Conservative-Progressive Collaborative Learning for Semi-Supervised Semantic Segmentation

Pseudo supervision is regarded as the core idea in semi-supervised learning for semantic segmentation, and there is always a tradeoff between utilizing only the high-quality pseudo labels and leveraging all the pseudo labels. Addressing that, we propose a novel learning approach, called Conservative-Progressive Collaborative Learning (CPCL), among which two predictive networks are trained in parallel, and the pseudo supervision is implemented based on both the agreement and disagreement of the two predictions. One network seeks common ground via intersection supervision and is supervised by the high-quality labels to ensure a more reliable supervision, while the other network reserves differences via union supervision and is supervised by all the pseudo labels to keep exploring with curiosity. Thus, the collaboration of conservative evolution and progressive exploration can be achieved. To reduce the influences of the suspicious pseudo labels, the loss is dynamic re-weighted according to the prediction confidence. Extensive experiments demonstrate that CPCL achieves state-of-the-art performance for semi-supervised semantic segmentation. © 1992-2012 IEEE.

Decomposing Visual and Semantic Correlations for Both Fully Supervised and Few-Shot Image Classification

Most image classification methods are designed to either boost the classification accuracies with abundant supervision, or cope with the shortage of supervision information. This is often achieved by using the visual and semantic information of other sources. However, these methods use the visual and semantic information within the same class independently, leaving their intrinsic correlations unconsidered. Objects and disturbing components as well as noise exist on the same image. Besides, semantic representations also contain noisy information. To solve the problems mentioned above, we propose a novel method for both fully supervised image classification and few-shot image classification by decomposing visual and semantic correlations. We jointly explore the intrinsic correlations of visual and semantic information of images within the same class. For each class, we decompose its visual and semantic correlations using low-rank and sparse constraint respectively. The decomposed low-rank parts character the intrinsic correlations of images can be used in a linear transformation way. Using the decomposed parts of each class, Classification can be achieved by reconstruction error minimization. We conduct experiments on several datasets for both fully supervised image classification and few-shot image classification. Experimental results well show the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2020 IEEE.

A probe into the acid deposition mitigation path in China over the last four decades and beyond

China currently has the highest acid deposition globally, yet research on its status, impacts, causes and controls is lacking. Here, we compiled data and calculated critical loads regarding acid deposition. The results showed that the abatement measures in China have achieved a sharp decline in the emissions of acidifying pollutants and a continuous recovery of precipitation p H, despite the drastic growth in the economy and energy consumption. However, the risk of ecological acidification and eutrophication showed no significant decrease. With similar emission reductions, the decline in areas at risk of acidification in China(7.0%) lags behind those in Europe(20%) or the USA(15%). This was because, unlike Europe and the USA, China's abatement strategies primarily target air quality improvement rather than mitigating ecological impacts. Given that the area with the risk of eutrophication induced by nitrogen deposition remained at 13%of the country even under the scenario of achieving the dual targets of air quality and carbon dioxide mitigation in 2035, we explored an enhanced ammonia abatement pathway. With a further 27% reduction in ammonia by 2035, China could largely eliminate the impacts of acid deposition. This research serves as a valuable reference for China's future acid deposition control and for other nations facing similar challenges.

With the aim of 2-AMT electric vehicles, a comprehensive shift schedule that considers both power and economy is proposed. First, the objective function of the comprehensive shift schedule is constructed, which is the weighted sum of vehicle acceleration time and vehicle power consumption per unit distance. Second, Sparrow Search Algorithm is used to solve the objective function and obtain the comprehensive shift schedule. Finally, AVL Cruise simulation software is used to simulate vehicle dynamics and economy under an NEDC. The results show that the comprehensive shift schedule is similar to the optimal power shift schedule in terms of dynamic performance, and the economy is optimized by 3%. The feasibility of the comprehensive shift schedule is verified. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of automation.

Accurate epidemic forecasting is imperative in light of the increasing global threat posed by epidemic diseases. Presently, researchers predominantly approach this challenge as a time-series prediction task and have proposed a variety of effective methodologies. However, two critical issues deserve thorough consideration. Firstly, the transmission of infectious diseases is a profoundly intricate process influenced by a multitude of factors, encompassing complex dynamics and propagation mechanisms. In contrast to the multifaceted nature of real-world scenarios, prevailing modeling approaches often exhibit undue simplification, resulting in imprecision and a deficit of interpretability. Secondly, existing methodologies excessively rely on data and require substantial adaptation for new infectious disease scenarios. The endeavor to conduct rapid and precise simulations and predictions during the early stages of transmission is challenging due to limited data availability. Thus, we aim to explore the feasibility and effective strategies of leveraging multi-modal pre-trained technology for epidemic forecasting. This approach offers the potential to comprehensively grasp the transmission process from multi-view perspectives and acquire richer representations by integrating multi-modal data. Moreover, through pre-trained, this methodology captures overarching patterns and principles of infectious disease transmission, facilitating swift and accurate predictions via fine-tuning, particularly in scenarios of sparse early-stage transmission data. We discuss the prospects of multi-modal pre-trained models in epidemic forecasting and provide feasible strategies for constructing the model. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

The combined control of variable speed and variable displacement is a new type of volume control with high efficiency and fast response. However, due to the inherent nonlinearity of multiplication, it brings certain difficulties to the control. The electric double-variable pump[1] is a dual-input single-output system, and it is a nonlinear system[2]. It is necessary to linearize the system or use a nonlinear control method to control and solve the control problem of the system. In this paper, an intelligent control rule is proposed for the nonlinear problem of double input and single output. Through backstepping design[3], the nonlinear system is transformed into multiple linear subsystems. Then the original system is turned into two independent subsystems with single input and single output, which are controlled separately. The co-simulation platform based on AMESIM and Simulink[4] has been verified and compared with a single PID control algorithm to simulate the step response and sinusoidal tracking performance of the system. The results show that the response speed of the system has been greatly improved. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of automation.

A Multimodal Emotion Perception model with Audio and Visual modalities(MEP-AV) is proposed to detect the individual emotions in public *** framework of MEP-AV model consists of four parts,i.e.,data collection module,audio expression analysis module,visual expression analysis module and multimodal fusion *** order to ensure that the emotion perception results meet the requirement of short-term continuity,a Context-Aware Decision-Level Fusion(CADLF) model is proposed and applied in multimodal fusion *** CADLF model estimates the affective status by using context information of multimodal *** short-term continuity is considered to improve the accuracy of the emotion perception *** experiment results evaluated by various metrics demonstrate that the performance of the multimodal structure is improved compared with that of unimodal emotion *** MEP-AV model using multimodal fusion algorithm provides the accuracies of70.89% and 77.07% in valence and arousal *** F1-scores reaches 70.2% and 75.6% respectively,indicating the boost performance on emotion perception.
