To enable power supply in rural areas and to exploit clean energy, fully renewable power systems consisting of cascaded run-of-the-river hydropower and volatile energies such as pv and wind are built around the world. In islanded operation mode, the primary and secondary frequency control, i.e., hydro governors and automatic generation control (AGC), are responsible for the frequency stability. However, due to limited water storage capacity of run-of-the-river hydropower and river dynamics constraints, without coordination between the cascaded plants, the traditional AGC with fixed participation factors cannot fully exploit the adjustability of cascaded hydropower. When imbalances between the volatile energy and load occur, load shedding can be inevitable. To address this issue, this paper proposes a coordinated tertiary control approach by jointly considering power system dynamics and the river dynamics that couples the cascaded hydropower plants. The timescales of the power system and river dynamics are very different. To unify the multi-timescale dynamics to establish a model predictive controller that coordinates the cascaded plants, the relation between AGC parameters and turbine discharge over a time interval is approximated by a data-based second-order polynomial surrogate model. The cascaded plants are coordinated by optimising AGC participation factors in a receding-horizon manner, and load shedding is minimised. simulation of a real-life system with real-time pv data collected on site shows the proposed method significantly reduces load loss under pv volatility. The GaN HEMT offers fast switching and low on-state resistance which makes it ideal for applications such as high efficiency and high power density power supplies. Unfortunately, the low threshold voltage makes GaN HEMT extremely vulnerable to false turn-on, which compromises the performance and potentially causes shoot-through. In the half-bridge circuit topology, the resonant circuit formed by the parasitic inductance and capacitance can trigger false turn-on with a fast commutation. A practical method to avoid this phenomenon is to apply a negative bias voltage during the commutation by either using a separate power supply or using a capacitor charge pump to produce the negative turn-off bias. The first method necessitates many extra components and the second method cannot provide a fixed negative voltage. This paper rectifies these issues by proposing a negative turn-off bias generator with a new charge pump based approach which offers a stable negative turn-off voltage under different switching frequencies and duty cycles. The proposed circuit has been practically implemented during experimental testing. These results demonstrate that false turn-on events are eliminated without compromising the high-frequency and highspeed characteristics of the GaN HEMT.

Distributed Energy Resources(DERs) will be an important part of the future power system under the spread of distributed renewable energy generation, electric vehicles, demand response and other technologies. Cyber-physical system (CPS) is one of the development directions for the future smart grid to integrate the widespread DERs. First, this paper presents the basic architecture and operation process of virtual power plant (VPP). Then the solution of communication structure and software platform are proposed. It is pointed out that virtual power plants have good applicability in information and communication infrastructure, power market and DER integration. Finally, a demonstration program in China is introduced. The research and application of virtual power plant is currently in its embryonic form. It provides a solution for the transmission from centralized power production to the distributed energy utilization, and is an adequate way to integrate geographical dispersion, heterogeneous DERs.

In order to overcome the limitations of traditional fault diagnosis methods, this paper studies the online detection method of internal faults for permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG) based on the new type of search coil. Taking a 6-phase PMSG as an example, two types of search coil are fixed in the air gap according to the pole-pair number and the armature winding structure. A calculation method for the induced EMF of the new type of search coil in the PMSG is presented, which is verified by the model machine experiment. simulation and experiments on the 6-phase PMSG show that the open-circuit voltage of the search coil was zero under normal operation, while an obvious EMF was induced in the search coil once the internal asymmetry fault occurred. And according to the period of the voltage, the fault could be distinguished between the internal fault of the stator winding and the demagnetization fault. Based on the new type of search coil, this paper provides a new way for online monitoring of internal faults of PMSGs.

CO 2 capture is critical for achieving carbon neutrality, with amine-based absorption dominating industrial deployment for its efficiency. However, the performance of amine-based solvents deteriorates due to the accumulation of heat-stable salts (HSSs). This review systematically examines electrodialysis (ED) technology and its advanced configurations—including three-compartment ED (TED) and bipolar membrane ED (BMED)—in the context of amine solvent purification. BMED demonstrates superior performance, achieving > 95 % HSSs removal efficiency, but faces challenges such as higher energy consumption (0.04–0.08 kWh/L solvent) and membrane stability issues. The review also underscores that system performance is substantially influenced by feed composition and operational parameters, including current density and surface velocity. Economic analyses indicate that the costs associated with amine replenishment and waste treatment represent critical barriers to the widespread industrial application of ED-based amine purification technology. Future research should prioritize: (1) controlling carbamate-induced amine loss, (2) reducing BMED energy demand, (3) pilot-scale validation of membrane durability, and (4) hybrid systems to address electrically inert impurities.

