Differentiated emission control strategy based on comprehensive evaluation of multi-media pollution:Case of mercury emission control

In order to comprehensively evaluate the environmental impact of multi-media mercury pollution under differentiated emission control strategies in China,a literature review and case studies were carried *** human exposure to methylmercury was assessed through the dietary intake of residents in areas surrounding a typical coal-fired power plant and a zinc(Zn)smelter,located either on acid soil with paddy growth in southern China,or on alkaline soil with wheat growth in northern *** with knowledge on speciated mercury in flue gas and the fate of mercury in the wastewater or solid waste of the typical emitters applying different air pollution control devices,a simplified model was developed by estimating the incremental daily intake of methylmercury from both local and global *** indicated that air pollution control for coal-fired power plants and Zn smelters can greatly reduce health risks from mercury pollution,mainly through a reduction in global methylmercury exposure,but could unfortunately induce local methylmercury exposure by transferring more mercury from flue gas to wastewater or solid waste,then contaminating surrounding soil,and thus increasing dietary intake via ***,tightening air emission control is conducive to reducing the comprehensive health risk,while the environmental equity between local and global pollution control should be fully *** in the south tends to have higher bioconcentration factors than wheat in the north,implying the great importance of strengthening local pollution control in the south,especially for Zn smelters with higher contribution to local pollution.

Win-Win:Anthropogenic circularity for metal criticality and carbon neutrality

Resource depletion and environmental degradation have fueled a burgeoning discipline of anthropogenic circularity since the *** generally consists of waste reuse,remanufacturing,recycling,and *** economy and“zero-waste”cities are sweeping the globe in their current practices to address the world’s grand concerns linked to resources,the environment,and ***,metal criticality and carbon neutrality,which have become increasingly popular in recent years,denote the material's feature and state,*** goal of this article is to determine how circularity,criticality,and neutrality are *** anthropogenic circularity has the potential to expand the metal supply and,as a result,reduce metal *** barely accomplished 15%of its potential emission reduction by recycling iron,copper,and *** circularity has a lot of room to achieve a win-win objective,which is to reduce metal criticality while also achieving carbon neutrality in a near closed-loop *** barriers or challenges for conducting anthropogenic circularity are deriving from the inadequacy of life-cycle insight governance and the emergence of anthropogenic circularity *** flow analysis and life cycle assessment are the central methodologies to identify the hidden *** processing and smelting,as well as end-of-life management,are indicated as critical priority areas for enhancing anthropogenic circularity.

Feasibility study of a process for the reduction of sulfur oxides in flue gas of fluid catalytic cracking unit using the riser reactor

In this work,a new process for achieving the recovery of elemental sulfur by utilizing a fluidized catalytic cracking(FCC) riser reactor for SOxtreatment(FCC-DeSOx) is *** process leverages the high temperatures and hydrocarbon concentrations in the FCC riser reactor to convert SOxinto H_(2)***,H_(2)S,along with the cracked gas,is processed downstream to produce *** analysis of the key reduction reactions in the FCC-DeSOxprocess revealed that complete conversion of SOxto H_(2)S is feasible in the dry gas(hydrogen-rich) prelift zone,as well as the upper and lower zones of the riser,upon achieving thermodynamic *** studies were conducted to replicate the conditions of these reaction zones using a low concentration of hydrogen gas as the reducing *** process optimization,investigation of the minimum reaction time,and kinetic studies,the potential of this method for the complete reduction of SOxwas further confirmed.

A probe into the acid deposition mitigation path in China over the last four decades and beyond

China currently has the highest acid deposition globally, yet research on its status, impacts, causes and controls is lacking. Here, we compiled data and calculated critical loads regarding acid deposition. The results showed that the abatement measures in China have achieved a sharp decline in the emissions of acidifying pollutants and a continuous recovery of precipitation p H, despite the drastic growth in the economy and energy consumption. However, the risk of ecological acidification and eutrophication showed no significant decrease. With similar emission reductions, the decline in areas at risk of acidification in China(7.0%) lags behind those in Europe(20%) or the USA(15%). This was because, unlike Europe and the USA, China's abatement strategies primarily target air quality improvement rather than mitigating ecological impacts. Given that the area with the risk of eutrophication induced by nitrogen deposition remained at 13%of the country even under the scenario of achieving the dual targets of air quality and carbon dioxide mitigation in 2035, we explored an enhanced ammonia abatement pathway. With a further 27% reduction in ammonia by 2035, China could largely eliminate the impacts of acid deposition. This research serves as a valuable reference for China's future acid deposition control and for other nations facing similar challenges.

