Input data analysis for the thermal rating prediction of the overhead conductor

The thermal rating of the overhead conductor is closely related to meteorological factors such as wind speed, wind direction, ambient temperature and solar radiation. Therefore, both the historical thermal ratings and meteorological data are alternative input data to predict the thermal rating of the overhead conductor. It is important to select suitable input data to improve the prediction accuracy of the prediction results. Based on the collection of micro-meteorological data from overhead line monitoring system, this paper presents a method to determine the input data for the thermal rating prediction by analysing the autocorrelation of overhead thermal ratings and the cross-correlation between thermal rating and historical micrometeorological data. The results show that the proposed method can provide reference information for the selection of predictive input quantities and prediction time domain.

To improve the superheated steam temperature (SST) control performance, this paper considers the conflicting objectives in SST control, multi-objective optimization (MOO) algorithm is employed in this paper. Firstly, the inner-loop PI controller is optimized by considering the objectives of set-point tracking and disturbance rejection, with and without constraints on robustness level. It is found that robustness constraint is essential in the optimization. Secondly, the regulation performance of the outer-loop PI controller is addressed by optimizing the disturbance rejection and robustness simultaneously. The parameter are determined based on the simulation comparison between the non-dominated solutions. The simulation results demonstrate a promising prospect of promoting the proposed strategy to more industrial practices. © 2017

High fault transition resistance and the integration of distributed generations (DGs) make it difficult for single phase-to-earth fault location in distribution systems. This paper presents a method for single phase-to-earth fault section location in low resistance grounding system based on the measured synchronized zero sequence admittance. The measured zero sequence admittance is calculated by local PMU and then be sent to the operation center. The upstream or downstream of the fault point is judged based on the measured admittance angle. This fault section method is not affected by fault transition resistance, and can be suitable for different grid connected transform grounding modes of DG. The feasibility and accuracy of this proposed method is proved by the PSCAD simulation results.

Biped 4R2C Six-bar Mechanism with Inner and Outer Feet

Most current biped robots are equipped with two feet arranged in the right and left which inspired by the human body system. Different from the existing configurations, a novel biped robot with inner and outer feet based on a spatial six-bar 4R2C（R and C denote revolute and cylindric joints, respectively） mechanism is proposed. It can move along a line or a curve by three walking modes that are dwell adjustment mode, limit position adjustment mode and any position adjustment mode. Kinematic, gait planning and stability analyses are performed respectively, and a prototype is developed. Lastly, a potential application is considered and two manipulating modes（sphere and cylinder manipulating modes） are carried out. This interesting mechanism feathering its single dosed-chain structure and unique work performance is expected to motivate the configuration creation of biped robots.

To solve effects of time synchronization problems in double-ended traveling wave location method and achieve exact identification of reflected wave crests in single-ended traveling wave location method, a novel location method is proposed in this paper. A preliminary fault location and approximate values of fault distance are calculated by double-ended principle firstly. Then fault point reflected waves' arrival time at both sides are calculated via using approximate values. Compared with theoretical time, a time error matrix is built and the value which is closest to zero is identified as the actual arrival time of fault point reflected wave. Finally, accurate location is accomplished based on the single-ended traveling wave principle. EMTP-ATP simulation results show that the proposed fault location method is feasible in hybrid lines and fault location accuracy is improved obviously. © 2017 IEEE.

Nitrogen-rich carbons for CO₂ capture have received much attention in recent years, but the role of N-containing groups in CO₂ adsorption has not been clearly elucidated. In this study, indole-3-butyric acid potassium (IBAP) as a new precursor was used to prepare the nitrogen-rich carbons via one-step carbonization. The IBAP-derived carbon prepared at 700°C exhibited high CO₂ adsorption of 1.48mmol/g at 0.15bar and 4.53mmol/g at 1bar and 25°C, among the highly efficient activated carbons for CO₂ adsorption. The high CO₂ adsorption was attributed to not only the high volume of effective micropores, but also the effective N-containing groups on the IBAP-derived carbons. When carbonization temperatures increased from 500°C to 900°C, the nitrogen contents in the IBAP-derived carbons decreased from 6.35% to 0.70%. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis confirmed that the pyrrolic-N in IBAP was converted into pyridinic-N, quaternary nitrogen and pyridinic-N-oxide in the carbonization process, and their contents first increased and then decreased with increasing carbonization temperatures. Only the pyrrolic-N was proved to be effective for CO₂ adsorption on the IBAP-derived carbons, and its contribution to CO₂ adsorption was pronounced for the carbons prepared at low temperatures. For the well-developed porous carbons, the effective micropores were mainly responsible for CO₂ adsorption via micropore filling. © 2015 Elsevier B.V..

