A large number of photovoltaic power sources connected to the grid will increase short-circuit current level of power system, and its fault transient process will change the fault characteristics of power grid. In this paper, the equivalent models of transient and steady state faults are obtained, by analysing the full current expression of photovoltaic power sources and its current characteristics in different fault stages. Based on the superposition theorem, the short-circuit current calculation method of power system with photovoltaic power sources is proposed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by the analysis of actual power grid calculation examples, and the results can be used for power grid planning and relay protection setting. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

With the wide application of SF6 gas insulated fully enclosed switchgear (GIS), the reliability of its operation has gradually attracted the attention of power systems at home and abroad. How to dig out valuable data information through various detection methods, realize the risk assessment of insulation failure of GIS equipment, guide the work of condition-based maintenance, and find potential defects in GIS equipment in time is an urgent problem to be solved in the current power system. This paper constructs a neural network, trains the common fault types and characteristics of GIS equipment, and verifies the feasibility of the fault diagnosis method of GIS equipment based on neural network through some real cases. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

With a large number of intelligent substations put into operation, the application of Rogowski coil electronic current transformer is becoming more and more widely. However, in practice, there have been too many power grid accidents caused by its dynamic response characteristics, which lead to protection maloperation. Based on these accidents, this paper expounds the mechanism of generating dynamic additional components of Rogowski coil electronic current transformer and the principle of line differential protection,This paper analyzes the cause of protection misoperation, and builds a power grid model in PSCAD simulation platform to simulate the transmission and transformation of Rogowski coil electronic current transformer when the line is closed without load. By simulating the output results under different parameter structures, the generation mechanism of dynamic additional component is verified, and the suppression measures are found, which proposes the suggestions for preventing protection misoperation. © 2020 IEEE.

Voltage profiles may exceed the upper limit in a distribution network with a high penetration of distributed generation (DG). Voltage can be effectively regulated by curtailing the active power of DG and adjusting the reactive power. Soft open points (SOPs) have flexible active power transfer and reactive power regulation capabilities that can help reduce the active power curtailment of DG. Asymmetric network parameters, single-phase loads, and DGs cause voltage unbalance in distribution networks. This study proposes an optimal power control model of SOPs and DG converters in unbalanced distribution networks (UDNs). First, the individual phase power control characteristics of SOPs and DG converters in UDNs are modelled. Second, an optimisation model is constructed with the minimum active power curtailment of DG and the total power loss and voltage unbalance of UDNs as the objective function and with consideration of the networks and SOP operation constraints. The original optimisation model with non-convex and non-linear characteristics is transformed using power flow linearisation and linear relaxation into a linear programming model that can be efficiently solved. Finally, the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed model are verified using an IEEE 33-node system. © The Institution of Engineering and technology 2020

The adhesion between the carbon fibre reinforced copper matrix composite material and the coating is of particular importance for the mechanical and functional properties of the resulting system, and also for its handling and for the lifetime of the final product. To have a better understanding of the microstructure at the interface region, three different coating processes, i.e. electroplated Nickel coating, alkyd resin coating and polyolefin coating have been carried out and compared using SEM/EDX techniques. The experimental results indicate that the electroplated Nickel coating gives the best adhesion strength at the interface, suggesting this method the most promising approach and can be further investigated for electrical and electronic engineering applications in power industry. © 2021 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

In order to accommodate redundant renewable energy during load valley periods within an industrial park, this paper proposes the “energy red packet” incentive-based bidding mechanism to strategically motivate industrial electric power and heat consumers to get demand response autonomously. A benefit sharing mechanism is designed based on the Shapley value method to give participants bonuses regarding their contribution to the system cost savings within the industrial park. A realistic case in China is studied to verify that the proposed mechanisms are able to utilize resources most efficiently and give the DR participants their bonuses allocated in a fair manner.

