The discrete weld seam feature points acquired in the course of arc-welding robot's teaching can not be used to control robot's movement, while a continuous curve which describes weld seam's space position is suitable for guiding the welding process. So an interpolation-point cubic parametric spline method is proposed to fit a 3D weld seam. Weld seam feature points should be analysed in order to estimate the linearity of local weld seam, the value of interpolation points within nonlinear weld seam may be evaluated by quadratic function interpolation. Experiment result indicates that even if the feature points are sparse, the fitted curve may pass through all feature points precisely and there is no disturbance between adjacent feature points.

Initial point location and seam tracking are two main functions of intelligent welding robots. According to the features of the butt seams in container manufacture, this paper presents a novel initial point location using the geometric relationship between two seams. An image-based visual seam tracking control method is proposed, which is based on the target and current image features of the seams. The target image feature is corrected in the welding process to compensate the curve of the tracking rails. The experiments are well conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods. The new systems can be applied in the real welding tasks.

To further enhance emergency management skills of an organisation's emergency response personnel, emergency response training, especially 3D emergency drill, is currently becoming more and more important in the petrochemical sector. So, a novel 3D emergency drills system is designed and developed based on ACP approach, which can be used for mocking emergency response plan drills and evaluating the plan. To enhance classification performance by making use of easily available unlabelled data to overcome the scarcity of labelled data, this paper proposes an Embedded Co-Adaboost algorithm that integrates multi-view learning into the Adaboost learning framework and at the same time leverages the advantages of Co-training algorithm for performance enhancement. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in terms of the convergence rate, the accuracy, and the steady performance as compared to the original AdaBoost algorithm, without relying on redundant and sufficient feature sets. As a algorithm application in software engineering, the Embedded Co-AdaBoost has been applied to the classification of software document relations to improve the quality of the architecture design documents and the reusability of design knowledge.

Information entropy based criteria are analyzed and the Normalized Mutual Information(NMI) that is presented in the field of image registration is revised to Normalized Mutual Information Entropy (NMIE) to meet the need of the evaluation of image fusion algorithms, Then, through analysis to NMIE and some human perception based criteria, and by analyzing the essence of image fusion techniques systematically, a new index, Normalized Perception Mutual Information (NPMI), is defined in view of information transmission as well as edge preservation, and is used to evaluate the performance of image fusion algorithms, The experiments are done to three groups of images, namely, the remote sensing images corrupted by noises, the multifocus images and the medical images obtained by CT and MRI, respectively. Compared with other indices including the root mean square error (RMSE), space frequncy (SF), space visibility (SV), entropy, the collective cross entropy (CCE), information deviation (ID), and the edge information preservation value (EIPV), etc., NPMI is shown to be the only one that is effective in all the eases in the evaluation of the performances of the fused images or the image fusion algorithms, which illustrates the feasibility and effectiveness of the presented algorithm.

The paper discusses two important classification techniques, Fisher's linear discriminated analysis (FLDA) and Support Vector Machine (SVM). First, we propose a theoretical discussion, and then implement FLDA and SVM on several datasets of two classes and multiclass, a comparative experimental analysis among these two techniques aims at exploring and assessing the performance of FLDA and SVM classifiers. To sustain such analysis, the two classification techniques are compared with different training data sets and testing data sets. Different performance indicators have been used to support our experimental studies in a detailed and accurate way such as the classification accuracy. The results obtained on different datasets conclude that FLDA and SVM are valid and effective approaches for pattern classification and conclude their different performance and problems with different size datasets. Meanwhile, the paper employs a non-traditional method to get the training and testing data set, and concludes detailed pros and cons from the experiment results.

For a freeway traffic system with strict repeatable pattern, iterative learning control (ILC) has been successfully applied to local ramp metering for a macroscopic freeway environment by formulating the original ramp metering problem as an output tracking, disturbance rejection, and error compensation problem. In this paper, we address the freeway traffic ramp-metering system under a nonstrict repeatable pattern. ILC-based ramp metering and ILC add-on to ALINEA strategies are modified to deal with the presence of iteration-dependent parameters, iteration-dependent desired trajectory, and input constraints. Theoretical analysis and extensive simulations are used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approaches.
