Improving Fugitive Dust Emission Inventory from Construction Sector Using UAV Images Recognition

Over rapidly developing and urbanizing countries, frequent construction activities are the primary drivers behind the substantial emissions and contributors of fugitive dust. In this study, an innovative method was developed to compile a high-resolution spatiotemporal emission inventory from construction sector, utilizing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images. This methodology offered detailed activity level information by distinguishing various types of construction lands and equipment. Focusing on the Shunde District of Guangdong in China, the new emission inventory derived from this method highlighted that travel, topsoil excavation, and loading collectively contributed up to 90% of particulate matter (PM) emissions during the earthwork phase. Moreover, this new inventory rectified the tendency of traditional methods to underestimate PM10 emissions and overestimate PM2.5 emissions, while revealing the non-linear relationship between PM emissions and construction area. This improved PM emission inventory appeared to precisely identify major emission hotspots and enhanced performance of the Community Multi-scale Air Quality (CMAQ) model, and the correlation coefficient (R-value) is 0.08 ± 0.02 higher than that of the traditional emission inventory. Post integration of monitoring data through the Software for the Modeled Attainment Test-Community Edition (SMAT-CE), the contributions of construction dust to local PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations were estimated at 3.27 ± 0.8 µg m–3 and 1.11 ± 0.27 µg m–3, respectively, with more pronounced impacts observed in the central, northwestern, and south-central zones of the study region. This study provides valuable insight for improving construction dust and PM emission inventories, which should be benefiting the development of air pollution prevention and control strategies over this study area as well as other rapidly growing urban areas. © The Author(s).

In order to solve the time and economic cost issues of automatic parking algorithm testing for intelligent vehicles in real scenarios, this paper develops a hardware in the loop virtual simulation system for automatic parking based on ultrasonic echo simulator. Based on the vehicle kinematics model, this paper establishes the optimal control problem of parking path planning, converts the optimal control problem into a linear programming problem, and uses the adaptive pseudo spectral method to obtain the optimal trajectory. Combining virtual environment and hardware in the loop system for verification, the experimental results show that accurate obstacle information in the virtual scene can be obtained based on ultrasonic echo signals. In the parallel parking scene of multiple target vehicles, intelligent vehicles can perform trajectory planning based on obstacle information and safely complete parking tasks. © 2023 IEEE.

The traits of rural domestic sewage emission are unclear,negatively affecting rural domestic sewage treatment and sewage *** study used data from the Second National Pollution Source Census Bulletin to establish a data *** spatial distribution characteristics and main factors influencing rural sewage discharge in the Northern Region were studied using spatial autocorrelation analysis and structural *** findings demonstrated that(l)a significant Spearman correlation between drainage water volume(DwV),chemical oxygen demand(COD),ammonia nitrogen(NH_(3)-N),total nitrogen(TN),and total phosphorus(TP)and that the correlation coefficients between DWV and COD,NH,-N,TNand TP were 0.87**,1.0**,0.99**,0.99**,respectively;(2)rural sewage discharge showed spatial autocorrelation,and rural domestic sewage discharge in the districts and counties with an administration was significantly higher than in the surrounding areas;and(3)social development was the main driver rural domestic sewage changes(path coefficient was 0.407**),and the main factors influencing rural domestic sewage discharge were the urbanization rate,years of education,and population age *** study obtained the spatial variation law and clarified the main influencing factors of rural domestic sewage to provide data support and a theoretical basis for subsequent rural sewage collection and *** of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in northern China as a typical case,provides a theoretical foundation for scientific decision-making on rural domestic sewage treatment at the national and regional levels and offers new perspectives for managing pollutants.

Large area of soil moisture status diagnosis based on plant canopy spectral data remains one of the hot spots of agricultural ***,the existing soil water prediction model constructed by the spectral parameters without considering the plant growth process will inevitably increase the prediction *** study carried out research on the correlations among spectral parameters of the canopy of winter wheat,crop growth process,and soil water content,and finally constructed the soil water content prediction model with the growth days *** results showed that the plant water content of winter wheat tended to decrease during the whole growth *** plant water content had the best correlations with the soil water content of the 0-50 cm soil *** different growth stages,even if the soil water content was the same,the plant water content and characteristic spectral reflectance were also ***,the crop growing days parameter was added to the model established by the relationships between characteristic spectral parameters and soil water content to increase the prediction *** is found that the determination coefficient(R^(2))of the models built during the whole growth period was greatly increased,ranging from 0.54 to ***,the model built by OSAVI(Optimized Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index)and Rg/Rr,two of the highest precision characteristic spectral parameters,were selected for model *** correlation between OSAVI and soil water content,Rg/Rr,and soil water content were still significant(p<0.05).The R^(2),MAE,and RMSE validation models were 0.53 and 0.58,3.19 and 2.97,4.76 and 4.41,respectively,which was accurate enough to be applied in a large-area ***,the upper and lower irrigation limit of OSAVI and Rg/Rr were put *** research results could guide the agricultural production of winter wheat in northern China.

