Half-wavelength AC transmission (HWACT) possessed economic advantages due to its characteristics. However, the problem of secondary arc current limits its development and application. The neutral reactor is not suitable for HWACT and high speed grounding switch (HSGS) has many drawbacks. In this paper, the characteristics of secondary arc current in HWACT are studied in detail. Then, active suppression method for HWACT secondary arc current is proposed, which is based on a converter. Simulation study in PSCAD/EMTDC is carried out to provide its theory feasibility. The simulation results show that the proposed method is able to limit secondary arc current, speed up the arc extinction and improve the system's fault recovery efficiency in HWACT. © 2017 IEEE.

Compared Analysis of Calculation and Simulation on Heat Transfer Characteristics in PCM Heat Exchange Unit, Part II: Thermal Release Process

In this part, the thermal release processes of PCM phase change in the same energy storage unit are analyzed, and the PCM unit model is the same as in Part I: channel number is 39, the plate spacing is 0.01 m, the air channel is 40 with its plate spacing of 0.003 m, and the unit length is total of 1.62 m. MATLAB solution about the above PCM energy storage unit was performed according to the model and physical property data, and the numerical simulation was carried out by using Fluent software as well. The theoretical calculation and numerical simulation were compared and analyzed. For the release process, it also can be seen that only in the case of smaller or larger flow rate working conditions, the solution results of MATLAB for the changing rate of the average temperature of the phase change material inside the system is quite different from the FLUENT simulation result; the total results are very similar to thermal storage process. When the flow rate is higher, the difference between the two results is even smaller than the release process; the comparison result of the PCM liquid rate is different under the small flow rate condition, and this is obvious for the release process, especially under the condition of small flow rate. However, also the maximum error does not exceed 10%. Conclusion can be drown that the flow rate conditions in the model and working conditions are the important factors for affecting the compared results, but the calculation and simulation results can more accurately describe the thermal release characteristics of the PCM phase change energy storage unit, which was calculated in nearly 90% ranges of working conditions, which furtherly illustrates the effectiveness of analytical method used in this paper.

It is found that only in the case of smaller or larger flow rate working conditions, the solution results of MATLAB for the increase rate of the average temperature of the phase change material inside the system is quite different from the FLUENT simulation result; the comparison of the phase change process degree of advancement is found that at a higher flow rate, the difference between the two results is small, but the difference is larger when the flow rate is smaller; the comparison result of the PCM liquid rate is different under the small flow rate condition. However, the comparative analysis of heat storage shows that the maximum error does not exceed 10%. It can be seen that the flow rate conditions in the model and working conditions are the obvious factors affecting the two results, but the calculation and simulation results can more accurately describe the heat storage characteristics of the PCM phase change energy storage unit, which was calculated in nearly 90% ranges of working conditions, which can prove that the results of MATLAB and FLUENT are consistent.

Exposure level control of power frequency electric field near angle tower of 500kV transmission lines

The distortion of power frequency electric field in the roof space near the angle tower of EHV line is serious, which is an important factor to be considered in transmission line planning and design. This paper establishes a three-dimensional electric field simulation model near the angle tower of 500 kV transmission line and verifies the validity of the simulation by field measurement. Based on this, the factors affecting the spatial electric field level on the roof of the house near the angle tower are analysed. Finally the control distance of the house near the angle tower is calculated according to the electric field exposure limitation in Chinese standards. The results show that the electric field near the transmission line is distorted and elevated by the house, and the electric field level of the roof decreases with the increase of the distance between the house and the line, and decreases with the decrease of the height of the house and the angle of the line.

A voltage sensor based on inverse piezoelectric effect and fiber gratings is presented in this paper. Besides basic sensor validation test of working frequency signals, two sensors with similar parameters were tested and analyzed with working frequency signals and operation voltage signals. Test results indicate that the sensor can work well in working frequency but can only respond to part of the operation voltage signal properly. This is a potential passive sensor consist of the piezoelectric element and fiber element, more work should be conducted to enlarge its working frequency range.

The inrush current is one of the most common low-frequency transients, and is crucial for transformer studies and design. Core materials have an impact on the inrush current of transformers due to their different magnetizing characteristics. However, how their differences affect inrush currents and the influence level need to be further studied. In this paper, the effect of core materials, namely, the grain-oriented silicon steel, grain non-oriented silicon steel, amorphous alloy and nanocrystalline alloy, on inrush currents of transformers is investigated. Experiments are carried out to compare the inrush current peak values of these four transformers. An improved π model considering the detailed saturation process of the core is proposed for inrush current simulations on the ATP-EMTP platform. The simulated and experimental waveforms show good agreement from the peak value and wave-shape point of view. Results show that the amorphous alloy and nanocrystalline alloy transformers generate much higher inrush currents than those of the non-oriented silicon steel and oriented silicon steel transformers, and the reason is discussed in detail.

A Multi-Objective Model with Probability Constraints of Trans-Provincial Hydropower Consumption Considering Dynamic Stability Limit

With the rapid development of clean energy and serious delay of grid construction, water abandonment is becoming more and more severe. Under this condition, this paper proposed a multi-objective model with probability constraints of trans-provincial hydropower consumption considering dynamic stability limit. Firstly, a mathematical expression about the dynamic stability limit of trans-provincial channel is constructed. Secondly, a risk assessment index of abandoned water is established on the basis of semi-absolute deviation. Then, based on the framework of stochastic programming, a multi-objective model with probability constraints is proposed for hydropower transmission in trans-provincial trade. By means of genetic algorithm with embedded Monte-Carlo simulation technology, the model can be solved efficiently. Finally, data of Tibet power grid is calculated to verify the validity and universality of the research. The results show that the established model can achieve optimal economic benefit between grid companies and generation enterprises, and also effective management of water abandonment risk.

Practical Dynamic Security Region Based on Phase Trajectory

A fast method based on the phase trajectory to compute DSR is developed. Firstly, the phase trajectory sensitivity has more linear effect than power angle sensitivity. According to the phase trajectory boundary function, controlling unstable equilibrium generators could be identified. The PDSR is finally obtained by the sensitivity analysis between the phase and generators’ active power. Test results on the New England 10-genrator 39-bus system are presented and prove the effectiveness of this approach.

This paper presents an auxiliary planning method for intelligent substation access system based on security region. Firstly, the method of resolving the static voltage security region is proposed. Secondly, the method of constructing the optimal index of substation accession is given, which is used to describe the priority of the node into the substation. Finally, a complete set of intelligent substation access system auxiliary planning strategy is given, which takes into account the constraints of the normal operation of the grid on the voltage amplitude.
