Deep learning has significantly advanced the audio classification, achieving remarkable results. However, these successes often rely on extensive manual annotation of audio, a labor-intensive and costly process. Active Learning (AL) presents a promising solution by minimizing the required amount of annotation through the iterative selection of the most informative audio samples. Current AL methods for audio classification typically depend solely on the latest model checkpoint, overlooking the dynamics of the entire training process. The Complementary Learning Systems (CLS) theory posits that the interplay between short-term and long-term memory systems can effectively measure sample uncertainty, offering a means to capture training dynamics. In this work, we introduce a novel AL framework for audio classification, termed CLS-AL, which addresses the limitations of existing methods by simultaneously maintaining both short-term and long-term memory models. This dual-memory approach allows for a more comprehensive consideration of training dynamics. The divergence in predictions between these memory models provides a new metric for evaluating the uncertainty of unlabeled samples, enhancing the effectiveness of the AL sample selection process. We demonstrate the effectiveness and generalizability of CLS-AL through extensive experiments on a diverse set of audio datasets, showing that CLS-AL obviously outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods. © 2025 IEEE.

This article presents a new optical integrated sensing and communication (O-ISAC) framework tailored for cost-effective light-emitting diode (LED) for enhanced Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Unlike prior research on ISAC, which predominantly focused on radio frequency (RF) band, O-ISAC capitalizes on the inherent advantages of the optical spectrum, including the ultrawide license-free bandwidth, immunity to RF interference, and energy efficiency—attributes crucial for IoT communications. The communication and sensing in our O-ISAC system unfold in two phases: 1) directionless O-ISAC and 2) directional O-ISAC. In the first phase, distributed optical access points emit nondirectional light for communication and leverage small-aperture imaging principles for sensing. In the second phase, we put forth the concept of optical beamforming, using collimating lenses to concentrate light, resulting in substantial performance enhancements in both communication and sensing. Numerical and simulation results demonstrate the feasibility and impressive performance of O-ISAC benchmarked against optical separate communication and sensing systems. © 2014 IEEE.

Graph Augmentation Empowered Contrastive Learning for Recommendation

The application of contrastive learning (CL) to collaborative filtering (CF) in recommender systems has achieved remarkable success. CL-based recommendation models mainly focus on creating multiple augmented views by employing different graph augmentation methods and utilizing these views for self-supervised learning. However, current CL methods for recommender systems usually struggle to fully address the problem of noisy data. To address this problem, we propose the Graph Augmentation Empowered Contrastive Learning (GAECL) for recommendation framework, which uses graph augmentation based on topological and semantic dual adaptation and global co-modeling via structural optimization to co-create contrasting views for better augmentation of the CF paradigm. Specifically, we strictly filter out unimportant topologies by reconstructing the adjacency matrix and mask unimportant attributes in nodes according to the PageRank centrality principle to generate an augmented view that filters out noisy data. Additionally, GAECL achieves global collaborative modeling through structural optimization and generates another augmented view based on the PageRank centrality principle. This helps to filter the noisy data while preserving the original semantics of the data for more effective data augmentation. Extensive experiments are conducted on five datasets to demonstrate the superior performance of our model over various recommendation models. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Regular expressions (regexes) are a fundamental concept across the fields of computer science. However, they can also induce the Regular expression Denial of Service (Re-DoS) attacks, which are a class of denial of service attacks, caused by super-linear worst-case matching time. Due to the severity and prevalence of ReDoS attacks, the detection of ReDoS-vulnerable regexes in software is thus vital. Although various ReDoS detection approaches have been proposed, these methods have focused mainly on backtracking regex engines, leaving the problem of ReDoS vulnerability detection on non-backtracking regex engines largely *** address the above challenges, in this paper, we first systematically analyze the major causes that could contribute to ReDoS vulnerabilities on non-backtracking regex engines. We then propose a novel type of ReDoS attack strings that builds on the concept of simple strings. Next we propose EVILSTRGEN, a tool for generating attack strings for ReDoS-vulnerable regexes on non-backtracking engines. It is based on a novel incremental determinisation algorithm with heuristic strategies to lazily find the k-simple strings without explicit construction of finite automata. We evaluate EVILSTRGEN against six state-of-the-art approaches on a broad range of publicly available datasets containing 736,535 unique regexes. The results illustrate the significant efficacy of our tool. We also apply our tool to 85 intensively-tested projects, and have identified 34 unrevealed ReDoS vulnerabilities.

