A Late-Stage Bitemporal Feature Fusion Network for Semantic Change Detection

Semantic change detection is an important task in geoscience and earth observation. By producing a semantic change map for each temporal phase, both the land use land cover categories and change information can be interpreted. Recently some multi-task learning based semantic change detection methods have been proposed to decompose the task into semantic segmentation and binary change detection subtasks. However, previous works comprise triple branches in an entangled manner, which may not be optimal and hard to adopt foundation models. Besides, lacking explicit refinement of bitemporal features during fusion may cause low accuracy. In this letter, we propose a novel late-stage bitemporal feature fusion network to address the issue. Specifically, we propose local global attentional aggregation module to strengthen feature fusion, and propose local global context enhancement module to highlight pivotal semantics. Comprehensive experiments are conducted on two public datasets, including SECOND and Landsat-SCD. We study the statistical properties of observables of scale-free networks in the degree-thresholding renormalization (DTR) flows. For BA scale-free networks with different sizes, we find that their structural and dynamical observables have similar scaling behavior in the DTR flow. The finite-size scaling analysis confirms this view and reveals a scaling function with a single scaling exponent that collectively captures the changes of these observables. Furthermore, for the scale-free network with a single initial size, we use its DTR snapshots as the original networks in the DTR flows, then perform a similar finite-size scaling analysis. Interestingly, the initial network and its snapshots share the same scaling exponent as the BA synthetic network. Our findings have important guiding significance for analyzing the structure and dynamic behavior of large-scale networks. Such as, in large-scale simulation scenarios with high time complexity, the DTR snapshot could serve as a substitute or guide for the initial network and then quickly explore the scaling behavior of initial networks. © 2021, CC BY.

High-resolution (HR) image harmonization is of great significance in real-world applications such as image synthesis and image editing. However, due to the high memory costs, existing dense pixel-to-pixel harmonization methods are mainly focusing on processing low-resolution (LR) images. Some recent works resort to combining with color-to-color transformations but are either limited to certain resolutions or heavily depend on hand-crafted image filters. In this work, we explore leveraging the implicit neural representation (INR) and propose a novel image Harmonization method based on Implicit neural Networks (HINet), which to the best of our knowledge, is the first dense pixel-to-pixel method applicable to HR images without any handcrafted filter design. Inspired by the Retinex theory, we decouple the MLPs into two parts to respectively capture the content and environment of composite images. A Low-Resolution image Prior (LRIP) network is designed to alleviate the Boundary Inconsistency problem, and we also propose new designs for the training and inference process. Extensive experiments have demonstrated the effectiveness of our method compared with state-of-the-art methods. Intensive task-oriented repetitive physical therapies provided by individualized interaction between the patient and a rehabilitation specialist can improve hand motor performance in patients survived from stroke and traumatic brain injury. However, the therapy process is long and expensive and difficult to evaluate quantitatively and objectively. The goal of this research is to develop a novel wearable device for robotic assisted hand repetitive therapy. We designed a pneumatic muscle (PM) driven therapeutic device that is wearable and provides assistive forces required for grasping and release movements. The robot has two distinct degrees of freedom at the thumb and the fingers. The embedded sensors feedback position and force information for robot control and quantitative evaluation of task performance. It has the potential of providing supplemental at-home therapy in addition to in the clinic treatment.

This paper presents an integration of nonlinear disturbance observer within proxy-based sliding mode control (IDO-PSMC) approach for Pneumatic Muscle Actuators (PMAs). Due to the nonlinearities, uncertainties, hysteresis, and timevarying characteristics of the PMA, the model parameters are difficult to be identified accurately, which results in unmeasurable uncertainties and disturbances of the system. To solve this problem, a novel design of proxy-based sliding mode controller (PSMC) combined with a nonlinear disturbance observer (DO) is used for the tracking control of the PMA. Our approach combines both the merits of the PSMC and the DO so that it is effective in both reducing the "chattering" phenomeno n and improving the system robustness. A constrained Firefly Algorithm is used to search for the optimal control parameters. Based on the Lyapunov theorem, the states of the PMA are shown to be globally uniformly ultimately bounded. In this paper, a unique road contour extraction approach from high resolution satellite image is proposed, in which the road contour was extracted in two steps. Firstly, support vector machines (SVM) was employed merely to classify the image into two groups of categories: a road group and a non-road group. The identified road group images are the discrete and irregularly distributed sampled points, and they are an uncompleted data set for the road. Secondly, the road contour was extracted from the road group images using the tensor voting framework, since the tensor voting technique is superior to the traditional methods in extracting the geometrical structure from the uncompleted data set. The experimental results on the high resolution satellite image demonstrate that the proposed approach worked well with images comprised by both rural and urban area features.

Temporal image analysis in remote sensing has traditionally centered on change detection, which identifies regions of change between images captured at different times. However, change detection remains limited by its focus on visual-level interpretation, often lacking contextual or descriptive information. The rise of Vision-Language Models (VLMs) has introduced a new dimension to remote sensing temporal image analysis by integrating visual information with natural language, creating an avenue for advanced interpretation of temporal image changes. Remote Sensing Temporal VLMs (RSTVLMs) allow for dynamic interactions, generating descriptive captions, answering questions, and providing a richer semantic understanding of temporal images. This temporal vision-language capability is particularly valuable for complex remote sensing applications, where higher-level insights are crucial. This paper comprehensively reviews the progress of RSTVLM research, with a focus on the latest VLM applications for temporal image analysis. We categorize and discuss core methodologies, datasets, and metrics, highlight recent advances in temporal vision-language tasks, and outline key challenges and future directions for research in this emerging field. This survey fills a critical gap in the literature by providing an integrated overview of RSTVLM, offering a foundation for further advancements in remote sensing temporal image understanding. An efficient image denoising algorithm is introduced. Firstly, image pixels are classified into noisy pixels and noise-free pixels by four directional operators. Then an adaptive weighted median filter is designed to remove and restore the detected noisy pixels and keep the noise-free ones unchanged. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm preserves image details well while removing impulsive noise efficiently, and its filtering performance is significantly superior to the classical median filter and some other typical and recently developed improved median filters.

Eye movement is closely related to limb actions, so it can be used to infer movement intentions. More importantly, in some cases, eye movement is the only way for paralyzed and impaired patients with severe movement disorders to communicate and interact with the environment. Despite this, eye-tracking technology still has very limited application scenarios as an intention recognition method. The goal of this paper is to achieve a natural fixation-based grasping intention recognition method, with which a user with hand movement disorders can intuitively express what tasks he/she wants to do by directly looking at the object of interest. Toward this goal, we design experiments to study the relationships of fixations in different tasks. We propose some quantitative features from these relationships and analyze them statistically. Then we design a natural method for grasping intention recognition. The experimental results prove that the accuracy of the proposed method for the grasping intention recognition exceeds 89% on the training objects. When this method is extendedly applied to objects not included in the training set, the average accuracy exceeds 85%.
