Land areas on our planet are facing unprecedented levels of *** than70%of the global ice-free land has been affected by human activities,30%of the land is threatened by degradation,biodiversity and other ecosystem services(ESs) are declining,and climate change is altering ecosystem functioning [1].Currently,agriculture is the dominant form of land use,with grazing land comprising27%and cropland 12%(and more than half of the cropland is used to produce animal feed).Agriculture is responsible for about one-third of global greenhouse gas(GHG) emissions [2] and it is the primary driver of deforestation,habitat destruction,global freshwater withdrawals,and global ocean and freshwater pollution [3].As land is a limited resource,

Influences of CeO_(2)morphology on enhanced performance of electro-Fenton for wastewater treatment

As a kind of rare-earth oxide,CeO_(2)has been considered as a great potential material for its abundant oxygen vacancies and catalysis activity in wastewater *** this study,three ceria samples with different morphological structure were prepared,and their effect on contaminates degradation in electro-Fenton(E-Fenton)system was *** is found that the morphology of CeO_(2)has great influence on promoting the performance of E-Fenton *** rod-like CeO_(2)(R-CeO_(2))induced EFenton system shows higher azo dye X3 B removal and mineralization rates than cubs(C-CeO_(2))and octahedrons(O-CeO_(2)),and the degradation kinetic rate constants are 0.28,0.169 and 0.181 min^(-1)respectively,already surpass that of the blank one(0.120 min^(-1)).The H_(2)O_(2)generation capacity of R-CeO_(2)induced E-Fenton system is also superior to the others,and the corresponding Faraday current efficiency even increases to 166.2%at 2.5 *** by scanning-transmission electron microscopy(STEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),electron spin resonance(ESR),Raman spectroscopy were conducted to disclose the mystery behind this *** results indicate that the difference of surface oxygen vacancy density in different shaped CeO_(2)acts as a magic driving force for the accelerated oxygen reduction,and then leads to the enhanced degradation efficiency of E-Fenton *** work provides a new insight into the development and application of rare-earth elements based catalyst in E-Fenton technology.

The effective utilization of solar energy for hydrogen production requires an abundant supply of thermodynamically active photo-electrons;however,the photocatalysts are generally impeded by insufficient light absorption and fast photocarrier ***,we report a multiple-regulated strategy to capture photons and boost photocarrier dynamics by devel-oping a broadband photocatalyst composed of defect engineered g-C_(3)N_(4)(DCN)and upconversion NaYF4:Yb^(3+),Tm^(3+)(NYF)*** a precise defect engineering,the S dopants and C vacancies jointly render DCN with defect states to effectively extend the visible light absorption to 590 nm and boost photocarrier separation via a moderate electron-trapping ability,thus facilitating the subsequent re-absorption and utilization of upconverted photons/***,we found a promoted interfacial charge polarization between DCN and NYF has also been achieved mainly due to Y-N interaction,which further favors the upconverted excited energy transfer from NYF onto DCN as verified both theoretically and *** a 3D architecture,the NYF@DCN catalyst exhibits a superior solar H2 evolution rate among the reported upconversion-based system,which is 19.3 and 1.5 fold higher than bulk material and DCN,*** work provides an innovative strategy to boost solar utilization by using defect engineering and building up interaction between hetero-materials.

Mechanism of Iron Ions Redox Cycle on the Anaerobic Degradation of 3, 5, 6-Trichloro-2-Pyridinol by Pseudomonas Aeruginosa D-2

The sluggish metabolism of 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol (TCP) in anoxic or anaerobic environments represents a significant challenge in bioremediation of TCP-contaminated habitats. Although the promotion of anaerobic biodegradation by insoluble iron minerals has been recognized, the impact and mechanisms of soluble iron ions remain poorly understood. Herein, the soluble Fe(II) was firstly incorporated into the anaerobic biodegradation of TCP by Pseudomonas aeruginosa D-2 and its response of TCP metabolism to the introduction of Fe(II) were investigated. The Fe(II) ion significantly enhanced the anaerobic biodegradation of TCP (50 mg/L) with the removal efficiency increasing from 50.24% to 80.32% within 72 h, along with noticeable cellular proliferation. Interestingly, this process was accompanied by a dynamic equilibrium transformation between Fe(II) and Fe(III). Further study revealed TCP's dechlorination metabolite was substantially degraded by strain D-2 coexisting with Fe(III), concurrently with the reduction of Fe(III) to Fe(II). These findings suggested the iron ions redox cycle significantly promoted the anaerobic biodegradation of TCP. Moreover, metabolomics analysis conformed strain D-2 could perform anaerobic reductive dechlorination of TCP. More importantly, genomic and transcriptomic analyses first revealed Fe(II) markedly enriched energy metabolism pathways, such as TCA cycle and oxidative phosphorylation, and obviously up-regulated some iron-dependent enzymes crucial for ring-cleaving and energy metabolism. These up-regulation may provide ample energy (ATP) and reducing power for the cell growth and the initiation of reductive dechlorination of TCP. This study revealed the effects and mechanism for promoting TCP anaerobic respiration activity by the iron ions redox cycle, acting as an 'energy buffer, in bioremediation of halogenated aromatic contaminants. © 2025, The Authors. Structural and Interfacial Microenvironment Modulation of Two-Dimensional Layered Niobium Phosphate to Enhance Uranium Adsorption

