Medical image registration is vital for disease diagnosis and treatment with its ability to merge diverse information of images, which may be captured under different times, angles, or modalities. Although several surveys have reviewed the development of medical image registration, these surveys have not systematically summarized methodologies of existing medical image registration methods. To this end, we provide a comprehensive review of these methods from traditional and deep learning-based directions, aiming to help audiences understand the development of medical image registration quickly. In particular, we review recent advances in retinal image registration at the end of each section, which has not attracted much attention. Additionally, we also discuss the current challenges of retinal image registration and provide insights and prospects for future research. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

Accurate parasitic capacitance extraction becomes increasingly essential in advanced technology nodes. 2.5D ex-traction requires more effort to maintain accuracy comparable to the 3D solver. In this work, two experiments reveal that error deviation in the 2.5D method enlarges as wire width shrinks and length increases. A novel Gauss law-based point cloud is proposed to model the 3D capacitance problem. With the proposed data representation, a transformer-based neural network architecture, called PCT-Cap, is designed for 3D pattern matching. PCT-Cap exhibits much better performance than the ResNet-based capacitance models. Extensive experiments on 28nm technology demonstrate that PCT-Cap can accurately predict over 95.41 % of total capacitance with an error margin of less than 5 %. Additionally, PCT-Cap achieves 95.90 % accuracy in predicting coupling capacitance within a margin of error of less than 10%. PCT-Cap achieves at least a 55 × speeding up compared with the commercial extraction tool while consuming negligible memory.

Beyond Model Scale Limits: End-Edge-Cloud Federated Learning with Self-Rectified Knowledge Agglomeration

The rise of End-Edge-Cloud Collaboration (EECC) offers a promising paradigm for Artificial Intelligence (AI) model training across end devices, edge servers, and cloud data centers, providing enhanced reliability and reduced latency. Hierarchical Federated Learning (HFL) can benefit from this paradigm by enabling multi-tier model aggregation across distributed computing nodes. However, the potential of HFL is significantly constrained by the inherent heterogeneity and dynamic characteristics of EECC environments. Specifically, the uniform model structure bounded by the least powerful end device across all computing nodes imposes a performance bottleneck. Meanwhile, coupled heterogeneity in data distributions and resource capabilities across tiers disrupts hierarchical knowledge transfer, leading to biased updates and degraded performance. Furthermore, the mobility and fluctuating connectivity of computing nodes in EECC environments introduce complexities in dynamic node migration, further compromising the robustness of the training process. To address multiple challenges within a unified framework, we propose End-Edge-Cloud Federated Learning with Self-Rectified Knowledge Agglomeration (FedEEC), which is a novel EECC-empowered FL framework that allows the trained models from end, edge, to cloud to grow larger in size and stronger in generalization ability. FedEEC introduces two key innovations: (1) Bridge Sample Based Online Distillation Protocol (BSBODP), which enables knowledge transfer between neighboring nodes through generated bridge samples, and (2) Self-Knowledge Rectification (SKR), which refines the transferred knowledge to prevent suboptimal cloud model optimization. The proposed framework effectively handles both cross-tier resource heterogeneity and effective knowledge transfer between neighboring nodes, while satisfying the migration-resilient requirements of EECC. Preventing network attacks and protecting user privacy are consistently hot research topics in the Internet of Things (IoT) and edge computing fields. Recent advancements in Federated Learning (FL) have shown promise in addressing these challenges. FL allows various clients to collaboratively build an intrusion detection system (IDS) without sharing their private data. However, most existing methods train a single intrusion detection model for all clients and assume that the training and test data distribution are identical, leading to unsatisfactory detection accuracy and generalization abilities in practice. To overcome these challenges, this paper introduces a prototype-guided personalized FL approach named PG-FedIDS. We propose two novel mechanisms within this method. Firstly, we utilize class prototypes as auxiliary information carriers to generate personalized models for each client, rather than generating a single global model as in previous works. Secondly, we propose a prototype-guided ensemble learning strategy, which can leverage the global knowledge in prototypes to enhance detection accuracy and generalization abilities for each client. We conduct extensive experiments on two benchmark datasets with different evaluation test settings. The results demonstrate that our PG-FedIDS achieves promising detection accuracy and consistently outperforms other FL baselines.

