Contribution of redox-active properties of compost-derived humic substances in hematite bioreduction

The compost-derived humic substances(HS)can function as electron mediators for promoting hematite bioreduction because of its redox *** process can affect redox capacities of compost-derived HS by changing its intrinsic ***,the redox properties of compost-derived HS link-ing with hematite bioreduction during composting still remain ***,we investigated the redox capacities of compost-derived HS,and assessed the responses of the redox capacities to the hematite *** result showed that compost-derived HS(i.e.,humic acids(HA)and fulvic acids(FA))were able to accept electrons from Shewanella oneidensis MR-1,and the electron accepting capacity was increased during ***,it could be functioned as electron mediators for promoting the hematite bioreduction,achieving 1.19-2.15 times compared with the control *** only the aromatic structures(quinone)but also the non-quinone structures such as nitrogen-and sulfur-containing functional moieties were served as the redox-active functional groups of compost-derived *** work proved that the aromatic functional groups and the heteroatom structures(especially N)were important to the hematite *** study highlights the redox-active properties of compost-derived HS and its impact on the microbial reduction of iron *** capacity of compost-derived HS might mitigate the environmental risk of contaminants when the composting production was added into the contaminated soils as low-cost repair materials.

Precise positioning is the basic condition for intelligent vehicles to complete perception, decision making and control tasks. In response to this challenge, in this article, lidar simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) is taken as the research object, and a SLAM system is designed that integrates motion compensation and ground information removal functions. A loop-closure detection method with a multiresolution point cloud histogram mode is proposed, which can effectively reduce the accumulation of positioning errors during the driving of the intelligent vehicles. We conduct experiments on the well-known KITTI dataset and compare the results with those of state-of-the-art systems. The experiments confirm that the lidar SLAM system designed in this article can provide accurate and effective positioning information for intelligent vehicles. © 2021 IEEE.

The automotive acoustic environment has become an indispensable listening space in people's daily lives. However, due to the complexity of the acoustic environment inside automobiles, the sound reproduction in automobile is particularly problematic compared with that in ordinary domestic environments. From the perspective of sound reproduction, it is an effective approach to improve the reproduction performance by raising the speaker height such that nearer to the height of listener's ear. However, this issue has been less studied quantitatively. In current work, we aim to explore how the speaker height affects the sound field characteristics at target listening region by using the finite element method. The speakers at front door inner panels were mounted to three different heights, respectively, and the sound field characteristics at target listening region in driver seat were analysed. Result showed that for higher speaker layout resulted in larger sound pressure levels at the target listening point, and the sound field distribution tends to be more homogeneous. Also, raising the speaker height is conducive to giving a constant frequency response at the target listening point. This works can provide the reference for the design of automotive audio system. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

To improve the efficiency of safety tests of driver-automation cooperation,a method for generating a scenario library is proposed that considers the probability of scenario occurrence and driver-handling challenges in real driving ***,the original scenario data under cut-in conditions stored in a time series are extracted from the scenario data ***,a mathematical performance index is used to model the scenario and a significance function in terms of the occurrence frequency of the scenario,and the performance challenge between the driver and the vehicle is ***,the important scenario set is extracted from the original scenario set by constructing and optimizing a significance auxiliary ***,the extracted important scenario sets are filtered by using the significance function values of the scenarios to generate a scenario *** results show that the proposed method for scenario library generation can effectively identify scenarios with potential adventure during driver-automation cooperation and thus accelerate safety tests compared with traditional methods.

The control of ethyl acetate emissions from fermentation and extraction processes in the pharmaceutical industry is of great importance to the *** have developed three Mn_(2)O_(3)catalysts by using different Mn precursors(MnCl_(2),Mn(CH_(3)COO)_(2),MnSO_(4)),named as Mn_(2)O_(3)-Cl,-Ac,-SO_(4).The tested catalytic activity results showed a sequence with Mn precursors as:Mn_(2)O_(3)-Cl>Mn_(2)O_(3)-Ac>Mn_(2)O_(3)-SO_(4).The Mn_(2)O_(3)-Cl catalyst reached a complete ethyl acetate conversion at 212℃(75℃lower than that of Mn_(2)O_(3)-SO_(4)),and this high activity 100%could be maintained high at 212℃for at least 100 *** characterization data about the physical properties of catalysts did not show an obvious correlation between the structure and morphology of Mn_(2)O_(3)catalysts and catalytic performance,neither was the surface area the determining factor for catalytic activity in the ethyl acetate *** we firstly found there is a close linear relationship between the catalytic activity and the amount of lattice oxygen species in the ethyl acetate oxidation,indicating that lattice oxygen species were essential for excellent catalytic *** H_(2)temperature-programmed reduction(H_(2)-TPR)results,we found that the lowest initial reduction temperature over the Mn_(2)O_(3)-Cl had stronger oxygen mobility,thus more oxygen species participated in the oxidation reaction,resulting in the highest catalytic *** convenient preparation,high efficiency,and stability,Mn_(2)O_(3)prepared with MnCl_(2)will be a promising catalyst for removing ethyl acetate in practical application.