Recently, a novel power flow model called weather dependent power flow (WDPF) has been proposed to incorporate conductor temperatures in power flow calculation. It is promising to adopt WDPF model in probabilistic analysis since it provides more accurate electrical and thermal states of a power system. However, calculation of the WDPF model is more computationally expensive than that of conventional power flow model, and hence repetitive calculation of the WDPF in probabilistic analysis is quite time-consuming. To overcome this challenge, a surrogate-model-based sequential algorithm is proposed for calculation of the WDPF model with high computational efficiency and good accuracy. Compared to the method that directly learns the whole WDPF model, the proposed method only learns the power flow sub-model whereas applies a linearization method to solve the thermal resistance sub-model. The construction of the proposed method considers the learning difficulty of the sub-model and the whole WDPF model, thus ensuring the high calculation accuracy. This study is the first to conduct a probabilistic power flow analysis based on the WDPF model. Numerical results in the IEEE 30-bus, 57-bus, and 118-bus systems demonstrate the importance of adopting the WDPF model in probabilistic analysis and the efficacy of the proposed method. © 2023, CC BY.

A novel nonmetallic fibre optic acoustic sensor on the basis of a symmetric double-diaphragm structure and a fibre Bragg grating (FBG) is presented and demonstrated. The structural principle of the sensor and the optimization of its structural parameters are introduced. A detection system for the response characteristics of the FBG sensor in oil is built. Based on the edge filter demodulation method, the response characteristics of the FBG sensor to ultrasonic signals in oil are measured. The analysis results indicate that the FBG sensor can measure the ultrasonic signal of tens to hundreds of kilohertz in the oil sensitively, and the sensor has multiple resonant peak values, whose sensitivity is high. A partial discharge (PD) detection system is built. The designed FBG sensor is used to measure the ultrasonic signal generated by the actual PD. The PD detection performance of the sensor at different angles is tested. The results indicate that the designed FBG sensor can detect the PD ultrasonic signal in time domain sensitively.

As an important part of the power transmission and distribution network in the power system, many problems in the box-type distribution room deserve attention. Especially the overheating problem will seriously threaten the safe and stable operation of the devices in the power distribution room. To promote heat dissipation and ensure the normal operation of devices in the power distribution room, this paper established a three-dimensional thermal-flow field model for the box-type power distribution room based on the finite element principle. Through this simulation model, the temperature distribution of the box-type distribution room under different dry-type transformer load and ventilation conditions of the distribution room is studied. Besides, this paper found the relationship between the hot-spot temperature and load rate of the dry-type transformer and the inlet air velocity at the vent, and gave an empirical formula through the least-squares fitting method. Finally, it was found that when the inlet air velocity at the vent is set to 0.1m/s, the cost performance of heat dissipation is high. The research in this article is useful to guide the ventilation of the box-type distribution room and the operation of dry-type transformers.

Dissolved gas-in-oil analysis (DGA) is one of the most effective method to realize power transformers' operation status diagnosis. Fiber-enhanced Raman spectroscopy has the unique advantage of using one single wavelength laser to simultaneously achieve highly selective and sensitive detection of mixture gases within a few seconds, making it the most promising technology in gas sensing field. This paper developed an innovative Raman gas sensing system that used a 2-meter hollow-core anti-resonant fiber (HC-ARF), which confined most of the light in the hollow core and simultaneously worked as a sample container, to increase the effective interaction path length of light-analyte as well as the collection efficiency of Raman-scattered light. The Raman spectrum of mixed seven kinds of fault characteristic gases dissolved in transformer oil, including H, CO, CO, CH4, CH6, CH4, CH, was obtained and a limit of detection of 62, 194, 189, 34, 63, 128, 36 ppm for the characteristic Raman shift at 4156, 2143, 1388, 2917, 2955, 1625, 1972 cm-1 was achieved, respectively. The gas filling time for this novel HC-ARF was investigated by monitoring the Raman peak height of CH4 at 2917 cm-1 until it tended to be unchanged. Moreover, the Raman peak intensity and width of CH4 (2917 cm-1) at different laser power were studied. The results indicated that the Raman peak area and height showed a good linear relationship with the laser power, while the full width at half maximum (FWHM) was independent. On the basis of the superiority and versatility, we expect that FERS has high application-potential in transformers' fault diagnosis. © 2020 IEEE.