Using low-carbon/zero-carbon energy sources and negative emission technologies, and economic policies have proven to be effective measures for electric power plants’ CO2 emission mitigation. This study constructs an interval fractional electric power system planning (IFES) model for minimizing CO2 emission intensity considering the interactions between the measures and other constraints under uncertainty. The model is applied to Fujian Province as a real-case study, which contains electricity mix improvement, three types of CO2 emission reduction technologies, one policy. It was found that: (i) System carbon emission intensity is [170, 213] g/RMB;(ii) The proportion of clean energy power generation in Fujian Province will reach [92.32, 93.13]% in the 2055–2060, with nuclear energy, wind power and photovoltaic power generation ranking the top three;(iii) The electricity mix improvement has made the greatest contribution to the carbon neutrality of the power system (74.62%), and the contributions of CCS, DAC, and ESC are (9.11, 5.25, 11.02%) respectively. The research results provide scientific planning solutions for carbon reduction in the power industry in Fujian Province. Cavitation flow field of hydrodynamic torque converter under stall condition is simulated by different numerical simulation methods based on computational fluid dynamics, the cavitation morphological characteristics of stator blade surface simulated by different turbulence models and cavitation models are compared and analyzed. The incipient area of cavitation on the stator surface is located accurately and the spatio-temporal evolution law of cavitation morphological characteristics is revealed based on the simulation post-processing results, including velocity field, pressure field, bubble volume fraction, turbulent kinetic energy changing with time. The reliability and applicability of cavitation flow field simulation methods are comprehensively evaluated through the verification of external characteristic test results. Cavitation phenomenon is first to appear on the side of stator blade head biased to suction surface, and its morphological characteristics is similar to conical shape. The prediction error of torque ratio based on Z-G-B(k-w) model is minimum, the value is 0.055%. Relatively, the prediction error of torque ratio based on S-S(k-ϵ) model is maximum, the value is 8.791 %. The prediction accuracy of pump torque coefficient is close to the experimental results, and the error is less than 5%. Z-G-B(k-ω) model has the best prediction effect. © 2023 IEEE.

With the proposal of 'dual carbon' goal, the installed capacity of new energy is increasing rapidly, but the randomness and unpredictability of new energy affect the security of power grid. The stability of power grid requires the thermal power plant to carry out the task of peak regulation, but the thermal power plant to undertake the task of deep peak regulation is not high income, poor enthusiasm. Based on the operation rules of auxiliary service market in Northeast China, this paper studies the deep peak shaving task of energy storage system auxiliary thermal power plant. At the same time, the cost of all-vanadium flow battery was modeled and calculated, and the control strategy of charge and discharge limit of energy storage was adopted based on the depth peak shaving benchmark. The cost model and profit model of the energy storage system are constructed, and the economic analysis of the energy storage system in the combined fire storage system is carried out. Further explore the feasibility of energy storage system combined with thermal power plant peak regulation. © 2022 IEEE.

As one of the core technologies of automatic driving, the decision-making module plays a crucial role in the safety of automatic driving. In this paper, a fuzzy logic based automatic driving lane changing strategy is proposed to fuzzy the time to collision and distance coefficients by introducing a safe distance model. Fuzzy rules are established based on expert experience to get the fuzzy output of lane changing willingness, which in turn forms the lane changing decision of the self-driving vehicle. The strategy has strong adaptability and practicality, effectively handles various complex traffic scenarios, and improves the safety and comfort of self-driving vehicles. In this study, a lane-changing scenario is designed in the virtual simulation software, and the vehicle-in-the-loop test platform is utilized for experimental verification. The test results prove that the automatic driving lane changing strategy enables the vehicle to make reasonable lane changing decisions in different traffic scenarios, avoids collision risks, and improves driving comfort. © 2023 IEEE.

Distributionally Robust Dispatch for Power System with Advanced Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage Considering Frequency Security

In response to climate change and the need to decrease carbon emissions, the penetration of renewable energies into power grids is growing dramatically. However, the high intermittence and low inertia of renewable energy pose significant risks to frequency security. The advanced adiabatic compressed air energy storage (AA-CAES) is a promising solution to enhancing grid frequency security due to its flexible and high inertia properties. Therefore, based on distributionally robust optimization, this paper proposes a dispatch strategy with the participation of AA-CAES to enhance frequency security. Firstly, a dispatch-friendly model of AA-CAES is proposed and can reflect the impacts of the part-load features on the dis-/charging efficiencies and capacities. Subsequently, a frequency response model with AA-CAES is presented to establish frequency security constraints, ensuring compliance with minimum inertia and maximum frequency deviation requirements. Furthermore, to cope with the randomness of renewable energy, this proposed model is formulated as a distributionally robust optimization problem with a "min-max-min" structure. In the day-ahead stage, the optimal on/off schedules for generators and AA-CAES can be determined according to the worst probability distribution in the second stage for providing sufficient grid inertia. In the intra-day stage, the generation and AA-CAES can be adjusted to minimize the frequency deviation. Finally, numerical studies are tested on the modified IEEE-39 bus system. The simulation results demonstrate the validity and feasibility of the proposed strategy with AA-CAES in supporting grid frequency security. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
