GPU-BASED TIME PARALLEL CACHE SIMULATOR

We present the design of time parallel trace-driven cache simulation for the purpose of evaluating different cache architectures. Due to the long simulation cycles, traditional sequential simulation methods are no longer practical. An obvious way to achieve fast parallel simulation is time parallel. It splits the whole trace into small slices which are assigned to parallel processors for concurrent simulation. In this paper, we introduce a novel time parallel multiconfiguration simulation on single pass method. It exploits time partitioning as the main sources of parallelism and takes the full advantage of the computational capability offered by the Compute Unified Device architecture (CUDA) on the GPU. Our experimental results demonstrate that the cache simulator based on GPU platform gains 1.91x performance improvement compared to traditional serial algorithm.

This paper is to develop an ontology-based mobile environment for collaborative product design and manufacture, which enables geographically dispersed team members to collaborate over the internet within the total design or manufacturing process, including product design specification, conceptual design, detail design, manufacture and recycling. In this paper, a database which based on a new method named ontology is built up to demonstrate the all related information in order to achieve an efficient and convenient management. According these two achievements, a new data management system is built and tested in the mobile device and compared to the traditional data management system at the end of this paper.

Statistical static timing analysis (SSTA) considering process variation and aging effects is usually used to analyze circuit lifetime reliability at design phase. A key challenge for statistical lifetime reliability analysis is that an accurate statistical timing model is needed to carefully model practical variation distribution as well as delay correlation. In this work, P2CLRAF, a circuit lifetime reliability analysis framework is proposed. It calibrates presilicon SSTA result by learning the collected data from path delay testing at post-silicon timing validation phase. A neural network inside P2CLRAF is trained to learn variation distribution and delay correlation based on the statistic of path delay testing. The learned information is then fed back to SSTA to further improve the accuracy of circuit lifetime reliability analysis. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed analysis framework.

XLPE power cable sample and electrode system were designed and built to simulate electrical treeing in actual XLPE cables. Results showed that the testing system can meet research requirements on electrical treeing. Electrical treeing tests on samples of 15kV XLPE power cables were carried out at power frequency of voltages between 12kV and 21kV and the influence of voltage on morphology of electrical trees was analyzed, In addition, partial discharge (PD) patterns of electrical trees during tree growth were also studied. It has been found that propagation of electrical trees can be divided into four stages. The maximal discharging-phase distributions, average discharging-phase distributions and statistical parameters derived from PD distributions were presented. The results showed that in actual XLPE power cable, the effect of voltage si similar to needle-plate electrode system on morphology of electrical trees, however, there are some differences in propagation process of electrical trees, and sk value of the maximal discharging-phase distributions decreases with the propagation of electrical trees, which may potentially be considered as a parameter to diagnose electrical tree propagation stages.

This paper presented a novel approach to recognize ultra-high-frequency (UHF) signals of partial discharges (PDs). Four artificial insulation defect models were designed to generate PD UHF signals, which were detected by a Peano fractal antenna in experiments. Wavelet packet (WP) decomposition was used to decompose PD UHF signals into multiple scales. A group of energy parameters and fractal dimensions of PD UHF signals were computed and used as the input parameters of a support vector machine (SVM), which was used as the PD pattern classifier. For verifying the results of this approach, a back-propagation neural network (BPNN) was also used for pattern recognition of PD UHF signals. The recognition results showed that the SVM and the proposed parameters were qualified for PD pattern recognition and the SVM had advantages over the BPNN for the purpose.

This paper presented a novel polydimethylsiloxane /nano-silica (PDMS/nano-silica) hybrid super-hydrophobic coating for anti-icing on insulators. Average water contact angle on the super-hydrophobic PDMS/nano-silica hybrid coating reached 161°. The super-hydrophobic PDMS/nano-silica hybrid coating had a rough surface with micro/nanometer dual-size structure. Icing experiment was carried out to investigate the anti-icing properties of the super-hydrophobic coating on insulator strings. AC icing flashover voltages of the two types of insulator strings were investigated. Results showed that the super-hydrophobic PDMS/nano-silica hybrid super-hydrophobic coating excellently restrained the icing on insulator strings. The AC flashover voltage of the ice coated insulator string with the super-hydrophobic PDMS/nano-silica hybrid coating was 100 kV which was higher than that of the ice coated insulator string with RTV silicone rubber coating.

SimK:A Large-Scale Parallel Simulation Engine

Simulation is an important method to evaluate future computer systems. Currently microprocessor architecture has switched to parallel, but almost all simulators remained at sequential stage, and the advantages brought by multi-core or many-core processors cannot be utilized. This paper presents a parallel simulator engine （SimK） towards the prevalent SMP/CMP platform, aiming at large-scale fine-grained computer system simulation. In this paper, highly efficient synchronization, communication and buffer management policies used in SimK are introduced, and a novel lock-free scheduling mechanism that avoids using any atomic instructions is presented. To deal with the load fluctuation at light load case, a cooperated dynamic task migration scheme is proposed. Based on SimK, we have developed large-scale parallel simulators HppSim and HppNetSim, which simulate a full supercomputer system and its interconnection network respectively. Results show that HppSim and HppNetSim both gain sound speedup with multiple processors, and the best normalized speedup reaches 14.95X on a two-way quad-core server.

This paper proposes a systematic gain setting method for the positive feedback anti-islanding scheme which is designed to protect the interconnected inverter-based distributed generators (DGs) from islanding operation. Two main factors affecting the performance of the anti-islanding scheme are investigated when the positive feedback gain is tuned. One is the stability impact of the anti-islanding control on distributed generation (DG) systems and the other is the islanding detection time of the anti-islanding scheme. The small-signal model and the electromagnetic transient simulation model of an inverter-based DG system are developed to facilitate the realization of the proposed gain setting method. This method provides a practical and reliable tool for DG planning engineers.

Software as a Service (SaaS) 1.0 signifcantly lowers the infrastructure and maintenance cost and increases the accessibility of the software by hosting software via the web. Compared with SaaS 1.0, SaaS 2.0 is more flexible since it leverages software tools from both server and client sides with closer interaction between them. The SaaS 2.0 paradigm provides new opportunities and challenges for EDA. In this paper, we take Boolean matching, one of the core sub algorithms in logic synthesis for field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), as a case study. We investigate the advantages and challenges of implementing a scalable EDA algorithm under SaaS 2.0 paradigm from a technical perspective. We propose SaaS-BM, a new Boolean matching algorithm customized to take full advantage of the cloud while addressing concerns such as security and the internet bandwidth limit. Extensive experiments are performed under a networked environment with concurrent accesses. Integrated into a post-mapping re-synthesis algorithm minimizing area, the proposed SaaS-BM is 863X times faster than state-of-the-art SAT-based Boolean matching with 0.5% area overhead. Compared with a recent Bloom Filter-based Boolean matching algorithm, our proposed SaaS-BM is 53X times faster on large circuits with no area overhead.

Real-time activity recognition using body sensor networks is an important and challenging task and it has many potential applications. In this paper, we propose a real time, hierarchical model to recognize both simple gestures and complex activities using a wireless body sensor network. In this model, we first use a fast, lightweight template matching algorithm to detect gestures at the sensor node level, and then use a discriminative pattern based real-time algorithm to recognize high-level activities at the portable device level. We evaluate our algorithms over a real-world dataset. The results show that the proposed system not only achieves good performance (an average precision of 94.9%, an average recall of 82.5%, and an average real-time delay of 5.7 seconds), but also significantly reduces the network communication cost by 60.2%.
