In order to verify the short-circuit current characteristics of wind farms and the effects on power grids due to the large scale wind farms integration at Rongcheng substation, Shandong Electric power Company organized the three phase and single phase short circuit tests on Jun 12~(th), 2014. By using the field tests data got from the digital fault recorder, the short-circuit current characteristics of different types of wind turbines are compared. The wind turbine's contributions of the Squirrel Cage Induction Generator (SCIG), Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) to the system short-circuit current are analyzed in detail. In addition, the short-circuit current characteristics of wind farms are summarized and deeply understood from the field tests data. With the analysis results, the Shandong Rongcheng wind farms short-circuit field tests will have a very good reference and directive significance to the large scale wind power centralized integration of the actual power grids.

Numerical simulation plays a unique role in powersystem operation and control, and its accuracy turns out to be the focus of electric industry. Regenerative compressed air energy storage(RCAES) system is a practical and efficient solution to large-scale integration of renewable energy problems faced by powersystems currently. Appropriately modeling of RCAES system is critical to its practical application, whereas research in this area has been very limited. According to the energy storage and transformation process, a concise model of RCAES system applicable to power scheduling field is proposed. Then, a unit commitment model with RCAES system is formulated as a MILP problem which can be accurately solved with high computation efficiency by CPLEX. A modified IEEE 39 bus system is used to study the impacts of parameters of RCAES system on unit commitment and the effectiveness of the proposed model is then validated. Furthermore, the proposed model can also be employed to optimize key parameters of RCAES system, e.g. efficiency and capacity of each part in an integrated way.

Fan mill is an important device in thermal plants, which supply coal power to boiler. Crack failures recently occurred in pulverizing wheels of fan mills in a power plant in China. The cracks happens in quite a few pulverizing wheels and they affect the normal operation. To find out the root cause of the cracks, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of the pulverizing wheel is carried out in this work. The assembly with real dimensions is modelled to calculate the concentrated stress and strain with centrifugal load, driving load, and operational temperature taken into account. Contact effects are included in the finite element model as well as nonlinear material property. Based on the analysis, the crack causes are determined: (i) the initial stress exceeds the yield limit in normal operational condition, resulting low safety coefficient;(ii) the stress increases significantly in the worn pulverizing wheel, where the risk of failure is greatly increased.
