Currently, electric vehicle (EV) battery platforms typically vary in standard, commonly rated at either 800V or 400V. Conventional wireless charging system (WCS) are limited to single voltage level charging, necessitating wireless communication or additional complex circuits for achieving multi-voltage level charging, which can compromise operational stability and overall efficiency. This article proposes a WCS based on the concept of bipolar partial power conversion. By incorporating reversing series switches on the secondary of the DC/DC converter, regulation voltage control enables switching between positive and negative polarity to supply power to either 800V or 400V battery for EV. This approach ensures high power transmission efficiency, without relying on wireless communication, thereby ensuring stable charging process. Furthermore, this article also presents various combinations of bipolar topologies that can be selectively employed based on application requirements. Finally, simulation results validate the feasibility of the proposed 3.2KW WCS.

Due to the capacitor being a critical component that is prone to failure in switch mode power supplies (SMPS), it is critical to identify and monitor the electrical parameters, namely the equivalent series resistance (ESR) and capacitance (C). This research proposes an online identification approach for capacitor ESR and C for continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) DC-DC buck converters. The calculation model is developed from the ripple component of capacitor voltage. By sampling the ripple component of capacitor voltage at the switch on or switch off moment, and capturing the first zero crossing time of the ripple component of capacitor voltage. This identification method does not use any current sensor and is effective for CCM and DCM buck converters working under different circuit parameters. The implementation of the proposed identification method is provided, and the details of implementation are provided. The simulation results verify the proposed identification method is effeteness.

In this paper, a model predictive robust control (MPRC) is proposed for a three-phase capacitive-coupling grid-connect inverter (CGCI) to improve the power quality compensation performance under deviating system parameters. A detail stability study and parameter design of the proposed MPRC is provided, while the robustness and power quality compensation performance of the proposed MPRC are verified by the simulation in comparison to the conventional model predictive control (MPC).

The hybrid active power filter (HAPF) emerges as a cost-effective remedy for power quality challenges in medium voltage power systems. The success of HAPF, crucially, hinges on the efficacy of its current control mechanism. This paper introduces a novel approach by proposing a deterministic policy gradient based reinforcement learning (DPG-RL) as the current control strategy for HAPF. In stark contrast to conventional model-based control methods, the DPG-RL leverages artificial intelligence (AI) technology, rendering it model-free and capable of dynamically seeking the optimal control policy to enhance HAPF performance. A notable advantage lies in its significantly lower computational burden during each sampling period, distinguishing it from other contemporary AI-aided control methods. The paper outlines a systematic design process, encompassing feature selection and reward function design, to formulate the RL problem. The comprehensive design procedure of DPG-RL is then detailed. Simulation results are subsequently presented, validating the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed DPG-RL across diverse operational scenarios.

A Sagnac interferometer temperature sensor based on liquid crystal filled side hole fiber (SHF) is designed and studied. Liquid crystal's refractive index is sensitive to temperature changes. Therefore, the temperature sensitivity of the liquid crystal-filled sagnac interferometer is enhanced. Finally, temperature measurement and temperature sensing with sensitivity up to 223pm/°C can be achieved. This is about 20 times that of the Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensor. © 2022 IEEE.

Compared with the conventional active power filter (APF), the static var compensator coupling hybrid active power filter (SVC-HAPF) has distinct characteristics of low DC-link operating voltage, which can lower the system and operational costs. It also has a wider operational range than the conventional hybrid active power filter (HAPF). In this paper, a harmonic state-space (HSS) modeling is firstly proposed to address the nonlinearity issue of the SVC-HAPF. The HSS based SVC-HAPF model is linear time-invariant (LTI), which enables the optimal control techniques. Then, the linear matrix inequality (LMI) based H∞ optimal control design is proposed, which finds the optimal controller parameters via convex optimization algorithm. The proposed controller for the SVC-HAPF achieves high steady-state accuracy, fast transient response, and fixed switching frequency simultaneously. Finally, simulation and experimental results are also provided to verify the effectiveness and performance of the optimal controller for the SVC-HAPF in comparison with the recent developed state-of-the-art multi-quasi-proportional-resonant (MQPR) controller, which shows superior control performances. © 2017 CPSS.

The direct-speech brain-computer interfaces (DS-BCIs) with self-paced paradigms are much more promising and practical than indirect BCIs with general synchronous paradigms. As the exact onset and offset locations of analysis window are hard to achieve in the imagined speech of ideal DS-BCIs, spoken speech with clear audible output in this study is used as a medium to study the impact of exact location of analysis window in self-paced BCIs. This work aimed to use shifted analysis windows to simulate the situations with different levels of onset location errors of analysis window in the EEG-based classification of spoken Mandarin monosyllables carrying vowels and lexical tones. The analysis window (based on the duration of the available overt speech) was shifted from the true onset location. The Riemannian manifold method was used to extract features for the collected EEG signals, and a linear discriminant analysis (LDA) was employed to classify different vowels and lexical tones. The results in vowel and tone classifications were 70.7% and 54.9%, respectively, at an overall best-shifted level. It was found that vowel and lexical tone classifications reached their best performances at different shifting levels of analysis window. When choosing a suitable analysis window, the EEG signals without shift were more suitable to classify vowels, and those EEG signals away from the onset location were found to benefit tone classification.

This paper presents a fully-integrated reconfigurable dual-ring switched-capacitor (DRSC) converter that overcomes the coarse output voltage resolution limitation of traditional switched-capacitor (SC) converters. The proposed DRSC converter cascades multiple stages of SC cells and achieves a fine voltage conversion ratio resolution from 1/n to (n-1)/n, where n is the number of phases. To improve efficiency, the bottom-plate parasitic loss is mitigated by the charge redistribution technique. Also, the power switches are divided into several segmentation groups to reduce the output ripple with different loads. This work is designed in a 180nm CMOS process with 30 cascaded reconfigurable SC power cells. It achieves a wide output voltage range of 0.5-3.3V from a battery input voltage (2.7-4.2V). The load regulation is implemented with a pulse-frequency modulation (PFM) control. The simulated peak efficiency is 78%, with a load current range of 0 to 20mA, using 1.5nF on-chip capacitors in total.

This article presents an output-capacitorless low-dropout regulator (OCL-LDO), merging with a hybrid push-pull buffer. The hybrid push-pull buffer implements a dynamic and adaptive biasing push-pull gate driving circuit, achieving stability without needing a complex compensation circuit and external load capacitor. Our devised OCL-LDO can operate with a load current range of 0-30 mA, with a quiescent current of 7 μA at zero load current. The proposed OCL-LDO is fabricated in a 0.18-μm CMOS process with an active area of 0.03 mm2. Measurement results show that with a load current stepping from 0-30 mA and an edge time of 100 ns, the output voltage undershoot is 0.14 V, with a corresponding recovery time of 150 ns. The measured load regulation is 0.207 mV/mA at a supply voltage of 1.15 V and a dropout voltage of 0.15 V. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Quantitative demodulation of the external vibration is demonstrated with a direct-detection based Phase-sensitive OTDR system. An acousto-optic modulator is utilized for both probe pulse generation, and optical phase shifting simultaneously. The fiber under test is probed with a phase shifted double pulse pair scheme, with the phase difference between the two pulses periodically shifted with a π/2 step. The optical phase information is retrieved using the homodyne inter-pulse interference signal with direct detection only. Experimental results show good consistence between the phase demodulation result and the applied vibration amplitude under a cost-effective system configuration. © 2021 IEEE.
