The anti-friction function of superwetting surfaces with superhydrophobicity has been ***,the influence regularity of wettability to tribological performance,and the underlying mechanism are still ***,two kinds of microstructured surfaces with different wettability are fabricated on the substrate of steel by controlling surface chemical *** water contact angles on these surfaces range from 0°to 151°.The ball-plate tribological tests are performed under water *** results show that the tribological performance is closely related to surface *** friction coefficient increases with the increase of contact angles when the surfaces are hydrophilic rather than *** contrast,the friction coefficient on the hydrophobic surfaces decreases with the increase of contact ***,the best anti-friction capability is obtained on the superhydrophobic surfaces,and the anti-friction mechanism is *** lowest friction coefficient was 0.12 under the load of 10 *** work provides strong evidence of an association between tribological property and wettability,which may inspire the fabrication and application of special wetting surfaces in friction control.

Inverse kinematics (IK) is at the core of manipulator control theory, with its solution accuracy directly impacting the robot's performance in executing tasks. This is particularly true for complex offset wrist manipulators (OWM), where existing evolutionary computation methods often face limitations in solution efficiency. Additionally, traditional modeling approaches may introduce inherent errors during the solution process, which are amplified through the iterative steps of evolutionary computation, resulting in deviations between the theoretically optimal solution and the actual implementation on robotic platforms. To address these challenges, this letter proposes a novel IK algorithm, TPEDE-IK, which integrates an improved differential evolution algorithm with quaternion-based modeling. The algorithm is designed to handle OWMs with various configurations and degrees of freedom. Experimental results demonstrate that the TPEDE-IK algorithm achieves superior performance on real robotic platforms, significantly improving solution accuracy and providing a robust foundation for future research in robotic control.

Ultraviolet (UV) is widely used for wastewater and reclaimed water disinfection due to its high efficiency. However, some bacteria exhibit strong resistance to UV disinfection (referred to as UV resistant bacteria, or URB), which can survive after disinfection and pose various risks. In this study, two bacterial strains with strong UV resistance (Deinococcus soli and Sphingomonas panni) were isolated from reclaimed water. Neither single UV disinfection nor single chlorine disinfection can effectively inactivate these URB strains. To effectively control URB, the combined disinfection of UV and chlorine was investigated, and the results showed a significant improvement in inactivation efficiency with synergistic effects. Further analysis using total antioxidant capacity tests, qPCR detection, and SYTO9/PI staining techniques revealed that the main mechanism behind the synergistic effects was the enhanced damage to intracellular content and DNA. Finally, through cost analysis and disinfection tests with actual reclaimed water, the performance of the combined disinfection method was comprehensively evaluated. The results demonstrate combined disinfection has lower costs, higher inactivation rates, and less selectivity. This study can provide a reliable method for controlling the risks caused by URB in water. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

While biochar effectively reduces greenhouse gas emissions, the coincident microplastics will alter these benefits. To assess the long-term efficacy of biochar application in reducing emissions amidst microplastic interference, we investigated the interactive effects of polyethylene microplastics (1%–5% wt) and decadal biochar addition (aged biochar) on C and N stability in a Fluvic Cambisol. Aged biochar and polyethylene individually reduced CO2 emissions by 49% and 18%, respectively, over 91-day incubation. This was due to decreased soil aggregation, dissolved organic matter (DOM) content, and increased DOM aromaticity, which reduced microbial biomass and chitinase activity associated with soil organic matter (SOM) decomposition. This ultimately led to increased accumulation of microbial necromass carbon (MNC) to soil stable carbon pool. Interestingly, the coexistence of polyethylene diminished the efficacy of biochar in mitigating CO2 emissions (+ 44 ~ 82%) and stabilizing MNC (-18 ~ 23%). This was because the interaction between polyethylene and biochar facilitated macroaggregate formation and DOM accumulation and decreased DOM aromaticity, which increased microbial biomass and chitinase activity for SOM decomposition. Similar to soil C dynamics, aged biochar largely reduced N2O emissions by 54%, due to decreased nirK but increased nifH genes. Polyethylene increased N2O emissions by 5% and 25% in biochar-free and aged biochar soil, respectively, likely through upregulation of nirS and nirK but downregulating nifH gene expression. Thus, polyethylene microplastics may undermine the benefits of biochar in mitigating climate change, highlighting the necessity to recognize microplastics as a global change factor and to incorporate their role in elemental cycling alongside their global transport. With the deepening of human research on deep space exploration, our research on the soft landing methods of landers has gradually deepened. Adding a buffer and energy-absorbing structure to the leg structure of the lander has become an effective design solution. Based on the energy-absorbing structure of the leg of the interstellar lander, this paper studies the appearance characteristics of the foot-grabbing of the Odontodactylus scyllarus. The foot-grabbing of the Odontodactylus scyllarus can not only hit the prey highly when preying, but also can easily withstand the huge counter-impact force. the predatory foot structure of the Odontodactylus scyllarus, like a symmetrical cone, shows excellent rigidity and energy absorption capacity. Inspired by this discovery, we used SLM technology to design and manufacture two nickel-titanium samples, which respectively showed high elasticity, shape memory, and better energy absorption capacity. This research provides an effective way to design and manufacture high-mechanical energy-absorbing buffer structures using bionic 3D printing technology and nickel-titanium alloys. © 2021, CC BY.

