Evaluation of the technoeconomic feasibility of electrochemical hydrogen peroxide production for decentralized water treatment

This study evaluated the feasibility of electrochemical hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)production with gas diffusion electrode(GDE)for decentralized water *** black-polytetrafluoroethylene GDEs were prepared and tested in a continuous flow electrochemical cell for H2O2 production from oxygen *** showed that because of the effective oxygen transfer in GDEs,the electrode maintained high apparent current efficiencies(ACEs,>80%)for H_(2)O_(2) production over a wide current density range of 5–400 mA/cm^(2),and H_(2)O_(2) production rates as high as~202 mg/h/cm^(2) could be ***-term stability test showed that the GDE maintained high ACEs(>85%)and low energy consumption(<10 kWh/kg H2O2)for H_(2)O_(2) production for 42 d(~1000 h).However,the ACEs then decreased to~70%in the following 4 days because water flooding of GDE pores considerably impeded oxygen transport at the late stage of the *** on an electrode lifetime of 46 days,the overall cost for H2O2 production was estimated to be~0.88$/kg H_(2)O_(2),including an electricity cost of 0.61$/kg and an electrode capital cost of 0.27$/*** a 9 cm^(2) GDE and 40 mA/cm^(2) current density,~2–4 mg/L of H2O2 could be produced on site for the electro-peroxone treatment of a 1.2 m^(3)/d groundwater flow,which considerably enhanced ibuprofen abatement compared with ozonation alone(~43%–59%vs.7%).These findings suggest that electrochemical H_(2)O_(2) production with GDEs holds great promise for the development of compact treatment technologies for decentralized water treatment at a household and community level.

Antibiotic wastewater contains a variety of pollutant stressors that can induce and promote antibiotic resistance(AR)when released into the *** these substances are mostly in concentrations lower than those known to induce AR individually,it is possible that antibiotic wastewater discharge might still promote the AR transmission risk via additive or synergistic ***,the comprehensive effect of antibiotic wastewater on AR development has rarely been evaluated,and its treatment efficiency remains ***,samples were collected from different stages of a cephalosporin production wastewater treatment plant,and the potential AR induction effect of their chemical mixtures was explored through the exposure of the antibiotic-sensitive Escherichia coli K12 *** with raw cephalosporin production wastewater significantly promoted mutation rates(3.6×10^(3)-9.3×10^(3)-fold)and minimum inhibition concentrations(6.0-6.7-fold)of *** against ampicillin and *** may be attributed to the inhibition effect and oxidative stress of cephalosporin wastewater on *** AR induction effect of cephalosporin wastewater decreased after the coagulation sedimentation treatment and was completely removed after the full treatment process.A Pearson correlation analysis revealed that the reduction in the AR induction effect had a strong positive correlation with the removal of organics and biological *** indicates that the antibiotic wastewater treatment had a collaborative processing effect of conventional pollutants,toxicity,and the AR induction *** study illustrates the potential AR transmission risk of antibiotic wastewater and highlights the need for its adequate treatment.

The development of integrated thermal management system for the improvement of environmental adaptability and comprehensive energy efficiency of new generation electric vehicles has become the development trend of the industry, but its coupling between systems is strong and development is difficult, so it needs system integration test to assist development. The integrated test technology of thermal management system is reviewed from the characteristics of integrated thermal management system, the research status of system integration test technology and the technical conditions of bench test. Focusing on meeting the technical requirements of real vehicle scenario in bench test environment and customization of test conditions, this paper analyzes in detail the research progress and technical application of key technologies such as the real-time calculation method of system simulation of real vehicle operation air intake and the accurate control of transient air supply and temperature stability control under low speed condition, puts forward the current problems of system integration test and predicts the development direction. © 2023 SPIE.