This paper introduces OpenLS-DGF, an adaptive logic synthesis dataset generation framework, to enhance machine learning (ML) applications within the logic synthesis process. Previous dataset generation flows were tailored for specific tasks or lacked integrated ML capabilities. While OpenLS-DGF supports various machine learning tasks by encapsulating the three fundamental steps of logic synthesis: Boolean representation, logic optimization, and technology mapping. It preserves the original information in both Verilog and ML-friendly GraphML formats. The Verilog files offer semi-customizable capabilities, enabling researchers to insert additional steps and incrementally refine the generated dataset. Furthermore, OpenLS-DGF includes an adaptive circuit engine that facilitates the final dataset management and downstream tasks. The generated OpenLS-D-v1 dataset comprises 46 combinational designs from established benchmarks, totaling over 966,000 Boolean circuits. OpenLS-D-v1 supports integrating new data features, making it more versatile for new tasks. This paper demonstrates the versatility of OpenLS-D-v1 through four distinct downstream tasks: circuit classification, circuit ranking, quality of results (QoR) prediction, and probability prediction. Each task is chosen to represent essential steps of logic synthesis, and the experimental results show the generated dataset from OpenLSDGF achieves prominent diversity and applicability. Dynamic Erasing Network Based on Multi-Scale Temporal Features for Weakly Supervised Video Anomaly Detection

The goal of weakly supervised video anomaly detection is to learn a detection model using only video-level labeled data. However, prior studies typically divide videos into fixed-length segments without considering the complexity or duration of anomalies. Moreover, these studies usually just detect the most abnormal segments, potentially overlooking the completeness of anomalies. To address these limitations, we propose a Dynamic Erasing Network (DE-Net) for weakly supervised video anomaly detection, which learns multi-scale temporal features. Specifically, to handle duration variations of abnormal events, we first propose a multi-scale temporal modeling module, capable of extracting features from segments of varying lengths and capturing both local and global visual information across different temporal scales. Then, we design a dynamic erasing strategy, which dynamically assesses the completeness of the detected anomalies and erases prominent abnormal segments in order to encourage the model to discover gentle abnormal segments in a video. The proposed method obtains favorable performance compared to several state-of-the-art approaches on three datasets: XD-Violence, TAD, and UCF-Crime. Interpersonal relationship quality is pivotal in social and occupational contexts. Existing analysis of interpersonal relationships mostly rely on subjective self-reports, whereas objective quantification remains challenging. In this paper, we propose a novel social relationship analysis framework using spatio-temporal patterns derived from dyadic EEG signals, which can be applied to quantitatively measure team cooperation in corporate team building, and evaluate interpersonal dynamics between therapists and patients in psychiatric therapy. First, we constructed a dyadic-EEG dataset from 72 pairs of participants with two relationships (stranger or friend) when watching emotional videos simultaneously. Then we proposed a deep neural network on dyadic-subject EEG signals, in which we combine the dynamic graph convolutional neural network for characterizing the interpersonal relationships among the EEG channels and 1-dimension convolution for extracting the information from the time sequence. To obtain the feature vectors from two EEG recordings that well represent the relationship of two subjects, we integrate deep canonical correlation analysis and triplet loss for training the network. Experimental results show that the social relationship type (stranger or friend) between two individuals can be effectively identified through their EEG data. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Divide-and-conquer variational quantum algorithms for large-scale electronic structure simulations

Exploring the potential application of quantum computers in material design and drug discovery has attracted a lot of interest in the age of quantum computing. However, the quantum resource requirement for solving practical electronic structure problems are far beyond the capacity of near-term quantum devices. In this work, we integrate the divide-and-conquer (DC) approaches into the variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) for large-scale quantum computational chemistry simulations. Two popular divide-and-conquer schemes, including many-body expansion (MBE) fragmentation theory and density matrix embedding theory (DMET), are employed to divide complicated problems into many small parts that are easy to implement on near-term quantum computers. Pilot applications of these methods to systems consisting of tens of atoms are performed with adaptive VQE algorithms. This work should encourage further studies of using the philosophy of DC to solve electronic structure problems on quantum computers. © 2022, CC BY.

Dynamic data-sharing based user recruitment in mobile crowdsensing

Mobile crowdsensing(MCS) has become an emerging paradigm to solve urban sensing problems by leveraging the ubiquitous sensing capabilities of the crowd. One critical issue in MCS is how to recruit users to fulfill more sensing tasks with budget restriction, while sharing data among tasks can be a credible way to improve the efficiency. The data-sharing based user recruitment problem under budget constraint in a realistic scenario is studied, where multiple tasks require homogeneous data but have various spatio-temporal execution ranges, meanwhile users suffer from uncertain future positions. The problem is formulated in a manner of probability by predicting user mobility, then a dynamic user recruitment algorithm is proposed to solve it. In the algorithm a greedy-adding-and-substitution(GAS) heuristic is repeatedly implemented by updating user mobility prediction in each time slot to gradually achieve the final solution. Extensive simulations are conducted using a real-world taxi trace dataset, and the results demonstrate that the approach can fulfill more tasks than existing methods.