The multiphase permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) with rectifier-load systems have been widely used in the mobile platforms that requires high power supply system security. Taking a 6-phase rectifier PMSG as an example, a multi-loop combined with FEM mathematical model is established to analyze the internal short-circuit of stator windings, and a series of fault experiments are carried out on a 6-phase model machine. Using the mathematical model, all the voltages and currents of stator windings are calculated out in both normal operation and various internal short-circuit faults. The simulation results are consistent with the experiment data, which verifies the correctness of the mathematical model. In addition, the simulation currents of the windings could be substituted into the 2D-FEM temperature field calculation model, then the internal temperature field distribution of the model machine under various metallic inter-turn and phase-to-phase short-circuit faults are obtained. The variation analysis of the internal temperature field corresponding to different internal faults provides a basis for the internal fault detection.

The rapid increase of voltage sourced converter brings the great development of the multi-terminal DC technology, both in the DC transmission and DC distribution fields. However, because of the weak impedance characteristic of the VSC-HVDC system, how to suppress and clear DC fault currents becomes a challenge. Considering the stability, the response speed and the system structure, it is not possible to apply excessive inductance at the DC side, hence, the current limiting effectiveness is relatively restricted. On the one hand, with the effective properties, Resistive type Superconducting Fault Current Limiter (R-SFCL) becomes an effective device to solve the problem of VSC-HVDC system under DC faults. On the other hand, because of dynamic energy-impedance characteristics of R-SFCL, the fixed impedance selection method at a certain time to carry out dynamic current limiting analysis is no longer applicable. Therefore, the DC fault current research and R-SFCL characteristic are comprehensively analyzed firstly in this paper. Based on that, a smoothing inductance determination method is proposed to cut off the DC fault current by DC breaker and ensure the continuous operation of remaining parts. Finally, based on a multi-terminal DC system simulation, the improvement and effectiveness of the proposed method are validated.

FPT/DPT (Functional Performance Tests and Dynamic Performance Tests) is a key process in HVDC project. The simulation and testing system included RTDS(Real-Time Digital Simulator) and C&P(control and Protection) cubicles of MVIP HVDC project is set up. Based on this simulation and testing system, the function and dynamic performance of MVIP HVDC C&P system are tested. Totally 32 test groups and more than 400 test items are included in the testing matrix. The C&P software is optimized and improved during the test. Two typical test cases, i.e. low power start-up and power reversal, are introduced in this paper.

This paper describes a new robotic tabletop rearrangement system, and presents experimental results. The tasks involve rearranging as many as 30 to 100 blocks, sometimes packed with a density of up to 40%. The high packing factor forces the system to push several objects at a time, making accurate simulation difficult, if not impossible. Nonetheless, the system achieves goals specifying the pose of every object, with an average precision of +/- 1 mm and +/- 2 degrees. The system searches through policy rollouts of simulated pushing actions, using an Iterated Local Search technique to escape local minima. In real world execution, the system executes just one action from a policy, then uses a vision system to update the estimated task state, and replans. The system accepts a fully general description of task goals, which means it can solve the singulation and separation problems addressed in prior work, but can also solve sorting problems and spell out words, among other things. The paper includes examples of several solved problems, statistical analysis of the system's behavior on different types of problems, and some discussion of limitations, insights, and future work.

As an essential direction of agricultural development in the future, the energy demand for facility agriculture varies significantly in different seasons. In this paper, an integrated energy network structure for independent facility agriculture with combined heat and power enhanced geothermal system (CHP-EGS) is proposed. Based on the CHPEGS cogeneration model and stochastic optimization method, the optimal analysis model for capacity allocation of independent facility agricultural integrated energy network is established. Taking the energy supply of facility agriculture in the hot dry rock resource-rich area of the Gonghe basin in China as an example, the optimal allocation scheme and operation characteristics of integrated energy networks for facility agriculture are analyzed considering the difference of seasonal energy consumption. The results show that, under the same capacity configuration, facility agriculture has sufficient energy support in summer, and its income can be increased by expanding the area of greenhouse or developing product processing. In winter, if the basic energy supply-demand of facility agriculture is to be ensured, the emergency heating system should be configured according to about 30% of the maximum heating demand. The optimization model and case analysis can provide meaningful guidance for seasonal energy sources planning of facility agriculture.