Efficient Pt/KFI zeolite catalysts for the selective catalytic reduction of NOxby hydrogen

Aiming at purification of NO_(x)from hydrogen internal combustion engines(HICEs),the hydrogen selective catalytic reduction(H_(2)-SCR)reaction was investigated over a series of Pt/KFI zeolite catalysts.H_(2)can readily reduce NO_(x)to N_(2)and N_(2)O while O_(2)inhibited the deNO_(x)efficiency by consuming the reductant H_(2).The Pt/KFI zeolite catalysts with Pt loading below 0.1wt.% are optimized H_(2)-SCR catalysts due to its suitable operation temperature window since high Pt loading favors the H_(2)-O_(2)reaction which lead to the insufficient of *** to metal Pt^(0)species,Pt^(δ+)species showed lower activation energy of H_(2)-SCR reaction and thought to be as reasonable active ***,Eley-Rideal(E-R)reaction mechanism was proposed as evidenced by the reaction orders in kinetic ***,the optimized reactor was designed with hybrid Pt/KFI catalysts with various Pt loading which achieve a high NO_(x)conversion in a wide temperature range.

The atmospheric chemical mechanism is an essential component of airshed models used for investigating the chemical behaviors and impacts of *** the first tropospheric chemical mechanism was proposed in the 1960s,various mechanisms including Master Chemical Mechanism(MCM),Carbon Bond Mechanism(CBM),statewide Air Pollution Research Center(SAPRC)and Regional Atmospheric Chemistry Mechanism(RACM)have been developed for different research *** work summarizes the development and applications of these mechanisms,introduces their compositions and lumping methods,and compares the ways the mechanisms treat radicals with box model *** can reproduce urban pollution events with relatively low cost compared to SAPRC and RACM,whereas the chemical behaviors of radicals and the photochemical production of ozone are described in detail in *** photolysis rates of some oxygenated compounds are low in SAPRC07,which may result in underestimation of radical *** an explicit chemical mechanism,MCM describes the chemical processes of primary pollutants and their oxidation products in *** can be used to investigate certain chemical processes;however,due to its large size,it is rarely used in regional model simulations.A box model case study showed that the chemical behavior of OH and HO_(2)radicals and the production of ozone were well described by all *** and SAPRC underestimated the radical levels for different chemical treatments,leading to low ozone production values in both *** and RACM are widely used in box model studies,while CBM and SAPRC are often selected in regional simulations.

Design of Ca-type todorokite catalysts with highly active for the selective reduction of NO_(x) by NH_(3) at low temperatures

Ca-type todorokite catalysts were designed and prepared by a simple redox method and applied to the selective reduction of NO_(x) by NH_(3)(NH_(3)-SCR)for the first *** with the Na-type manjiroite prepared by the same method,the todorokite catalysts with different Mn/Ca ratios showed greatly improved catalytic activity for NO_(x) *** them,Mn8Ca4 catalyst exhibited the best NH_(3)-SCR performance,achieving 90%NO_(x) conversion within temperature range of 70-275℃ and having a high sulphur *** to the Na-type manjiroite sample,Ca-type todorokite catalysts possessed an increased size of tunnel,resulting in a larger specific surface *** increased the amounts of Ca doping,the Na content in Ca-type todorokite catalysts significantly decreased,providing larger amounts of Bronsted acid sites for NH_(3) adsorption to produce NH_(4)^(+).The NH_(4)^(+)species were highly active for reaction with NO+O_(2),playing a determining role in NH_(3)-SCR process at low ***,larger amounts of surface adsorbed oxygen contained over the Ca-doping samples than that over Na-type manjiroite,promoting the oxidation of NO and fast SCR *** the Ca-type todorokite catalysts,furthermore,nitrates produced during the flow of NO+O_(2),were more active for reaction with NH_(3) than that over Na-type manjiroite,benefiting the occurrence of NH_(3)-SCR *** study provides novel insights into the design of NH_(3)-SCR catalysts with high performance.