The role of plant uptake in total phosphorous and total nitrogen removal in vegetated bioretention cells using vetiver and cattail

Bioretention cells have emerged as a prominent strategy for mitigating pollutant loads within urban stormwater runoff. This study delves into the role of plant uptake in the simultaneous removal of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds within these systems. Three bioretention cells—CP, P1, and P2—were constructed using local soil, C33 sand, and gravel. CP served as the unvegetated control, while P1 and P2 were vegetated with vetiver and cattail, respectively. The removal efficiencies of NO₃⁻-N, NH₃⁻-N, NO₂⁻-N, TN, TP, and COD from rainwater were evaluated under saturated and unsaturated conditions. The unvegetated control reactor (CP) achieved TN and TP removal rates of 40.44% and 82.52%, respectively. Reactor P1 (vetiver) demonstrated TN and TP removal rates of 62.92% and 97.19%, respectively. Reactor P2 (cattail) showed TN and TP removal rates of 49.71% and 87.78%, respectively. With the introduction of a saturation zone, TN removal efficiencies increased to 51.69%, 89.22%, and 79.91% for CP, P1, and P2, respectively. However, TP removal efficiencies decreased to 74.81%, 95.04%, and 84.58% for CP, P1, and P2, respectively. Plant tissue uptake tests indicated that vetiver could retain 5 times more TN and twice as much TP compared to cattail. This enhanced performance is attributed to vetiver's high photosynthetic potential as a C4 plant, resilience to varying environmental and nutrient conditions, extensive root network, secretion of oil sesquiterpenes from its root cortex, and the presence of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, which secrete glomalin, a substance that promotes water retention and nutrient uptake. Findings from this study indicate that the efficacy of traditional bioretention cells can be augmented through the strategic selection and integration of locally adapted plant species, coupled with the incorporation of saturation zones, to enhance pollutant removal capabilities and resilience to drought conditions. © 2024

In order to reduce the randomness and fluctuation of wind power, numerical weather prediction is usually used to forecast power generation. Due to the redundancy of numerical weather prediction factors, dimensionality reduction is carried out to improve the effectiveness of data processing and reduce the complexity of algorithm. In this paper, the multicollinearity diagnosis is carried out to show the existence of multicollinearity among numerical weather prediction variables. The ridge regression method is adopted to screen variables, so as to reduce the dimension of numerical weather prediction data, which are trained later by back propagation neural network or convolutional neural network to fit corresponding power data. In comparison with results using training data without preprocessing, dimensionality reduction can improve predicting effect in most cases and reduce the error caused by improper selection of neural network. © 2022 IEEE.

Automotive environment is increasingly becoming an indispensable listening space in our daily life. Affected by the seat occlusions on sound propagation between the front-row and rear-row space, the speech communication between front and rear passengers in automobile is a well-known problem. However, this issue has been paid less attention. To this issue, the numerical simulation is a common, low-cost and high-efficiency technical approach. However, it is a well-known limitation on the effective frequencies to common numerical methods. To extend the region of effective frequencies, a combined approach of the finite element method (FEM) for low-frequency and the ray-tracing method (RTM) for high-frequency (i.e., FEM-RTM) was adopted in current work. The full-bandwidth binaural room impulse responses for a listener in driver's seat were simulated with the speaker at mid-right seats, and both conditions with seats and without seats were taken into account. Result showed that the seats occlusions mainly affected the left ear (i.e., contralateral ear). The seat occlusions reduced the early decay time, speech transmission index and magnitude spectrum for left ear considerably. The inter-aural correlation coefficient under condition without seats was lower than that under condition with seats. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The increasing integration of renewable energy reduces the inertia and frequency support capacity of the power system. The issue of frequency stability has become one of the core issues in the security and stability of power system and the efficient consumption of renewable energy nowadays. To improve the performance of renewable energy power station (REPS), based on the analysis of typical active support control logic and relative performance requirements of REPS with single energy source (SES), an active support control strategy and coordinated control logic of active power of REPS with multiple energy sources (MES) are proposed in this paper. The performance of proposed strategy is theoretically analyzed from the aspect of dominant energy source and the effect of the capacity of energy storage. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy and the accuracy of the theoretical analysis of performance are verified by realtime simulation. © 2023 IEEE.
