In distribution power system, the unbalanced operating state, harmonics, negative sequence components, which are caused by the nonlinear or unbalanced loads, not only increase the power transmission losses, but also are harmful to the electric devices. In this situation, the Active power Filter (APF) and the Static Var Generator (SVG) would be required. However as proved in this paper, the existing compensation methods are usually affected by the unbalanced and harmonic voltages. So a compensation algorithm based on the amended Park Transformation which is suitable for the unbalanced power systems is proposed. In addition, referring to the inverter-based distributed generation (IBDG) developed rapidly in recent years, the presented compensation algorithm is integrated with the active power control scheme to build a hybrid control algorithm used in IBDG existing distribution system. Based on the stated control algorithm, IBDG not only can supply the electric power, but also compensate for the reactive power, harmonics and negative sequence currents of the distribution power system. The feasibility and accuracy of the algorithm are verified by the DIgSILENT powerfactory simulation.

This paper presents a new practical backup power supply connection scheme for Distribution Line Non-Communication Protection (DNCP). simulation tests have been conducted using the Alternate Transient Program (ATP) with respect to a typical single circuit breaker multi-section system. The results prove that the new scheme is able to not only recover the power supply of loads on healthy lines automatically, but also create disturbances in favor of Accelerated Over Current (AOC) criterion. Aiming at the failure of Directional Under Voltage (DUV) criterion derived from high voltage and large capacity induction motor load, a novel criterion using the increment of reactive power is proposed. © 2009 IEEE.

The air-gap magnetic field characteristic of the synchronous generator, caused by stator winding inter-turn short circuit fault, was analyzed in this paper with a consideration of the air-gap eccentricity. Then the characteristics of electro-magnetic torque and vibration of generator were obtained, especially the magnitudes and frequency variation of the instantaneous pulse torque. And the characteristic of the 17th and 19th order component of terminal current under this condition was also analyzed by the coupled field-circuit method. Lastly, in the dynamic simulation experiment, the vibration acceleration data in the vertical direction of a 7.5 kVA generator with stator winding inter-turn short circuit fault were acquired, and then these data were analyzed by discrete fast Fourier technique. The results show that the change of the double frequency vibration acceleration is bigger when stator winding inter-turn short circuit faults occur and the 17th and 19th order component of terminal current can be used to detect the dynamic eccentricity of machines with or without internal faults.

A proper evaluation on the power supply capability of urban distribution system is of enormous social and economical significance. In competitive marketing environment, to satisfy the sustainable growth of distribution loads, electric utilities must judge whether the return of power supply capability is sustainable and valued against the certain amount of investment. Therefore, to make up the insufficiency of traditional methods referring from the concept of total transfer capability of transmission system, this paper proposes a straightforward method to evaluate the power supply capability of distribution system, which is based on ldquoN-1rdquo simulation analysis of interconnected main-transformers under the ldquoN-1rdquo guideline. Firstly, a series of interconnected main-transformer groups are drawn from the main-transformers' interconnection analysis after the topological simplification of distribution system. Secondly, the maximum average load rates of main-transformers are concluded through the ldquoN-1rdquo simulation analysis of every interconnected group. Finally, based on a comprehensive analysis of all the interconnected groups' results, the maximum permissible load rate of each main-transformer can be obtained, thus the power supply capability of the entire distribution system can be calculated. Through the application in a district of Shanghai, China, the effectiveness and the accuracy of the method are demonstrated. The application results suggest that, the method presented in this paper based on ldquoN-1rdquo simulation analysis of interconnected main-transformers is a simple and practical tool, to evaluate the power supply capability of a distribution system, which will need only once calculation with constraint to the ldquoN-1rdquo guideline. Moreover, the interconnection weak-points and the interconnection bottlenecks of the distribution system can be identified easily with this approach, thus providing effective references for urban distribution

This paper presents a new method for optimal power flow with transient stability constraints (OTS). Based on the theory of projection energy function (PEF), the variation characteristic of minimum projection kinetic energy (PKE) in post-fault duration against generation of severely disturbed generators has been studied. The trajectory sensitivity mapping technique is utilized to evaluate the gradient of minimum PKE with respect to active power output of generators. Using the gradient, a new approach for stability-constrained generation limit assessment is proposed. Then the stability constraints represented by differential equation are converted into inequality constraints of active power outputs of generators. Thus, the OTS problem could be solved by traditional optimal power flow (OPF) method. The proposed approach can deal with multi-contingencies simultaneously. Case study on the 10-generator New England test power system is given to verify the efficiency of the method.