Recently, graph neural networks(GNNs) have played a key crucial in many recommendation situations. In particular, contrastive learning-based hypergraph neural networks (HGNNs) are gradually becoming a research focus for addressing issues of data sparsity and noise. Despite many studies proving their outstanding performance, there are still some shortcomings: i) Most contrastive learning-based HGNNs primarily rely on cross-view contrastive learning, while neglecting contrastive learning on the interaction graph. ii) Utilizing node embedding for hypergraph structure learning is susceptible to the influence of low-quality representations, thereby constraining the learning capability of HGNNs. To address these issues, we offer a Semantic Similarity-based Graph Contrastive Learning framework (SSGCL), which aims to jointly learn representations with rich semantic information through within-view and cross-view contrastive learning. Specifically, we first introduce consistency contrastive learning, which captures self-supervised signals through semantic similarity between nodes and their neighborhoods. It better captures the unique features of nodes through the connections between nodes and their neighborhoods. Then, we utilize interaction graph learning hypergraph structure, promoting it to extract potential node connections and thus improving its ability to describe homogeneous node relationships. This paper presents new variants of the Welch-Berlekamp algorithm that are favorable to hardware implementation. First, we derive the parallel Welch-Berlekamp (PWB) algorithm in a constructive manner based on the properties of solutions to the rational interpolation problem. The algorithm features the simultaneously performed discrepancy computation and polynomial update. Second, we explore the early-termination mechanism of the PWB algorithm for decoding of Reed-Solomon (RS) codes. By introducing the concept of incomplete error locator polynomial, we show that if e ≤ t (where e is the number of errors and t is the error correction capability), the PWB algorithm can be terminated at latest at the completion of the (t+ e) -th iteration. This leads to the early-terminating PWB (EPWB) algorithm. Finally, we develop frequency-domain versions of the PWB and EPWB algorithms, namely, FPWB and FEPWB. The key point toward the two algorithms is to replace the update of polynomial coefficients with the update of polynomial evaluations. It is worth noting that the FEPWB algorithm applies only to shortened RS codes. Furthermore, an efficient systolic architecture for the FPWB algorithm is designed, which is easily adapted for the FEPWB algorithm. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Coded Beam Training for RIS Assisted Wireless Communications

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is considered as one of the key technologies for future 6G communications. To fully unleash the performance of RIS, accurate channel state information (CSI) is crucial. Beam training is widely utilized to acquire the CSI. However, before aligning the beam correctly to establish stable connections, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at UE is inevitably low, which reduces the beam training accuracy. To deal with this problem, we exploit the coded beam training framework for RIS systems, which leverages the error correction capability of channel coding to improve the beam training accuracy under low SNR. Specifically, we first extend the coded beam training framework to RIS systems by decoupling the base station-RIS channel and the RIS-user channel. For this framework, codewords that accurately steer to multiple angles is essential for fully unleashing the error correction capability. In order to realize effective codeword design in RIS systems, we then propose a new codeword design criterion, based on which we propose a relaxed Gerchberg-Saxton (GS) based codeword design scheme by considering the constant modulus constraints of RIS elements. In addition, considering the two dimensional structure of RIS, we further propose a dimension reduced encoder design scheme, which can not only guarentee a better beam shape, but also enable a stronger error correction capability. Simulation results reveal that the proposed scheme can realize effective and accurate beam training in low SNR scenarios. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Traditional knowledge graph (KG) completion models learn embeddings to predict missing facts. Recent works attempt to complete KGs in a text-generation manner with large language models (LLMs). However, they need to ground the output of LLMs to KG entities, which inevitably brings errors. In this paper, we present a finetuning framework, DIFT, aiming to unleash the KG completion ability of LLMs and avoid grounding errors. Given an incomplete fact, DIFT employs a lightweight model to obtain candidate entities and finetunes an LLM with discrimination instructions to select the correct one from the given candidates. To improve performance while reducing instruction data, DIFT uses a truncated sampling method to select useful facts for finetuning and injects KG embeddings into the LLM. Extensive experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed framework. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Knowledge graphs (KGs) are widely acknowledged as incomplete, and new entities are constantly emerging in the real world. Inductive KG reasoning aims to predict missing facts for these new entities. Among existing models, graph neural networks (GNNs) based ones have shown promising performance for this task. However, they are still challenged by inefficient message propagation due to the distance and scalability issues. In this paper, we propose a new inductive KG reasoning model, MStar, by leveraging conditional message passing neural networks (C-MPNNs). Our key insight is to select multiple query-specific starting entities to expand the scope of progressive propagation. To propagate query-related messages to a farther area within limited steps, we subsequently design a highway layer to propagate information toward these selected starting entities. Moreover, we introduce a training strategy called LinkVerify to mitigate the impact of noisy training samples. Experimental results validate that MStar achieves superior performance compared with state-of-the-art models, especially for distant entities. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
