Consensus problems of first-order multi-agent systems with multiple time delays are investigated in this paper. We discuss three cases: 1) continuous, 2) discrete, and 3) a continuous system with a proportional plus derivative controller. In each case, the system contains simultaneous communication and input time delays. Supposing a dynamic multi-agent system with directed topology that contains a globally reachable node, the sufficient convergence condition of the system is discussed with respect to each of the three cases based on the generalized Nyquist criterion and the frequency-domain analysis approach, yielding conclusions that are either less conservative than or agree with previously published results. We know that the convergence condition of the system depends mainly on each agent’s input time delay and the adjacent weights but is independent of the communication delay between agents, whether the system is continuous or discrete. Finally, simulation examples are given to verify the theoretical analysis.

DRAM row buffer conflicts can increase memory access latency significantly. This paper presents a new pageallocation-based optimization that works seamlessly together with some existing hardware and software optimizations to eliminate significantly more row buffer conflicts. Validation in simulation using a set of selected scientific and engineering benchmarks against a few representative memory controller optimizations shows that our method can reduce row buffer miss rates by up to 76% (with an average of 37.4%). This reduction in row buffer miss rates will be translated into performance speedups by up to 15% (with an average of 5%).

To have good performance and scalability, parallel applications should be sophisticatedly optimized to exploit intra-node parallelism and reduce inter-node communication on multicore clusters. This paper investigates the automatic tuning of the sparse matrix-vector(Sp MV) multiplication kernel implemented in a partitioned global address space language, which supports a hybrid thread- and process-based communication layer for multicore systems. One-sided communication is used for inter-node data exchange, while intra-node communication uses a mix of process shared memory and multithreading. We develop performance models to facilitate selecting the best configuration of threads and processes hybridization as well as the best communication pattern for Sp MV. As a result, our tuned Sp MV in the hybrid runtime environment consumes less memory and reduces inter-node communication volume, without damaging the data locality. Experiments are conducted on 12 real sparse matrices. On 16-node Xeon and 8-node Opteron clusters, our tuned Sp MV kernel gets on average 1.4X and 1.5X improvement in performance over the well-optimized process-based message-passing implementation, respectively.

Considering the fact that free calcium oxide content is an important parameter to evaluate the quality of cement clinker, it is very significant to predict the change of free calcium oxide content through adjusting the parameters of processing technique. In fact, the making process of cement clinker is very complex. Therefore, it is very difficult to describe this relationship using the conventional mathematical methods. Using several models, i e, linear regression model, nonlinear regression model, Back Propagation neural network model, and Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural network model, we investigated the possibility to predict the free calcium oxide content according to selected parameters of the production process. The results indicate that RBF neural network model can predict the free lime content with the highest precision (1.3%) among all the models.

Ever-increasing demands on bandwidth compel us to improve the bandwidth utilization of access networks. It is more important to enhance the efficiency of passive optical networks(PON) than other access technologies, as they are the primary solutions to various access scenarios. To satisfy the demands of improved bandwidth efficiency, we propose a dual-layer(data link layer and network layer) efficiency enhancement scheme for future PON system. Under this architecture, a data-link-layer flexible coding scheme is introduced to extend the downstream link throughput, and a network-layer centralized active queue management(AQM) scheme is introduced to increase bandwidth efficiency. Both of these technologies are designed to suit the future centralized cooperative control mode. The results of an experimental demonstration of the network coding PON scheme reveal the efficiency of the proposed architecture. The results of simulations show that the centralized AQM scheme has a positive influence on queuing delay and jitter. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that a data link layer mechanism and a network layer policy have been integrated to provide high efficiency and quality of service in access networks.

Terahertz generation driven by dual-color filaments in air is demonstrated to be remarkably enhanced by applying an external electric field to the filaments. As terahertz generation is sensitive to the dual-color phase difference, a preformed plasma is verified efficiently in modulating terahertz radiation from linear to elliptical polarization. In the presence of preformed plasma, a dual-color filament generates terahertz pulses of elliptical polarization and the corresponding ellipse rotates regularly with the change of the preformed plasma density. The observed terahertz modulation with the external electric field and the preformed plasma provides a simple way to estimate the plasma density and evaluate the photocurrent dynamics of the dual-color filaments. It provides further experimental evidence of the photo-current model in governing the dual-color filament driven terahertz generation processes.