This paper presents a novel approach for dynamic congestion management (DCM) in an unbundled power system. In the DCM model, the objective function is constructed using the cost of the generation increment and an algebraic nonlinear programming is formulated. To establish the linear inequality of transmission limit constraints and transient stability constraints, generator shift factor and trajectory sensitivity are calculated, with which the nonlinear programming problem transforms into a linear programming. Hence, sequential quadratic programming is employed to assess the generation rescheduling for minimizing the objective function. A case study of DCM is performed on the 10-generator New England test system. Comparison between the proposed DCM and static congestion management (SCM) model verifies the validity of the model and the effectiveness of the method.

Application of Non-thermal plasma for gas cleaning is gaining prominence in recent years, which can effectively remove NOx and other exhaust gases simultaneously. As the present researches are mostly adopting simulation gas for the investigation, this paper employed the NOx from the actual diesel exhaust as the investigated subject. Effects of the amplitude and frequency of voltage, the diameter of high-voltage electrode, the reactor volume and the discharge gap on NOx removal were studied based on dielectric barrier discharge. Obtained results indicate that, the removal rate of NOx increased first and then decreased with increasing the magnitude and frequency of the voltage. With decreasing discharge gap, the removal rate of NOx increased. With increasing the volume of reactor and the diameter of high-voltage electrode, the removal rate of NOx increased.

Adaptive immune algorithm based data mining (AIA-data mining) is presented for fault diagnosis of power transformer. The information entropy is used for the production of the initial population, which leads to convergence speed of the algorithm to be faster than that of the initial population produced by random. On the basis of that, the bi-level search mechanism of the AIA further speeds up extraction of the decision-making table for the transformer fault diagnosis from the samples. Results from examples show that the method proposed is effective and feasible.

The computer-supported decision-making system has become an essential tool for the sustainable growth and expansion planning of modern urban power distribution network. Current packages with planning functions are independent packages, which are limited in the academic research. Presently, in Shanghai Municipal Electric power Company and its subordinate units, a geographic information system(GIS)-based production management system(PMS) has been applied successfully as the working platform in most departments, which makes the further research on the computer-aided decision-making system possible and feasible. Taking the PMS as the graphics supporting platform, this paper studies and develops a practical GIS-based decision-making support system for urban distribution network expansion planning, which establishes a primary foundation for information-based planning, daily-frequent planning and elaborate planning. Firstly, the physical structure of the system is designed with a four-layer hierarchical architecture, including the data layer, platform layer, application layer and performance layer, which is suitable for object-oriented development to ensure the security and stability of the system. Secondly, to satisfy the requirements of distribution expansion planning, the main functions of the system are divided into seven modules according to the planning process abstracted in the computer, including the module of current situation analysis, load forecasting, substation locating and sizing, network planning, cable channel planning, economic evaluation of planning and so on. There is at least one or one set of practical mathematical models and methods for planning adopted in each module to ensure the accuracy and reasonableness of the final planning results. Finally, an actual planning of Shanghai, China is accomplished with the expansion planning system. HAPF (HAPF) is composed of an active power filter (APF) and a passive power filter (PPF), for integrated harmonic compensation of unbalanced or nonlinear loads and compensation of reactive power. The PPF tunes at special harmonics and compensates reactive power to improve the power factor. The APF is composed of two full controlled three-phase PWM inverters. It traces harmonic current on system line, and works as a controlled voltage source, injecting current into system to eliminating harmonic current generated by nonlinear loads. In structure design, the PPF supplies fundamental series resonance brunch for APF to avoid enduring fundamental voltage. It lowers the rated capacity of APF and reduces the volume of APF. The adaptive increment control method is employed, which is simple and fast responding. It enables the control of APF independent of the parameters of PPF. It makes the filter flexible to harmonics, and overcome the effect of input current of APF. simulation and experiment have been carried out. The result shows that the design achieves expected goals. The harmonic in system is reduced below expect level, and the filter is fast response and adaptive to the harmonic current.
