Experimental and simulation research on the influence of voltage amplitude,frequency and carrier gas flow rate on the performance of FAIMS

A micro sensor chip of High-field Asymmetric Waveform Ion Mobility Spectrometry(FAIMS) was designed and fabricated by inductively coupled plasma(ICP) etching on the both sides of silicon and double silicon-glass bonding,with dimensions of 18.8 mm×12.4 mm×*** sample ions were created at ambient pressure by VUV lamp ion source,which was equipped with a 10.6 eV photo discharge lamp(λ=116.5 nm).The 2-pentanone was adopted to illustrate the influences of high-field rectangular asymmetric waveform voltage amplitude,frequency and carrier gas flow rate on the performance of FAIMS sensor *** experiment results showed that with the frequency or carrier gas flow rate increasing,or voltage amplitude decreasing,the FAIMS sensitivity increases,and that the resolution decreases with the increasing of the frequency or flow *** FAIMS simulation results based on the SIMION software was in agreement with the experimental *** FAIMS detection sensitivity experiment showed that the FAIMS sensor chip can detect positive and negative ions simultaneously,and has detection sensitivity as low as 0.1 ppm for acetic acid.

This paper proposes a robust control scheme that prevents an autonomous 4WS4WD vehicle from lane departure and wheel skidding in presence of road curvature and aerodynamic drag. The control objectives can be specified as various closed-loop specifications, such as lane keeping, wheel slip constraint and disturbance attenuation. An LMI approach is used to deal with these objectives simultaneously, which combines the quadratic stabilization technique with constraints on inputs. Simulation results show that the proposed controller effectively limits the combined wheel slip and improves the lane keeping performance.

This paper investigates parameter adaptation in Statistical Machine Translation(SMT). To overcome the parameter bias-estimation problem with Minimum Error Rate Training(MERT), we extend it under a transductive learning framework, by iteratively re-estimating the parameters using both development and test data, in which the translation hypotheses of the test data are used as pseudo references. Furthermore, in order to overcome the over-training and unstableness problems respectively in employing such pseudo references, a termination criterion using a hyper-parameter and a Minimum Bayes Risk(MBR)-based hypothesis selection method are proposed in our work. Experimental results show that the transductive MERT method could yield significant performance improvements over a strong baseline on a large-scale Chinese-to-English translation task. © 2011 AFNLP

Abstract WS-BPEL processes can facilitate service discovery when the services have multiple interfaces in certain order. Current approaches derive the abstract WS-BPEL processes directly from the corresponding executable ones by hiding or omitting the internal activities. However, these simple approaches may prevent the services from being found by valuable potential partners at service discovery stage. To address this problem, we propose a novel approach to refactoring the executable and abstract WS-BPEL processes for service discovery. We show the application of our approach through a typical travel agency service. © 2011 IEEE.

Service composition is an effective way to build complex Web service applications. However, it is a challenge to handle failure recovery due to the uncertainty of service in distributed and heterogeneous environment. This paper proposes an approach to handling failure recovery in service composition. Petri nets are used to model the different components of service composition, failure recovery rules and service selection strategies are given. Based on these, aspect-orientation is used to weave failure recovery concern into service composition, which includes failure warning concern, service selection concern and recovery concern, the weaving mechanism dynamically integrates these schemas into a failure recovery model. The operation semantics and related theories of Petri nets help prove its effectiveness and correctness. A case study and experimental results demonstrate the approach can simplify the failure recovery process, and improve the design quality of service composition. © 2011 IEEE.

The large volume principle proposed by Vladimir Vapnik, which advocates that hypotheses lying in an equivalence class with a larger volume are more preferable, is a useful alternative to the large margin principle. In this paper, we introduce a clustering model based on the large volume principle called maximum volume clustering (MVC), and propose two algorithms to solve it approximately: a soft-label and a hard-labelMVC algorithms based on sequential quadratic programming and semi-definite programming, respectively. Our MVC model includes spectral clustering and maximum margin clustering as special cases, and is substantially more general. We also establish the finite sample stability and an error bound for soft-label MVC method. Experiments show that the proposed MVC approach compares favorably with state-of-the-art clustering algorithms. Copyright 2011 by the authors.

A real-time monitor and rescue system must be able to both quickly and reliably detect the event happening in its monitoring region. Furthermore, it is required to fulfill certain rescue mission, e.g., navigate victims to exit through safe path in case of emergency. Current monitor and rescue approaches generally rely on either teleoperated robots, or teams of wireless robots. Typically the robots used in these systems tend to have high cost which make them unpractical in large scale deployment and applications. In this work, we present a realtime monitor and rescue system, TelosW-Bot Net, utilizing integrated networks. The integrated network is an integration of stationary sensor networks and robots: static sensor networks comprised of large numbers of small, simple, and inexpensive wireless sensors, and the robots which can communicate and controlled by sensor nodes. We demonstrate the efficacy of our system in real test bed composed of 46 sensors, which is one of the largest robotic sensor network to our knowledge, providing empirical results. © 2011 IEEE.

Users usually have different prospective even they input a same keyword to search Web services. It is a challenge to personalize web service search engine as more and more keyword-like Web services becoming available on Internet. User interest plays an important role in personalizing search result. Therefore, through interest extraction, Web service search engine is personalized. At last, an experiment is presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the method. © 2011 IEEE.

For services that have similar functionalities, if they are published by different cloud platforms, it is a challenge to evaluate them, for satisfying different end users' personal preferences. In view of this challenge, a method for web service ranking, named WSRank, is investigated in cloud environment in this paper. It aims at ranking different Web services published by different cloud platforms, taking advantage of Page Rank principle. At last, a case study and experiment are presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the method. © 2011 IEEE.
