This paper proposes a method for extracting vibration signal characteristics of converter transformers based on multi-feature fusion, in order to effectively identify operating faults of converter transformers. This method uses the actual measured vibration signal of the converter transformer as the experimental signal, carries out EMD (empirical mode decomposition) decomposition, and extracts the waveform index, peak index, margin index, kurtosis index and wavelet entropy of the IMF component to form the features Parameter matrix. Then PCA is used to reduce the dimensionality of the matrix to form the eigenvectors, and finally the fuzzy C-means clustering is used to classify the eigenvectors under different working conditions of the commutation transformer. Experimental results show that the vibration signal feature extraction method based on multi-feature fusion overcomes the limitation of single feature and has good distinguishing performance under different working conditions.

This paper presents practical methods for dc side steady state harmonic calculation to analyze harmonic performance along the dc transmission line for the VSC based HVDC system. First, a general dc side harmonic calculation method based on Thevenin's equivalent and IEC general summation law is introduced. The converter and corresponding dc transmission line on both sides are represented as a harmonic voltage source U h and the harmonic impedance Z h seen from each dc side. Different from traditional AC side harmonic calculation which uses the envelopes of harmonic impedance loci, the methods in this paper compute all possible combinations of harmonic impedances covering all operation scenarios, which could easily find out the worst scenario. Second, an improved calculating method for the considering the harmonic model with multi-section dc transmission line harmonic impedance is proposed to improve the computational efficiency. And then, an accommodated harmonic impedance measurement for the dc side application based on small signal injection method is described. Finally, the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation verifications have been carried out based on a ±500kV/2000MW VSC HVDC system to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

As the probability of single-phase grounding faults in China’s urban and rural distribution network systems is getting higher and higher, accurate detection of single-phase grounding faults has become critical. This paper establishes a 110 kV-10 kV-400 V power grid simulation model to simulate the influence of single-phase grounding fault on the voltage, current and power of each line. Results show that: when a short circuit of phase A occurs in line two to ground, the current and power on the bus and the power supply terminal of line two increase drastically. The current and power on the power supply end of the line have only slight fluctuations. Since the transformer is grounded through the arc suppression coil, the voltage, current, and power at the load ends of line 1 and line 2 do not change much. This result provides an information basis for subsequent use of power energy information changing law for single-phase grounding line selection.

Ensuring safe and reliable operation of transformers is of great significance. The performance of insulation oil is directly related to the safe operation level of transformers. The insulation oil is more easily contaminated by particles in the high voltage and large capacity transformer. This paper mainly investigated the influence of different sizes cellulose particles on the partial discharge and breakdown properties of mineral oil under AC electrical field. Results show that the increasing of particles concentration causes the initial discharge voltage and extinguishing voltage to decrease, which is opposite to the trend of discharge capacity. Besides, the existence of cellulose particles decreases the breakdown strength of mineral oil. AC characteristic breakdown voltages decrease linearly with cellulose particles concentration increases. The larger the cellulose particle is, the lower AC breakdown voltage is. Moreover, when the concentration of cellulose particles is constant, the larger the particle size, the lower the initial discharge voltage, and the larger the apparent discharge amount, which can be attributed to the fact that larger particles can carry more charge. © 2019 IEEE.

In this paper, a multi-time scale electromagnetic transient simulation algorithm based on transmission line model was proposed. Two subsystems separated by the transmission line adopted two different simulation step sizes. The results calculated from the small-step subsystem were transmitted to the large-step subsystem after employing the sampling theorem. And the results calculated from the large-step subsystem were transmitted to the small-step subsystem by means of the zero-order hold. Thus, the electromagnetic transient simulation with multiple time scales could be completed. By comparing and analyzing the results of synchronous parallel and asynchronous parallel simulation, the reliability of the proposed multi-time scale electromagnetic transient parallel simulation algorithm was verified. The algorithm proposed provides an effective solution to solve the problem of electromagnetic transient asynchronous parallel simulation.