A passive sampler for synchronously measuring inorganic and organic pollutants in sediment porewater:Configuration and field application

In situ measurement of multiple pollutants coexisting in sediment porewater is an essential step in comprehensively assessing the bioavailability and risk of pollutants,but to date,this needs to be better *** this study,a passive sampler,consisting of an“I-shaped”supporting frame and inorganic/organic sampling units,incorporating equilibrium dialysis theory and kinetic/equilibrium sorption principle,was developed for the synchronous measurement of inorganic(e.g.,phosphorus and metal(loid)s)and organic pollutants(e.g.,parent and substituted PAHs).The equilibrium time and sampling rates were explored in laboratory tests to support in situ *** of pollutants in porewater within a vertical resolution of centimeters,i.e.,1 cm and 2 cm for inorganic and organic pollutants,respectively,were obtained by field deployment of the sampler for further estimation of diffusive fluxes across the sediment-water *** results suggested that the role of sediments for a specific pollutant may change(e.g.,from“sink”to“source”)during the sampling *** study demonstrated the feasibility of synchronous measurement of inorganic and organic pollutants in sediment porewater by the passive *** addition,it provided new insight for further investigation into the combined pollution effects of various pollutants in sediments.

Piezo-actuated stage is a core component in micro-nano manufacturing ***,the inherent nonlinearity,such as rate-dependent hysteresis,in the piezo-actuated stage severely impacts its tracking *** study proposes a direct adaptive control(DAC)method to realize high precision *** proposed controller is designed by a time delay recursive neural *** with those existing DAC methods designed under the general Lipschitz condition,the proposed control method can be easily generalized to the actual systems,which have hysteresis ***,a hopfield neural network(HNN)estimator is proposed to adjust the parameters of the proposed controller ***,a modular model consisting of linear submodel,hysteresis submodel,and lumped uncertainties is established based on the HNN estimator to describe the piezoactuated stage in this ***,the performance of the HNN estimator can be exhibited visually through the modeling *** proposed control method eradicates the adverse effects on the control performance arising from the inaccuracy in establishing the offline model and improves the capability to suppress the influence of hysteresis on the tracking accuracy of piezo-actuated stage in comparison with the conventional DAC *** stability of the control system is ***,a series of comparison experiments with a dual neural networks-based data driven adaptive controller are carried out to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed controller.

Low-condensation diesel use contributes to winter haze in cold regions of China

The application of low-condensation diesel in cold regions with extremely low ambient temperatures(−14 to−29℃)has enabled the operation of diesel ***,it may contribute to heavy haze pollution in cold regions during *** we examine pollutant emissions from low-condensation diesel in *** measure the emissions of elemental carbon(EC),organic carbon(OC),and elements,including heavy metals such as arsenic(As).Our results show that low-condensation diesel increased EC and OC emissions by 2.5 and 2.6 times compared to normal diesel fuel,*** of vehicular sources,including EC,As,lead(Pb),cadmium(Cd),chromium(Cr),nickel(Ni),and manganese(Mn),increased by approximately 20.2-162.5%when using low-condensation *** variation of vehicular source indicators,observed at road site ambient environments revealed the enhancement of PM2.5 pollution by the application of low-condensation diesel in *** findings suggest that−35#diesel,a low-cetane index diesel,may enhance air pollution in winter,according to a dynamometer test conducted in *** raises questions about whether higher emissions are released if−35#diesel is applied to running vehicles in real-world cold ambient environments.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the interactions between driver manipulation behaviors. Firstly, representative samples from driving behavior dataset were screened. Secondly, four characteristic indicators were constructed. Thirdly, the Apriori algorithm was established for correlation analysis on these four driving behaviors in order to obtain the influence relationship between different driving behaviors. Therefore, the correlation between different undesirable driving behaviors and reveals the intrinsic law of driver manipulation behavior were illustrated, which provided great significance for improving the warning effect and intervention efficiency of automotive active safety systems. © 2024 The Authors.
