Achieving an accurate random process model for PV power using cheap data: Leveraging the SDE and public weather reports

The stochastic differential equation (SDE)-based random process models of volatile renewable energy sources (RESs) jointly capture the evolving probability distribution and temporal correlation in continuous time. It has enabled recent studies to remarkably improve the performance of power system dynamic uncertainty quantification and optimization. However, considering the non-homogeneous random process nature of PV, there still remains a challenging question: how can a realistic and accurate SDE model for PV power be obtained that reflects its weather-dependent uncertainty in online operation, especially when high-resolution numerical weather prediction (NWP) is unavailable for many distributed plants? To fill this gap, this article finds that an accurate SDE model for PV power can be constructed by only using the cheap data from low-resolution public weather reports. Specifically, an hourly parameterized Jacobi diffusion process is constructed to recreate the temporal patterns of PV volatility during a day. Its parameters are mapped from the public weather report using an ensemble of extreme learning machines (ELMs) to reflect the varying weather conditions. The SDE model jointly captures intraday and intrahour volatility. Statistical examination based on real-world data collected in Macau shows the proposed approach outperforms a selection of state-of-the-art deep learning-based time-series forecast methods. Dual decomposition is widely utilized in distributed optimization of multi-agent systems. In practice, the dual decomposition algorithm is desired to admit an asynchronous implementation due to imperfect communication, such as time delay and packet drop. In addition, computational errors also exist when individual agents solve their own subproblems. In this paper, we analyze the convergence of the dual decomposition algorithm in distributed optimization when both the asynchrony in communication and the inexactness in solving subproblems exist. We find that the interaction between asynchrony and inexactness slows down the convergence rate from O(1/k) to O(1/√k). Specifically, with a constant step size, the value of objective function converges to a neighborhood of the optimal value, and the solution converges to a neighborhood of the exact optimal solution. Moreover, the violation of the constraints diminishes in O(1/√k). Our result generalizes and unifies the existing ones that only consider either asynchrony or inexactness. This paper explores aggregative games in a network of general linear systems subject to external disturbances. To deal with external disturbances, distributed strategy-updating rules based on internal model are proposed for the case with perfect and imperfect information, respectively. Different from existing algorithms based on gradient dynamics, by introducing the integral of gradient of cost functions on the basis of passive theory, the rules are proposed to force the strategies of all players to evolve to Nash equilibrium regardless the effect of disturbances. power system dynamic simulation is an important tool for us to master the dynamic behavior of power systems. It is very important to ensure the credibility of simulation results. Dynamic model validation and calibration has become one of the important applications of concern. In this paper, the method of using the dynamic data recorded by the phasor measurement unit (PMU) to improve the accuracy of the generator model is proposed, including model validation and model parameter id-entifycation. In model validation, the playback of the distur-bance event is used to simulate the response of the model for comparison with the measurement information of the PMU. If the simulation result is inconsistent with the actual mea-surements, the model parameters are not accurate. In the parameter identification step, the perturbation method is used to calculate the trajectory sensitivity of the parameter, and the problematic parameters causing the simulation error is iden-tified, then artificial intelligent method is used to automatically calib-ration the problematic parameters. Finally, other perturbation data is used to validate the credibility of the calibrated generator model, and the results obtained proved that the final calibration model is superior to the existing model. © 2019 IEEE.

This paper takes close research on the impact of unbalanced faults in the occurrence of Commutation Failure (CF) in LCC-HVDC inverters, by finding the probability of CF with the phase shift that takes place in case of unbalanced faults. The analyses of the unbalanced system are conducted by using sequence components, a relationship between the phase shift and unbalance ratio is implemented to describe the degree of unbalance in the system. The unbalance ratio is used to quantify the amount of the phase shift that will cause CF in the system, and the probability of CF with respect to unbalance ratio is obtained. Moreover, a mathematical model is implemented to calculate the critical amount of unbalance degree that will cause CF in the system, with different faults applied, the relationship between commutation failure and phase shift is obtained. The mathematical model is verified using PSCAD/EMTDC.

In this paper, a filter is proposed to diagnose fouling and sensor faults of heat exchangers. First, a typical heat exchanger system model is established, a filter based on the survival information potential is then designed for non-Gaussian stochastic systems. Consequently, the state estimation generated by the filter is used for fault detection, and the support vector machine is then employed to identify fouling and fault location of heat exchangers. The simulation results show that the fault diagnosis of heat exchangers can be effectively. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The research on the combustion stability of coal-fired power plant boilers is related to the safe operation and economic benefits of the boiler. The combustion stability judgement plays an important role for the assessment of flexibility retrofit with coal-fired power plants participating in deep peak-regulating operation. Therefore, the study of combustion stability judgment has always been a hot research direction. This paper briefly introduces the development history of boiler flame combustion stability research, and focuses on two popular research directions in this field in recent years, namely flame image combustion stability detection method and multi-information fusion combustion Stability testing methods, briefly summarize the development trends of these two research directions and their respective advantages. Then, the current research status and problems in this field are put forward three aspects of thinking and suggestions. Finally, several problems that need to be solved in the future development of combustion stability research are summarized.

Compared with large-scale physical batteries, aggregated and coordinated generic energy storage (GES) resources provide low-cost, but uncertain, flexibility for power grid operations. While GES can be characterized by different types of uncertainty, the literature mostly focuses on decision-independent uncertainties (DIUs), such as exogenous stochastic disturbances caused by weather conditions. Instead, this manuscript focuses on newly-introduced decision-dependent uncertainties (DDUs) and considers an optimal GES dispatch that accounts for uncertain available state-of-charge (SoC) bounds that are affected by incentive signals and discomfort levels. To incorporate DDUs, we present a novel chance-constrained optimization (CCO) approach for the day-ahead economic dispatch of GES units. Two tractable methods are presented to solve the proposed CCO problem with DDUs: (i) a robust reformulation for general but incomplete distributions of DDUs, and (ii) an iterative algorithm for specific and known distributions of DDUs. Furthermore, reliability indices are introduced to verify the applicability of the proposed approach with respect to the reliability of the response of GES units. simulation-based analysis shows that the proposed methods yield conservative, but credible, GES dispatch strategies and reduced penalty cost by incorporating DDUs in the constraints and leveraging data-driven parameter identification.