Epoxy resin possesses excellent electrical insulation, mechanical, and thermal properties and has been widely used in gas insulated switchgear, bushings, solid state transformers, and power cable accessories, and so forth. The dielectric and electrical behaviors of polymeric dielectrics are closely related to their molecular motion and charge transport features, so it is significantly important to unravel the motion of molecular chains and charge carriers in epoxy resin at various ranges of frequencies and temperatures. Dielectric spectra or impedance spectra including the responses of vibrational polarization, orientational polarization due to dipolar molecules, and space charge polarization due to charge carrier hopping or interfacial charge accumulation is a powerful tool to investigate the dielectric properties. In the present work, we analyzed the dielectric relaxation properties in epoxy resin by utilizing the dielectric and electric modulus spectra simultaneously. Dielectric properties were measured in epoxy resin in a wide frequency range from at various temperatures. Based on the frequency spectra of complex conductivity, permittivity, and electric modulus, relaxation phenomena were analyzed. The existance of two relaxation peaks and one peak was confirmed at temperatures below and above 120 °C, respectively. The occurrence of electrode polarization was also observed. The two relaxation peaks at relatively low temperatures obey the Debye and Cole-Cole equations, which are presumably caused by the orientation of dipoles or the movement of chain segments. A Cole-Cole like equation was derived for the new relaxation peak in complex electric modulus at relatively high temperatures, which agrees well with the experimental results. Comparison of the macroscopic conductivity derived based on the relaxation of electric modulus and the microscopic conductivity derived from continuous time random walk theory indicates that the relaxation time constant of electric mod

Ageing assessment of paper insulation is important for the safe operation, maintenance and replacement of power transformers. The life expectancy of a transformer is closely related to the ageing state of its paper insulation. This paper presents novel markers for ageing characterization of paper insulation in oil-filled transformers based on the dispersion staining colors of cellulose fibers. Through the accelerated thermal ageing experiments of oilpaper insulation at 90, 110 and 130 °C, aged oil-paper samples of different ageing degrees are obtained. The changes of physical and chemical characteristics were proven. Meanwhile, the mechanism of changes of fiber refractive index during thermal ageing was studied by molecular simulation software. The simulation results show that the refractive index of cellulose fibers detached from insulation paper increases with the increment of ageing degree of insulation paper; The increase in the refractive index of cellulose during thermal ageing was a result of the combined effect of increased bulk density and increased polarization. Subsequently, the dispersion staining colors of cellulose fibers were observed by dispersion staining method. Then, the original image of dispersion staining was preprocessed. Finally, three ageing markers were proposed which were the primary color ratio-based ratio of blue, the primary color ratio-based ratio of red and color inhomogeneity. Additionally, the aged fiber samples were identified by the method of the support vector machine (SVM) according to the three ageing markers.

The safety issue of technical water supply pipelines in hydroelectric power plant has been an ingrained problem, especially for the old hydraulic power plants. On the one hand, the original design and manufacture are inferior in quality; on the other hand, as the corrosion aggravates over time, water leakage and seepage frequently arise. In acute cases, the workshop may be flooded and other major accidents may occur accordingly. Starting with an accident that the fire hose of stator broke apart, this paper analysed the causes for pipeline break and presented relevant rectification scheme. It has provided technical guidance for maintaining and reconditioning the same type of water pipes.

Epoxy resin based composite insulation materials are widely used in power equipment, and they have also received extensive research. But the effects of the fillers on physical properties of epoxy resin has not yet formed a consistent law, and the mechanism has not been finalized. So, it is necessary to continue to study the characteristics of epoxy resin composites. In this paper, the epoxy/SiO 2 composites were studied. By comparing the effects of different nano-SiO 2 contents and the effects of the same content of micro-SiO 2 and nano-SiO 2 , the results showed that the glass transition temperature, electrical conductivity and thermal stimulation current all exhibited novel trends. After the introduction of nano-silica, the glass transition temperature decreased, which indicated that the molecular chain was easier to move, and consequently the charge carriers were easier to migrate, leading a higher electrical conductivity. On the contrary, the effects of micro-SiO 2 were not obvious.

This paper describes the fault characteristics of power electronic transformer (PET) based on modular multilevel converter (MMC). The bipolar short-circuit fault on MV DC side is analyzed. The influence of the fault on instantaneous power of the MMC bridge arm and sub-module capacitor voltage is estimated with mathematical deduction. The fault ride-through ability of PET is discussed as well. As for the bipolar short-circuit fault on MV DC side, a restart strategy after fault with the maximum time of fault clearing is proposed. The restart strategy has the advantages of low impact and high speed, and has been verified by simulation and 10kV PET prototype.
