In-situ NAS: A Plug-and-Search Neural architecture Search framework across hardware platforms

Hardware-aware Neural architecture Search (HW-NAS) has garnered significant research interest due to its ability to automate the design of neural networks for various hardware platforms. Prevalent HW-NAS frameworks often use fast predictors to estimate network performance, bypassing the time-consuming actual profiling step. However, the resource-intensive nature of building these predictors and their accuracy limitations hinder their practical use in diverse deployment scenarios. In response, we emphasize the indispensable role of actual profiling in HW-NAS and explore efficiency optimization possibilities within the HW-NAS framework. We provide a systematic analysis of profiling overhead in HW-NAS and identify many redundant and unnecessary operations during the search phase. We then optimize the workflow and present Insitu NAS, which leverages similarity features and exploration history to eliminate redundancy and improve runtime efficiency. In-situ NAS also offers simplified interfaces to ease the user’s effort in managing the complex device-dependent profiling flow, enabling plug-and-search functionality across diverse hardware platforms. Experimental results show that In-situ NAS achieves an average 10x speedup across different hardware platforms while reducing the search overhead by 8x compared to predictor-based approaches in various deployment scenarios. Additionally, In-situ NAS consistently discovers networks with better accuracy (about 1.5%) across diverse hardware platforms compared to predictor-based NAS. © 1968-2012 IEEE.

In order to make full use of the concept of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and the collaborative design capability of the open model-based engineering environment (OpenMBEE) in establishing complex product development platform, we propose an effective method to solve the problem of unified identity authentication in OpenMBEE integration. The proposed method is based on the Model View Controller(MVC) architecture in OpenMBEE, which has the characteristics strong plasticity and can be benefit for expanding the function in the controller layer. In our research, we make full use of the Software Development Kit (SDK) of OpenMBEE to expand the existing functions in the controller layer, and increase the function of communicating with the application development platform, then realize the function of sharing user authentication information between the development platform and OpenMBEE. After expansion, the system includes three modules, including the Front-end Service Module(FSM), MQ based Information Receiving Service Module(IFRSM), and the OpenMBEE Back-end Server Module(BSM). The effectiveness of the proposed strategies is verified by some practical instances, which verifies that our study can provide an effective design idea for the identity authentication in OpenMBEE integration. ©2021 IEEE

Depression is one of the most common mood disorders and the number of patients increases significantly in recent years. Due to the lack of biomarkers, conversation between patients and psychiatrists is still the main clinical diagnostic method which is easily influenced by subjectivity of both patients and psychiatrists. Synthetic House-tree-person test (S-HTP), a convenient and efficient mental assessment tool, minimizes subjective influences from patients, while its effectiveness is limited by the professional ability of analyst. Here we introduce a deep learning model DeHTP, a flexible and convenient depression detection method based on S-HTP without interaction between people. Experimental results demonstrate that DeHTP achieves 0.963 AUC and 0.9 accuracy, and outperforms the conventional manual analysis of S-HTP, which is conducted on the guideline of 50 conclusions from previous study related to depression. In addition, it reveals 22 depression-correlated drawing features aligned with conclusions above from the perspective of our proposed model. Leveraging the advantages of deep learning and S-HTP, this approach has the potential for widespread promotion and adoption as the available tool for daily self-mental monitoring, as well as the promising auxiliary diagnostic method in clinical. © 2013 IEEE.

The network load generators are widely used by network researchers to analyze link bandwidth, evaluate network performance and test device capabilities. Data center and IoT networks are quickly evolving and we desire to get a load generator that can precisely generate flow-level workload with high-throughput. Often researchers choose software-based generators because of their flexibility and open-source nature. However, despite the emerging of different solutions, existing software-based flow-level generators have difficulty in generating millions of concurrent TCP connections or achieving one-microsecond precision of packet inter departure time (IDT) which can undermine the correctness of experiments. In this paper, we present a new network load generator, called Massive Client Connections (MCC). MCC is a client load generator which means it performs flow-level load simulation. We separate the control plane from the data plane and design a two-stage timer mechanism to get higher precision. To take full advantage of multicore processors, we utilize the shared-nothing multi-threaded model. Our evaluation demonstrates that MCC generates network load conforming to expected distribution with one-microsecond precision. Moreover, MCC shows definite scalability of throughput in multicore systems. And it is capable of generating more than three million concurrent TCP connections with ten CPU cores. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.

Increasingly growing various multimedia services (e.g., interactive live video and so on) have brought tremendous pressure on existing static defense techniques. To cope with inherent drawback of static defense techniques, Network Moving Target Defense (NMTD) such as route mutation (RM) was proposed. What's more, applying reinforcement learning (RL) into RM has been proved feasible in our previous work. But two main problems still need to be considered in this combination of RL with RM: 1) It lacks the consideration of multiple flows situation. 2) With the state-action space grow larger, current solution can't handle efficiently. In this paper, we propose a deep Q-learning method for RM (DQ-RM) to solve above two problems. Firstly, benefited from the satisfiability module theory, we formalize RM space considering single flow and multiple flows concurrently. Then we further propose a deep reinforcement learning-based RM scheme based on our previous work, which is suitable for large-scale state-action space. Finally, extensive experimental results highlight the improvement of DQ-RM in defense performance and convergence speed compared to the representative solution. © 2020 IEEE.

A wide variety of integral inequalities (IIs) have been developed and studied for the stability analysis of distributed parameter systems using the Lyapunov functional approach. However, no unified mathematical framework has been proposed that could characterize the similarity and connection between these IIs, as most of them was introduced in a dispersed manner for the analysis of specific types of systems. Additionally, the extent to which the generality of these IIs can be expanded and the optimality of their lower bounds (LBs) remains open questions. In this study, we introduce two general classes of IIs that can generalize nearly all IIs in the literature. The integral kernels of the LBs of our IIs can contain an unlimited number of weighted £2 functions that are linearly independent in a Lebesgue sense. Moreover, we not only estalish the equivalence relations between the LBs of our IIs, but also demonstrate that these LBs are guaranteed by the least squares principle, implying asymptotic convergence to the upper bound when the kernels functions constitutes a Schauder basis of the underlying Hilbert space. Owing to their general structures, our IIs are applicable in a variety of contexts, such as the stability analysis of coupled PDE-ODE systems or cybernetic systems with delay structures.
