and top-down approaches from the perspective of vertex convergence dependency. However, existing algorithms have not effectively harnessed GPU performance to expedite core decomposition, despite the growing need for enhanced performance. Moreover, approaching performance limitations of core decomposition from two different directions within a parallel synchronization structure has not been thoroughly explored. This paper introduces an efficient GPU acceleration framework, PICO, for the Peel and Index2core paradigms of k-core decomposition. We propose PeelOne, a Peel-based algorithm designed to simplify the parallel logic and minimize atomic operations by eliminating vertices that are'under-core'. We also propose an Index2core-based algorithm, named HistoCore, which addresses the issue of extensive redundant computations across both vertices and edges. Extensive experiments on NVIDIA RTX 3090 GPU show that PeelOne outperforms all other Peel-based algorithms, and HistoCore outperforms all other Index2core-based algorithms. Furthermore, HistoCore even outperforms PeelOne by 1.1× ∼ 3.2× speedup on six datasets, which breaks the stereotype that the Index2core paradigm performs much worse than the Peel in a shared memory parallel setting. Usage: Uncertain Flow Graph and Spatio-Temporal Graph network-Based Saturation Attack Detection Method

With the development of software-Defined networking (SDN), its security problems have become important research content. Among these security problems, saturation attack is one of the most destructive problems. Saturation attacks can destroy SDN networks. Currently, neural graph networks have already been used for detecting saturation attacks in SDN. When constructing the graph based on K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm, the number of edges in the graph is fixed. That cannot reflect the different nodes’ relationship well. In addition, when using the Graph Convolutional network (GCN) to detect saturation attack against SDN, only a partial graph structure and node features will be learned, causing the flow graph nodes information cannot be fully utilized. To overcome these issues, in this work, we propose USAGE, an uncertain flow graph and spatio-temporal graph network-based saturation attack detection method. More specifically, USAGE designs the CRAM algorithm and EGG model. The CRAM algorithm is designed to generate an uncertain flow graph for each traffic flow, which can represent the uncertain relationship among different nodes. EGG is a spatio-temporal graph convolutional network model, which is proposed to detect saturation attacks towards SDN switches. The evaluation results demonstrate that USAGE can generate a better graph than KNN and achieve high detection performance. Meanwhile, USAGE outperforms other methods in terms of TPR, TNR, accuracy, precision, recall, F-score, confusion matrix, ROC curves, and PR curves. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

STDEN: Towards Physics-Guided Neural networks for Traffic Flow Prediction

High-performance traffic flow prediction model designing, a core technology of Intelligent Transportation System, is a long-standing but still challenging task for industrial and academic communities. The lack of integration between physical principles and data-driven models is an important reason for limiting the development of this field. In the literature, physics-based methods can usually provide a clear interpretation of the dynamic process of traffic flow systems but are with limited accuracy, while data-driven methods, especially deep learning with black-box structures, can achieve improved performance but can not be fully trusted due to lack of a reasonable physical basis. To bridge the gap between purely data-driven and physics-driven approaches, we propose a physics-guided deep learning model named Spatio- Temporal Differential Equation network (STDEN), which casts the physical mechanism of traffic flow dynamics into a deep neural network framework. Specifically, we assume the traffic flow on road networks is driven by a latent potential energy field (like water flows are driven by the gravity field), and model the spatio-temporal dynamic process of the potential energy field as a differential equation network. STDEN absorbs both the performance advantage of data-driven models and the interpretability of physics-based models, so is named a physics-guided prediction model. Experiments on three real-world traffic datasets in Beijing show that our model outperforms state-of-the-art baselines by a significant margin. A case study further verifies that STDEN can capture the mechanism of urban traffic and generate accurate predictions with physical meaning. We will make a brief introduction of the experimental methods and results of the WHU-NERCMS in the TRECVID2021 in the paper. This year we participate in the automatic and interactive tasks of Instance Search (INS). For the automatic task, the retrieval target is divided into two parts, person retrieval, and action retrieval. We adopt a two-stage method including face detection and face recognition for person retrieval and two kinds of action detection methods consisting of three frame-based human-object interaction detection methods and two video-based general action detection methods for action retrieval. After that, the person retrieval results and action retrieval results are fused to initialize the result ranking lists. In addition, we make attempts to use complementary methods to further improve search performance. For interactive tasks, we test two different interaction strategies on the fusion results. We submit 4 runs for automatic and interactive tasks respectively. The introduction of each run is shown in Table 1. Revisiting Token Dropping Strategy in Efficient BERT Pretraining

Token dropping is a recently-proposed strategy to speed up the pretraining of masked language models, such as BERT, by skipping the computation of a subset of the input tokens at several middle layers. It can effectively reduce the training time without degrading much performance on downstream tasks. However, we empirically find that token dropping is prone to a semantic loss problem and falls short in handling semantic-intense tasks (§2). Motivated by this, we propose a simple yet effective semantic-consistent learning method (SCTD) to improve the token dropping. SCTD aims to encourage the model to learn how to preserve the semantic information in the representation space. Extensive experiments on 12 tasks show that, with the help of our SCTD, token dropping can achieve consistent and significant performance gains across all task types and model sizes. More encouragingly, SCTD saves up to 57% of pretraining time and brings up to +1.56% average improvement over the vanilla token dropping. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