A great amount of existing knowledge is required during the development of aero-craft system. At present, the existing knowledge organization model construct different knowledge model for different stages is difficult to adapt to the complicated product life cycle application. This study proposes a product development oriented knowledge network model focusing on expressing the knowledge demands and connecting the computer-aided system. Under the overall knowledge network model, this study describes the ontology description method of spacecraft product model, development tasks and aerospace terminology. Environment and economic feasibility of municipal solid waste central sorting strategy： a case study in Beijing

Although Beijing has carried out municipal solid waste （MSW） source separation since 1996, it has largely been ineffective. In 2012, a ＂Green House＂ program was established as a new attempt for central sorting. In this study, the authors used material flow analysis （MFA） and cost benefit analysis （CBA） methods to investigate Green House＇s environment and economic feasibility. Results showed that the program did have significant environmental benefits on waste reduction, which reduced the amount of waste by 34%. If the Green House program is implemented in a residential community with wet waste ratio of 66%, the proportion of waste reduction can reach 37%. However, the Green House is now running with a monthly loss of 1982 CNY. This is mainly because most of its benefits come from waste reduction （i.e., 5878 CNY per month）, which does not turn a monetary benefit, but is instead distributed to the whole of society as positive environmental externalities. Lack of government involvement, small program scale, and technical/managerial deficiency are three main barriers of the Green House. We, thus, make three recommendations： involve government authority and financial support, expand the program scale to separate 91.4 tons of waste every month, and use more professional equipment/technologies. If the Green House program can successfully adopt these suggestions, 33.8 tons of waste can be reduced monthly, and it would be able to flip the loss into a profit worth 35034 CNY.

Advanced treatment of municipal wastewater by nanofiltration： Operational optimization and membrane fouling analysis

Municipal sewage from an oxidation ditch was treated for reuse by nanofiltration（NF） in this study. The NF performance was optimized, and its fouling characteristics after different operational durations（i.e., 48 and 169 hr） were analyzed to investigate the applicability of nanofiltration for water reuse. The optimum performance was achieved when transmembrane pressure = 12 bar, p H = 4 and flow rate = 8 L/min using a GE membrane. The permeate water quality could satisfy the requirements of water reclamation for different uses and local standards for water reuse in Beijing. Flux decline in the fouling experiments could be divided into a rapid flux decline and a quasi-steady state. The boundary flux theory was used to predict the evolution of permeate flux. The expected operational duration based on the 169-hr experiment was 392.6 hr which is 175% longer than that of the 48-hr one. High molecular weight（MW） protein-like substances were suggested to be the dominant foulants after an extended period based on the MW distribution and the fluorescence characteristics. The analyses of infrared spectra and extracellular polymeric substances revealed that the roles of both humic- and polysaccharide-like substances were diminished, while that of protein-like substances were strengthened in the contribution of membrane fouling with time prolonged. Inorganic salts were found to have marginally influence on membrane fouling. Additionally, alkali washing was more efficient at removing organic foulants in the long term, and a combination of water flushing and alkali washing was appropriate for NF fouling control in municipal sewage treatment.

In the past decades, the stability of vehicles has been improved significantly by use of variety of chassis control systems such as Antilock Braking system (ABS), Electric Stability Program (ESP) and Active Front Steering (AFS). Recently, in order to further improve the performance of vehicles, more and more researches are focused on the integration control of multiple degrees of freedom of vehicle dynamic. However, in order to control multiple degrees of freedom simultaneously, the nonlinear problems caused by the coupling between different degrees of freedom have to be solved, which is always a difficult task. In this paper, a three-degrees-of-freedom single track vehicle model, in which some nonlinear terms are considered, is built firstly. Then, the nonlinear model is processed by the fuzzy technique and the T-S fuzzy model is designed. Based on this, a feedback controller of Parallel Distributed Compensation (PDC) framework is employed, and the controller shares the same fuzzy sets with the T-S fuzzy model. The pole placement and Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) techniques are utilized to solve the feedback gains for the PDC controller to ensure the performance of the closed-loop control system. Finally, the proposed algorithm is modelled and simulated by Matlab/Simulink. The results show that satisfactory performance of the vehicle planar stability can be achieved.
