The diffractive field distributions of the dark edge on the negative, the edge of the knife and the single edge of the wire were investigated using photo-multiplier system. The results show that the new diffractive formula with the parameters describing the property of the edge of the diffractive object should be established and that the property of the object may be realized by the investigation of the weak diffractive field distribution of the object.

A new dynamic routing algorithm based on the blocking nodes was presented for the wavelength routing opticalnetworks (WRON) consisting of partial-shared wavelength converter (PWC). Instead of sharing the complicated information of wavelength converting, it takes the blocking characteristics of each node into consideration in the routing process. To estimate the algorithm, we do the emulation in the 14-nodes national science fund net-work (NSFNET).The result shows that the performance of the blocking probability as well as the probability of setting up failure has been improved greatly and can be improved even greater when the network is in low load.

The direct fourth harmonic generation (FHG) is theoretically demonstrated based on quasi-phase-matching (QPM) configuration in periodically poled lithium tantalate (PPLT). The wavelength dependence of the period of FHG QPM gratings is calculated. Bandwidths of fundamental wavelength, temperature, and incident angle are also studied. A very wide bandwidth, as large as 119.5 nm, of fundamental wavelength near 3699 nm is found with the QPM period of 9.442 μm and the crystal length of 1 cm.

Furthermore, the tensor components, both r13 and r33, of EO coefficient can be measured simultaneously.

Shanghai Jiaotong University Shanghai 200030 method of measuring vibration by using fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and demodulating the spectrum by blazed grating is introduced. The sensor system is made of a simple supported beam with a FBG adhered to its upper surface. A blazed grating is used to demodulate the changing spectrum that is got from the sensor system and a line charge-coupled device (CCD) is used to accept the diffraction spectrum. Through analyzing the number of the CCD's pixels we can get the amplitude of vibration and the change of the temperature. The experimental results show that the vibration amplitude of the exciter matches the detected signal under the stable frequency. The temperature shift and vibration signal are also successfully separated.

We theoretically propose a nonperiodic optical superlattice (NOS), in which multiple nonlinear optical parametric processes can be realized simultaneously. The optimal design of the NOS structure is achieved by the combination of stimulated annealing (SA) and genetic algorithm methods. The multiple quasi–phase-matched (QPM) second harmonic generations (SHG’s) in NOS’s are theoretically investigated. The numerical simulations show that NOS’s can be used as a more effective and useful nonlinear optical crystal for multiple nonlinear optical parametric generation.
