This brief describes an area-efficient LC-ring oscillator featuring an ultra-compact transformer resonator. The series inverters could be equivalent to the negative resistors providing gain compensation. The involved inverters and switched capacitor banks are fully integrated underneath the transformer resonator. Thus, with a comparable area of the typical ring oscillators, our oscillator shows significantly improved phase noise (PN) and figure-of-merit (FoM). Besides, we implemented the stacked coupling and distributed-coupling transformer-based LC-ring oscillators for the PN and FoM comparison. The stacked-coupling LC-ring oscillator can lower the PN with the same frequency and power budget. Fabricated in 40-nm CMOS, our stacked-coupling LC-ring oscillator scores a PN@1MHZ of -110.4 dBc/Hz across the frequency tuning range from 3.7 to 5.1 GHz with an active area of 0.0019 mm2, corresponding to a superior FoM (FoMA)@1MHz of 175.2 dBc/Hz (202.4 dBc/Hz) that is 4.2 dB (6 dB) higher than the distributed-coupling LC ring oscillator. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

UV-assisted ratiometric fiuorescence sensor for one-pot visual detection of Salmonella

Rapid diagnosis of Salmonella is crucial for the effective control of food safety incidents, especially in regions with poor hygiene conditions. Polymerase chain reaction(PCR), as a promising tool for Salmonella detection, is facing a lack of simple and fast sensing methods that are compatible with field applications in resource-limited areas. In this work, we developed a sensing approach to identify PCR-amplified Salmonella genomic DNA with the naked eye in a snapshot. Based on the ratiometric fiuorescence signals from SYBR Green Ⅰ and Hydroxyl naphthol blue, positive samples stood out from negative ones with a distinct color pattern under UV exposure. The proposed sensing scheme enabled highly specific identification of Salmonella with a detection limit at the single-copy level. Also, as a supplement to the intuitive naked-eye visualization results, numerical analysis of the colored images was available with a smartphone app to extract RGB values from colored images. This work provides a simple, rapid, and user-friendly solution for PCR identification, which promises great potential in molecular diagnosis of Salmonella and other pathogens in field.

The brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) based on speech imagery with asynchronous (self-paced) paradigms enable users to directly access and manipulate BCIs with more freedom. Compared with the indirect BCIs with traditional synchronous (cue-based) paradigms, the calibration time of asynchronous paradigms was much longer and with the unbalanced number of task states and idle states. This work aimed to improve the calibration of asynchronous BCI systems by applying a data alignment (DA) approach on cue-based and self-paced paradigms. The cue-based paradigm was regarded as the calibration paradigm and the self-paced paradigm was the testing paradigm. The data alignment approach based on the parallel transport mapped their features on the same tangent space. The logistic regression was used as the classifier to classify task states and idle states. The average result with DA was 7.52% higher than that without DA (baseline), which were 78.45% and 70.92%, respectively. Specially, the best classification accuracy was for 91.82% with DA, and the largest improvement in accuracy was 22.92%. These results suggest that it is practical to use a synchronous paradigm as calibration paradigm in asynchronous BCI systems and the data alignment approach has positive impacts on the classification of task states and idle states. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, a model predictive robust control (MPRC) is proposed for a three-phase capacitive-coupling grid-connect inverter (CGCI) to improve the power quality compensation performance under deviating system parameters. A detail stability study and parameter design of the proposed MPRC is provided, while the robustness and power quality compensation performance of the proposed MPRC are verified by the simulation in comparison to the conventional model predictive control (MPC). © 2024 IEEE.

Time-interleaved ADC architecture is widely used in high-speed applications because this structure can increase the speed of ADC linearly by adding the number of channels. On the other hand, the oversampling technique, especially the technique that combines oversampling and noise shaping, can significantly improve the accuracy of the ADC through a trade-off between speed and resolution. So, what kind of sparks will be produced when time interleaving meets oversampling? This paper will be based on the three works of our research group in recent years, combined with other excellent papers, and try to discuss how to combine the time-interleaved and oversampling to solve the mismatch between the channels of the time-interleaved ADC and break the speed bottleneck through the traditional sigma-delta modulators or noise-shaping SAR ADC. © 2024 IEEE.

Currently, electric vehicle (EV) battery platforms typically vary in standard, commonly rated at either 800V or 400V. Conventional wireless charging system (WCS) are limited to single voltage level charging, necessitating wireless communication or additional complex circuits for achieving multi-voltage level charging, which can compromise operational stability and overall efficiency. This article proposes a WCS based on the concept of bipolar partial power conversion. By incorporating reversing series switches on the secondary of the DC/DC converter, regulation voltage control enables switching between positive and negative polarity to supply power to either 800V or 400V battery for EV. This approach ensures high power transmission efficiency, without relying on wireless communication, thereby ensuring stable charging process. Furthermore, this article also presents various combinations of bipolar topologies that can be selectively employed based on application requirements. Finally, simulation results validate the feasibility of the proposed 3.2KW WCS. © 2024 IEEE.

Background: Capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs) is a promising component of mechanical-electrical-acoustical conversion, which shows valuable applications in non-distructive testing and obstacle detection fields. In order to study the influence of dimension parameters on the directivity of CMUTs, the three-dimensional multi-physics coupling model is proposed for CMUTs in this paper. Methods: The model combines multiple physical fields through finite element method (FEM), which is more efficient and accurate. The influence of dimension parameters on the transducer is studied from two aspects: the pitch between adjacent cells and cell number, respectively. Results: When increasing the pitch, the directivity becomes better if the pitch is less than half of the wavelength, the grating lobe and side lobe are aroused. However, the bandwidth at-3dB is reduced by up to 71.1% at the same time. When increasing the cell number, the better the direcitvity, while the change of the cell number has little effect on the bandwidth of the array. However, 5.4% frequency shift was caused due to the effective mass change of the transducer. Conclusion: In this study, a 3D model based on FEM is proposed for the influence of dimension parameter on CMUTs. The simulation results indicate that the directivity can be enhanced by chang-ing the dimension. At the same time, it also introduces other performance issues, such as bandwidth decrease and frequency shift through this approach. Therefore, the simulation proposed the guidance of CMUTs performance optimization and patented technology application work in the future. © 2024, Bentham science Publishers. All rights reserved.

The wireless power transfer (WPT) technology has gained significant attention in recent years due to its potential to provide a convenient and efficient method to charging electronic devices without the need for physical connections. In wireless charging, the inductive coils are significantly important as they are the component that power transfer takes place. In this context, Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) has emerged as a promising technique for designing WPT coils with improved performance. Aiming to verify the performance of the designed coil, LCC-S compensation topology was utilized as it can provide practical battery charging specifications. © 2023 IEEE.