To address the environmental and resource challenges arising from the advancement of the nuclear power industry, it becomes imperative to foster the development of efficient and expeditious materials for uranium adsorption. Here, for the first time, a kind of niobium phosphate with improvement of interlayer spacing and hydrophilicity (NbP-8) is employed by crystal phase modulation for uranium adsorption, which synergistically realizes structural and interfacial microenvironment modulation. Characterizations demonstrate that the expanded interlayer spacing contributes to accommodation of uranyl which increases adsorption capacity, and the enhanced hydrophilicity reduces infiltration time and greatly accelerates the adsorption rate. Consequently, NbP-8 possesses exceptional adsorption capacity of 1470.39 mg g-1, ultra-fast adsorption rate with an equilibrium time of 1 min and high selectivity, delivering one of the best phosphate uranium adsorbents. Moreover, this work opens a new venue for optimizing performance of phosphate by changing the crystal phase to modulate structure and interfacial microenvironment for uranium adsorption. © 2024, The Authors. Stealthy False Data Injection Attacks Against the Summation Detector in Cyber-Physical Systems

This article proposes an alternating false data injection attack strategy, which can bypass the summation detector in cyber-physical systems. This attack strategy offsets the impact on historical residuals by constantly changing the attack direction, and therefore invalidates the summation detector integrating historical information to detect the well-designed stealthy attacks. In the simulation, the proposed attack strategy reduces the increment of cumulative summation of residuals by 70% compared to the classical stealthy attack strategy, and bypasses both the χ2} detector and the summation detector. Furthermore, from a more general perspective, by proposing an almost completely stealthy attack strategy to make the residual information almost unchanged, this article proves that residual based detection methods regardless of single-step residual based ones nor historical residual based ones cannot fully detect false data injection attacks. © 2023 IEEE.

The distributed nonconvex optimization problem of minimizing a global cost function formed by a sum of n local cost functions by using local information exchange is *** problem is an important component of many machine learning techniques with data parallelism,such as deep learning and federated *** propose a distributed primal-dual stochastic gradient descent(SGD)algorithm,suitable for arbitrarily connected communication networks and any smooth(possibly nonconvex)cost *** show that the proposed algorithm achieves the linear speedup convergence rate O(1/(√nT))for general nonconvex cost functions and the linear speedup convergence rate O(1/(nT)) when the global cost function satisfies the Polyak-Lojasiewicz(P-L)condition,where T is the total number of *** also show that the output of the proposed algorithm with constant parameters linearly converges to a neighborhood of a global *** demonstrate through numerical experiments the efficiency of our algorithm in comparison with the baseline centralized SGD and recently proposed distributed SGD algorithms.

Solar thermal interfacial water evaporation is proposed as a promising route to address freshwater scarcity,which can reduce energy consumption and have unlimited application *** large semiconductor family with controllable bandgap and good chemo-physical stability are considered as good candidates for ***,the evaporation rate is not satisfactory because the rational control of nano/micro structure and composition is still in its infancy ***,by systemically analyzing the photo-thermal evaporation processes,we applied the hollow multishelled structure(HoMS)into this *** from the multishelled and hierarchical porous structure,the light absorption,thermal regulation,and water transport are simultaneously optimized,resulting in a water evaporation rate of 3.2 kg·m^(-2)·h^(-1),which is among the best performance in solar-vapour *** collected water from different water resources meets the World Health Organization standard for drinkable ***,by using the CuO/Cu_(2)O system,reactive oxygen species were generated for water disinfection,showing a new route for efficient solar-vapour generation and a green way to obtain safe drinking water.
