OFDM is promising for underwater acoustic (UWA) communications due to its potential to combat the large delay spread. However, the performance of the OFDM system is seriously deteriorated by the inter-carrier interference (ICI) caused by the transmitter/receiver motion and ocean waves. In this paper, we propose a novel ICI countermeasure. The key idea is to inactivate partial subcarriers according to index modulation and meanwhile transmit signals with opposite polarity on two adjacent active subcarriers for ICI self cancellation. Simulation results validate that the proposed scheme achieves much better bit error rate (BER) performance than many existing schemes in UWA communications.

In order to verify the vibration resistance feasibility of the Stewart platform with a flexible base platform in the feed cabin support system of FAST(Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope), this paper presents a scheme on the implementation of the reduced scale Stewart platform model of FAST. A vibration suppressing control algorithm is given, and the experiments related were conducted. The results show that the system is capable of suppressing normal vibrations.

Pose variation is one of the challenging factors for face recognition. In this paper, we propose a novel cross-pose face recognition method named as Regularized Latent Least Square Regression (RLLSR). The basic assumption is that the images captured under different poses of one person can be viewed as pose-specific transforms of a single ideal object. We treat the observed images as regressor, the ideal object as response, and then formulate this assumption in the least square regression framework, so as to learn the multiple pose-specific transforms. Specifically, we incorporate some prior knowledge as two regularization terms into the least square approach: 1) the smoothness regularization, as the transforms for nearby poses should not differ too much;2) the local consistency constraint, as the distribution of the latent ideal objects should preserve the geometric structure of the observed image space. We develop an alternating algorithm to simultaneously solve for the ideal objects of the training individuals and a set of pose-specific transforms. The experimental results on the Multi-PIE dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and superiority over the previous methods.

This paper presents observer-based fuzzy control for nonlinear fractional-order systems with the fractional order α satisfying 1 < α < 2 via fuzzy T-S models. Using the properties of the Kronecker product and LMI approach, the feedback and observer gain matrices are designed. By this method, the state of nonlinear system described as the fuzzy T-S model is convergent to the equilibrium and the observer error is convergent to zero. Finally, the simulation result of a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of this method.

In the past decade, adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) has been widely used to realize online learning tracking control of dynamical systems, where neural networks with manually designed features are commonly used. In order to improve the generalization capability and learning efficiency of ADP, this paper presents a novel framework of ADP with sparse kernel machines by integrating kernel methods and approximately linear dependence (ALD) analysis into the critic module of ADP for the optimal tracking controller design. An ADP algorithm based on sparse kernel learning and heuristic dynamic programming (HDP) is proposed, that is, kernel HDP (KHDP). Based on KHDP, an experiment is established. By simulation, the effectiveness of proposed algorithm is demonstrated.

A docking approach for child robot suitable for marsupial robot was designed in this paper. The mother robot obtained the posture of child robot relative to the docking entrance by visual perception to instruct the child robot. In each of left, right and back sides of child robot, there was a color symbol with two colors arranged vertically. The mother robot extracted the color borderline of each symbol it observed in a way of connection growing, and then the position information of corresponding color symbol in image as well as the length ratio could be acquired to guide the motion of child robot. Finally, the child robot entered the docking station in an appropriate posture. This approach was verified by experimental results.