PMFSNet: Polarized Multi-scale Feature Self-attention network For Lightweight Medical Image Segmentation

Current state-of-the-art medical image segmentation methods prioritize accuracy but often at the expense of increased computational demands and larger model sizes. Applying these large-scale models to the relatively limited scale of medical image datasets tends to induce redundant computation, complicating the process without the necessary benefits. This approach not only adds complexity but also presents challenges for the integration and deployment of lightweight models on edge devices. For instance, recent transformer-based models have excelled in 2D and 3D medical image segmentation due to their extensive receptive fields and high parameter count. However, their effectiveness comes with a risk of overfitting when applied to small datasets and often neglects the vital inductive biases of Convolutional Neural networks (CNNs), essential for local feature representation. In this work, we propose PMFSNet, a novel medical imaging segmentation model that effectively balances global and local feature processing while avoiding the computational redundancy typical in larger models. PMFSNet streamlines the UNet-based hierarchical structure and simplifies the self-attention mechanism’s computational complexity, making it suitable for lightweight applications. It incorporates a plug-and-play PMFS block, a multi-scale feature enhancement module based on attention mechanisms, to capture long-term dependencies. Extensive comprehensive results demonstrate that even with a model (≤ 1 million parameters), our method achieves superior performance in various segmentation tasks across different data scales. It achieves (IoU) metrics of 84.68%, 82.02%, and 78.82% on public datasets of teeth CT (CBCT), ovarian tumors ultrasound(MMOTU), and skin lesions dermoscopy images (ISIC 2018), respectively. Spatial-Temporal Space Hand-in-Hand: Spatial-Temporal Video Super-Resolution via Cycle-Projected Mutual Learning

Spatial-Temporal Video Super-Resolution (ST-VSR) aims to generate super-resolved videos with higher resolution (HR) and higher frame rate (HFR). Quite intuitively, pioneering two-stage based methods complete ST-VSR by directly combining two sub-tasks: Spatial Video Super-Resolution (S-VSR) and Temporal Video Super-Resolution (T-VSR) but ignore the reciprocal relations among them. Specifically, 1) T-VSR to S-VSR: temporal correlations help accurate spatial detail representation with more clues;2) S-VSR to T-VSR: abundant spatial information contributes to the refinement of temporal prediction. To this end, we propose a one-stage based Cycle-projected Mutual learning network (CycMu-Net) for ST-VSR, which makes full use of spatial-temporal correlations via the mutual learning between S-VSR and T-VSR. Specifically, we propose to exploit the mutual information among them via iterative up-and-down projections, where the spatial and temporal features are fully fused and distilled, helping the high-quality video reconstruction. Besides extensive experiments on benchmark datasets, we also compare our proposed CycMu-Net with S-VSR and T-VSR tasks, demonstrating that our method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods. A High-Fidelity Virtual Liver Model Incorporating Biological Characteristics

Flexible tissue modeling plays an important role in the field of telemedicine. It is related to whether the soft tissue deformation process can be accurately, real-time and vividly simulated during surgery. However, most existing models lack the unique biological characteristics. To solve this problem, a high-fidelity virtual liver model incorporating biological characteristics, such as the viscoelastic, anisotropic and nonlinear biological characteristics, is proposed based on the finite element model. When simulating the resection of diseased livers, the model undergoes a plastic deformation process where the model loses elasticity due to excessive deformation, but does not reach the cutting fracture threshold. To improve the fidelity of the liver model, this study is the first to introduce the viscoplasticity of biological tissues to the liver model. The 3DMax2020 and OpenGL4.6 were used to build a liver surgery simulation platform, and the PHANTOM OMNI manual controller was used to sense the feedback force during the operation. The proposed model was verified from three aspects of accuracy, fidelity and real-time performance. The experimental results show that the proposed virtual liver model can enhance visual perception ability, improve deformation accuracy and fidelity. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Learning Self-Target Knowledge for Few-Shot Segmentation

Few-shot semantic segmentation uses a few annotated data of a specific class in the support set to segment the target of the same class in the query set. Most existing approaches fail to perform well when there are significant intra-class variances. This paper alleviates the problem by concentrating on mining the query image and using the support set as supplementary information. First, it proposes a Query Prototype Generation Module to generate a query foreground prototype from the query features. Specifically, we use both prototype-level and pixel-level similarity matching to generate two complementary initial prototypes, which we then integrate to create a discriminative query foreground prototype. Second, we propose a Support Auxiliary Refinement Module to further guide the final precise prediction of the query image by leveraging the target category information of the support set through step-by-step mining. Specifically, we generate a query-support mixture prototype based on the support prototype representation obtained using the attention mechanism. Then we generate a support supplement prototype to complement the missing information by encoding over the foreground regions that the query-support mixture prototype fails to segment out. Extensive experiments on PASCAL-5i and COCO-20i demonstrate that our model outperforms the prior works of few-shot segmentation. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