Accurate prediction of air quality response to emissions for effective control policy design

Designing effective control policy requires accurate quantification of the relationship between the ambient concentrations of O3and PM2.5and the emissions of their ***,the challenge is that precursor reduction does not necessarily lead to decreases in the concentrations of O3and PM2.5,which are formed by multiple precursors under complex physical and chemical processes;this calls for the development of advanced model technologies to provide accurate predictions of the nonlinear responses of air quality to *** from the traditional sensitivity analysis and source apportionment methods,the reduced form models(RFMs)based on chemical transport models(CTMs)are able to quantify air quality responses to emissions more accurately and efficiently with lower computational *** we review recent approaches used in RFMs and compare their structures,advantages and disadvantages,performance and *** general,RFMs are classified into three types including(1)sensitivity-based models,(2)models with simplified chemistry and physical processes,and(3)statistical models,with considerable differences in principles,characteristics and application *** prediction of nonlinear responses by RFMs enables more in-depth analysis,not only in terms of real-time prediction of concentrations and quantification of human exposure,health impacts and economic damage,but also in optimizing control ***,data assimilation and emission inventory inversion based on the nonlinear response of concentrations to emissions can also be greatly beneficial to air pollution control *** future studies,improvement in the performance of CTMs is exceedingly crucial to obtain a more reliable baseline for the prediction of air quality *** of models to determine the air quality response to emissions under varying meteorological conditions is also necessary in the context of future climate changes,which pose great challenges to the qua

Reactive Power Optimization Model of Active Distribution Network with New Energy and Electric Vehicles

Considering the uncertainty of grid connection of electric vehicle charging stations and the uncertainty of new energy and residential electricity load,a spatio-temporal decoupling strategy of dynamic reactive power optimization based on clustering-local relaxation-correction is ***,the k-medoids clustering algorithm is used to divide the reduced power scene into ***,the discrete variables and continuous variables are optimized in the same period of ***,the number of input groups of parallel capacitor banks(CB)in multiple periods is fixed,and then the secondary static reactive power optimization correction is carried out by using the continuous reactive power output device based on the static reactive power compensation device(SVC),the new energy grid-connected inverter,and the electric vehicle charging *** to the characteristics of the model,a hybrid optimization algorithm with a cross-feedback mechanism is used to solve different types of variables,and an improved artificial hummingbird algorithm based on tent chaotic mapping and adaptive mutation is proposed to improve the solution *** simulation results show that the proposed decoupling strategy can obtain satisfactory optimization resultswhile strictly guaranteeing the dynamic constraints of discrete variables,and the hybrid algorithm can effectively solve the mixed integer nonlinear optimization problem.

Accurate vehicle dynamic information plays an important role in vehicle driving ***,due to the characteristics of high mobility and multiple controllable degrees of freedom of drive-by-wire chassis vehicles,the current mature application of traditional vehicle state estimation algorithms can not meet the requirements of drive-by-wire chassis vehicle state *** paper proposes a state estimation method for drive-by-wire chassis vehicle based on the dual unscented particle filter algorithm,which make full use of the known advantages of the four-wheel drive torque and steer angle parameters of the drive-by-wire chassis *** the dual unscented particle filter algorithm,two unscented particle filter transfer information to each other,observe the vehicle state information and the tire force parameter information of the four wheels respectively,which reduce the influence of parameter uncertainty and model parameter changes on the estimation accuracy during *** performance with the dual unscented particle filter algorithm,which is analyzed in terms of the time-average square error,is superior of the unscented Kalman filter *** effectiveness of the algorithm is further verified by driving simulator *** this paper,a vehicle state estimator based on dual unscented particle filter algorithm was proposed for the first time to improve the estimation accuracy of vehicle parameters and states.

Chemodiversity of soil dissolved organic matter affected by contrasting microplastics from different types of polymers

Chemodiversity of dissolved organic matter(DOM)is a crucial factor controlling soil nutrient availability,greenhouse gas emissions,and pollutant ***(MPs)are widespread pollutants in terrestrial ecosystems in many ***,the effects of MPs on DOM chemodiversity are not sufficiently understood,particularly under different types of *** UV-Vis spectroscopy,3D fluorescence spectroscopy,and Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry,the effects of three prevalent MPs[polyethylene,polystyrene,and polyvinyl chloride(PVC)]on the chemical properties and composition of soil DOM were investigated via a 310-d soil incubation *** results showed that MPs reduced the aromatic and hydrophobic soil DOM components by more than 20%,with PVC MPs having the greatest ***,as MP contents increase,the humification level of soil DOM significantly *** increased DOM molecules with no heteroatom by 8.3%-14.0%,but decreased DOM molecules with nitrogen content by 17.0%-47.8%.This may be because MPs cause positive“priming effect,”resulting in the breakdown of bioavailable components in soil *** is also related to MPs changing microbial richness and diversity and enriching microbial communities involved in lignin compositions *** the presence of MPs,soil DOM chemodiversity depended on soil pH,electrical conductivity,dissolved organic carbon,soil organic matter,bacterial Shannon,and fungal Chao ***,DOM in MP-contaminated soils featured more lipids and less condensed aromatics and proteins/amino sugars,thereby conferring a lower DOM aromaticity and higher lability.
