The driver state information is indispensible for the development and evaluation of an advanced driver assistance system. To propose a driver mental workload evaluation method, physiological data, and subjective scores were recorded in a moving-base driving simulator under a dual-task condition composed of a driving task and an auditory n-back task. The heart rate variability, skin conductance level, and respiration rates were extracted and examined as a measure of a driver’s workload. Subjective scores used the NASA-TLX and indicated that the driver’s stress level increases under the dual-task condition, and a significant variation of physiological indices were found in the experimental trials. The results indicated a correlation between the physiological indices and the driver’s mental workload. In order to verify the effectiveness of a simulator study, a combined measure was then created, using a multiple regression method based on the physiological indices. The evaluation method developed in this study can be used in the design of an advanced driver assistance system and a human–machine interface. © 2016 Taylor & Francis Group, London.

The rapid development of modern internet industry system has promoted a brand new revolution of vehicle design. Deriving from the field of computer interaction, the theory of User Experience (UX) design has grown up. While the In- Vehicle Infotainment (IVI), with a high connection with computer interaction, demanding the methods and flow of UX design urgently. Depending on the UX design project for the IVI of a certain homebred luxury car, this paper clearly puts forward the planning contents and organization flow of UX's activity. It has proposed Multi-dimensional user model, simulation of UX and hierarchical question bank. Combined with the case of 'feedback guides correction' in actual project, it has summarized the methods of feedback processing. It has also introduced the conception of 'Bank of UX design' for IVI, which will provide powerful guarantee of data for the efficient development of new product. This paper has fully proved the scientificity and necessity of UX's activity design in IVI design.

This paper focuses on the modeling process of incorporating inflation pressure into the UniTire model for pure cornering. Via observing and manipulating the tire experimental data, the effects of inflation pressure on the tire cornering property are analyzed in detail, including the impacts on cornering stiffness, the peak friction coefficient, the curvature of transition region and the pneumatic trail. And the brief mechanism explanations are also given for some of these impacts. The results show that some effects of inflation pressure are similar to that of vertical load on the non-dimensional tire cornering property, and there are strong interactive effects between the two operating conditions. Therefore, in order to obtain concise expressions, the inflation pressure is incorporated into the UniTire tire model by analogy with the expressions for vertical load, and the interactive effects are also taken into account. Finally, the effectiveness of the improved model is validated by comparison with the experimental data. © 2020 SAE Technical Papers. All rights reserved.

Recent warming in the Arctic, which has been amplified during the winter^1,2,3, greatly enhances microbial decomposition of soil organic matter and subsequent release of carbon dioxide (CO₂)⁴. However, the amount of CO₂ released in winter is not known and has not been well represented by ecosystem models or empirically based estimates^5,6. Here we synthesize regional in situ observations of CO₂ flux from Arctic and boreal soils to assess current and future winter carbon losses from the northern permafrost domain. We estimate a contemporary loss of 1,662 TgC per year from the permafrost region during the winter season (October-April). This loss is greater than the average growing season carbon uptake for this region estimated from process models (−1,032 TgC per year). Extending model predictions to warmer conditions up to 2100 indicates that winter CO₂ emissions will increase 17% under a moderate mitigation scenario—Representative Concentration Pathway 4.5—and 41% under business-as-usual emissions scenario—Representative Concentration Pathway 8.5. Our results provide a baseline for winter CO₂ emissions from northern terrestrial regions and indicate that enhanced soil CO₂ loss due to winter warming may offset growing season carbon uptake under future climatic conditions.

Analysis of Energy Return on Investment of China's Oil and Gas Production

China ranks No.1 and No.3 respectively in global oil and gas consumption. Examination of viability of oil and gas resources could provide useful information in gauging economic vulnerability of future oil and gas supply in China. Energy Return on Investment (EROI) is an important index to characterize the viability of a natural resource from an energy viewpoint. This paper calculates EROI for oil and gas exploration (EROIOGE) and EROI for light oil products (EROILOP) in China. The results show that the EROIOGE decreased from approximately 16.4 in 1985 to 8.4 in 2003, and then increased to 12.2 in 2012. The EROIOGE in recent years are due to the increasing of gas production. As a trade-off between the decrease of oil extraction efficiency and the increase of oil processing efficiency, the EROILOP fluctuated around 4. The results suggest that China should develop the natural gas industry and improve the oil processing efficiency vigorously.

Fe-based catalysts for heterogeneous catalytic ozonation of emerging contaminants in water and wastewater

Catalytic ozonation utilizes catalysts to improve the decomposition of ozone and the formation of hydroxyl radicals, which can overcome some disadvantages of ozonation. Fe-based materials are widely used as catalysts for heterogeneous catalytic ozonation due to their easy preparation, excellent catalytic performance and the abundance of Fe in nature. In this paper, the performances of various Fe-based catalysts, including Fe 0 -derived, FeOOH-derived, Fe 2 O 3 -derived, Fe 3 O 4 -derived and iron oxides composite, their preparation and characterization methods were briefly introduced. The catalytic ozonation using Fe-based catalysts for the degradation of various emerging contaminants, such as pesticides and herbicides, pharmaceuticals, phthalic acid esters, dyes, nitrobenzenes, phenols, as well as for the treatment of actual wastewater was summarized. The main influencing factors on catalytic ozonation of toxic organic pollutants were discussed, and their potential applications and perspectives were proposed.

Promising applications of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) in various fields have raised concern over their environmental fate and safety upon inevitable discharge into aqueous environments. Currently, no information regarding the transformation processes of MOFs is available. Due to the presence of repetitive π-bond structure and semiconductive property, photochemical transformations are an important fate process that affects the performance of MOFs in practical applications. In the current study, the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in isoreticular MIL-53s was studied. Scavengers were employed to probe the production of 1O2, O2•-, and •OH, respectively. In general, MIL-53(Cr) and MIL-53(Fe) are dominated by type I and II photosensitization reactions, respectively, and MIL-53(Al) appears to be less photoreactive. The generation of ROS in MIL-53(Fe) may be underestimated due to dismutation. Further investigation of MIL-53(Fe) encapsulated diclofenac transformation revealed that diclofenac can be easily transformed by MIL-53(Fe) generated ROS. However, the cytotoxicity results implied that the ROS generated from MIL-53s have little effect on the viability of the human hepatocyte (HepG2) cell line. These results suggest that the photogeneration of ROS by MOFs may be metal-node dependent, and the application of MIL-53s as drug carriers needs to be carefully considered due to their high photoreactivity. For the large-scale integration of renewable generation into power grid and strengthening of active load regulation ability, the power transmission and distribution network coupling has become closer, and the contradiction between the source and network has been more prominent, which has brought new challenges to power system operation dispatching. In order to further enhance the coordination and interaction ability of the power grid, a synergistic dispatching model of power source and electric network is constructed on the basis of the traditional economic dispatching. By optimizing the transmission-distribution network connection topology, the operation economy has improved while ensuring system reliability. Case studies on a realistic power system show that the mathematical model is advantageous to the optimization of the whole power grid operation.