Morphological Development of Fuel Droplets after Impacting Biomimetic Structured Surfaces with Different Temperatures

To improve the controllability for the evaporation process of fuel spray impinging on the cylinder wall,an experimental study on the development of morphological process of different fuel droplets on aluminium alloy surfaces is carried *** metal surfaces with different wettability are prepared by laser etching and chemical etching for the *** total,three different fuels are tested and compared under different surface temperatures,including diesel,n-butanol and dimethyl carbonate(DMC).The results show that under a lower wall temperature,the surface wettability,viscosity and surface tension of the fuels have significant effects on spreading and rebounding behaviour of the *** the wall temperature rises over the boiling points of the fuel but below its Leidenfrost temperature,the contact angles between the fuels and surfaces are varying according to the surface wettability,boiling point and Leidenfrost temperature of the *** the temperature of the surface exceeds the Leidenfrost temperature of all the fuels,after impacting the surfaces,different fuel droplets tend to have the same development pattern,regardless of the surface *** rebound level is mainly affected by the amount of fuel vapour generated during the wall-hitting ***,surface tension and other properties of the fuel have little effect on post-impacting behaviour of the droplet when the wall temperature is higher than the Leidenfrost temperature of the fuel.

Doping and interface engineering are both pivotal strategies for enhancing the selectivity of CO₂ reduction catalysts. However, as these strategies have often been explored independently, the question of which is more effective or whether their effects can be synergistically combined remains open. Given that doping and interfaces serve as crystallographic defects, they can be engineered to coexist within the same crystal structure. In this study, we strategically introduced both defects into a copper catalyst by modulating the indium content during crystal growth. Our investigation into the electrochemical performance of these catalysts for CO conversion reveals that while doping consistently enhances conversion selectivity, the presence of Cu/In interfaces disrupts this trend. The most promising catalyst, with 3% indium doping, demonstrated an impressive CO selectivity of 95.38±1.5% and a partial current density of -2.25 mA cm^-² at -0.8 V vs. Reversible Hydrogen Electrode (RHE). This research provides critical insights into the complex interplay between doping and interface engineering, offering a new pathway for the rational design of highly selective CO₂ reduction catalysts. © 2025

Enhanced phosphate removal using zirconium hydroxide encapsulated in quaternized cellulose

Enhancing the electrical performance of silicone rubber (SiR) for cable accessories is noteworthy as they are almost the weakest parts of the cable system. Two types of voltage stabilizers were grafted onto the surface of nano-zirconia (ZrO 2 ) particles, and the grafted nanoparticles were added to the SiR. Measurements such as breakdown strength, and conductivity were carried out to evaluate the electrical performance of SiR nanocomposites. The electrical performance measurement results indicated that the breakdown strength of the nanocomposite SiR improved while the conductance current was reduced. The trap distribution showed that the improvement of the electrical performance of the nanocomposite SiR is mainly due to the decrease of the shallow trap density or the increase of the deep trap density.
