An efficient and configurable computational platform is indispensable in order to meet multiple wireless communications standards. We have developed a heterogeneous reconfigurable architecture to support the arithmetic, logic and signal processing functions which are required for transceivers used in standardized wireless local area networks. Each execution unit in this reconfigurable architecture focuses on a certain general operation, so that the combination of them can complete the various algorithms. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach through an implementation of the baseband of IEEE 802.11a/b/g standards and evaluate its performance.

With the continued development of RFID technology, a large number of RFID tags are being deployed having different protocols. Hence, a multiprotocol interrogator which can support all of these alternatives has become a design requirement for many systems. While multifunction capability may be implemented using a high performance DSP, CPU or FPGA, those solutions have a large area cost, so an innovative architecture is needed. Starting from an analysis of the algorithms in RFID systems, we propose a reconfigurable architecture for baseband processing to realize the various protocols in the ISO18000 standard. The structure has been specifically designed to support all of the functions needed, so that it performs very efficiently with low area cost. This design has been post-layout simulated with a clock frequency of up to 83 MHz, and the core area is 4 mm 2 in a UMC 0.18 mum CMOS process. Compared with other existing processors, the proposed architecture is much more efficient for this application area.

Nanosized zeolites as a novel absorbent were investigated targeting for the nerve agent sarin stimulant gas DMMP. Quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) gas sensors modified with Silicalite-1 or Cu-ZSM-5 zeolites synthesized as micro-porous absorbents were fabricated and their gas response characteristics were examined to study the absorption capability of zeolites. The results indicated that Cu-ZSM-5 zeolite has stronger absorption capacity than Silicalite-1 due to the affinity between Cu 2+ and DMMP. Within our experimental conditions, when desorption temperature is 523 K and desorption time is 30 minutes, the Cu-ZSM-5 zeolite not only have optimum desorption properties, also have good repeatability. Compared with Silicalite-1, Cu-ZSM-5 zeolite is a preferable absorption material for chemical warfare agent detection and it also can present a good selective and repeating ability.

Capacitor composed of single crystalline Gd2O3 on Si(100) with Pt top electrode was fabricated by Molecular Beam Epitaxy. We present a systematic study of electrical properties of as-grown single crystalline Pt/Gd2O3/Si(100). Three capacitors with different thickness are used for electrical evaluation. The EOT of the samples are estimated to be 0.7 nm, 1.2 nm and 1.8 nm respectively. Work function of Pt on Gd2O3 is pinned at 4.75 eV and due to the lattice mismatch between Gd2O3, the interface state density is in the level of 1013 extracted by Terman and conductance methods.

Fast analysis of power grid networks has been a challenging problem for many years. The huge size renders circuit simulation inefficient and the large number of inputs further limits the application of existing Krylov-subspace macromodeling algorithms. However, strong locality has been observed that two nodes geometrically far have very small electrical impact on each other because of the exponential attenuation. However, no systematic approaches have been proposed to exploit such locality. In this paper, we propose a novel modeling and simulation scheme, which can automatically identify the dominant inputs for a given observed node in a power grid network. This enables us to build extremely compact models by projecting the system onto the locally dominant Krylov subspace corresponding to those dominant inputs only. The resulting simulation can be very fast with the compact models if we only need to view the responses of a few nodes under many different inputs. Experimental results show that the proposed method can have at least 100X speedup over SPICE-like simulations on a number of large power grid networks up to 1 M nodes.

In this paper, we propose an Adaptive Stochastic Collocation Method for block-based Statistical Static Timing Analysis (SSTA). A novel adaptive method is proposed to perform SSTA with delays of gates and interconnects modeled by quadratic polynomials based on Homogeneous Chaos expansion. In order to approximate the key atomic operator MAX in the full random space during timing analysis, the proposed method adaptively chooses the optimal algorithm from a set of stochastic collocation methods by considering different input conditions. Compared with the existing stochastic collocation methods, including the one using dimension reduction technique and the one using Sparse Grid technique, the proposed method has 10x improvements in the accuracy while using the same order of computation time. The proposed algorithm also show great improvement in accuracy compared with a moment matching method. Compared with the 10,000 Monte Carlo simulations on ISCAS85 benchmark circuits, the results of the proposed method show less than 1% error in the mean and variance, and nearly 100x speeds up.

High density Al2O3/TaN-based metal-insulatormetal capacitors in application to radio equency integrated circuits

Metal-insulator-metal （MIM） capacitors with atomic-layer-deposited Al2O3 dielectric and reactively sputtered TaN electrodes in application to radio frequency integrated circuits have been characterized electrically. The capacitors exhibit a high density of about 6.05 fF/μm^2, a small leakage current of 4.8 × 10^-8 A/cm^2 at 3 V, a high breakdown electric field of 8.61 MV/cm as well as acceptable voltage coefficients of capacitance （VCCs） of 795 ppm/V2 and 268ppm/V at 1 MHz. The observed properties should be attributed to high-quality Al2O3 film and chemically stable TaN electrodes. Further, a logarithmically linear relationship between quadratic VCC and frequency is observed due to the change of relaxation time with carrier mobility in the dielectric. The conduction mechanism in the high field ranges is dominated by the Poole-Frenkel emission, and the leakage current in the low field ranges is likely to be associated with trap-assisted tunnelling. Meanwhile, the Al2O3 dielectric presents charge trapping under low voltage stresses, and defect generation under high voltage stresses, and it has a hard-breakdown performance.

Solving SAT problem by heuristic polarity decision-making algorithm

This paper presents a heuristic polarity decision-making algorithm for solving Boolean satisfiability （SAT）. The algorithm inherits many features of the current state-of-the-art SAT solvers, such as fast BCP, clause recording, restarts, etc. In addition, a preconditioning step that calculates the polarities of variables according to the cover distribution of Karnaugh map is introduced into DPLL procedure, which greatly reduces the number of conflicts in the search process. The proposed approach is implemented as a SAT solver named DiffSat. Experiments show that DiffSat can solve many ＂real-life＂ instances in a reasonable time while the best existing SAT solvers, such as Zchaff and MiniSat, cannot. In particular, DiffSat can solve every instance of Bart benchmark suite in less than 0.03 s while Zchaff and MiniSat fail under a 900 s time limit. Furthermore, DiffSat even outperforms the outstanding incomplete algorithm DLM in some instances.

Analog circuit sizing under process/parameter variations is formulated as a mini-max geometric programming problem. To tackle such problem, we present a new method that combines the ellipsoid method and affine arithmetic. Affine arithmetic is not only used for keeping tracks of variations and correlations, but also helps to determine the sub-gradient at each iteration of the ellipsoid method. An example of designing a CMOS operational amplifier is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Finally numerical results are verified by SPICE simulation.

Electrical properties and phase structures of （Si＋N）-codoped Oe2Sb2Te5 （GST） for phase change memory are investigated to improve the memory performance. Compared to the films with N or Si dopants only in previous reports, the （Si＋N）-doped GST has a remarkable improvement of crystalline resistivity of about 104mΩcm. The Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy spectrum reveals the Si-N bonds formation in the film. X-ray diffraction patterns show that the grain size is reduced due to the crystallization inhibition of the amorphous GST by SiNx, which results in higher crystalline resistivity. This is very useful to reduce writing current for phase change memory applications.
