The effect of interfacial pressure on the insulation breakdown of the interface between a piece of XLPE and a piece of silicon rubber was investigated. A pair of plate-needle electrodes was sandwiched at the interface. A uniformly distributed weight was put on the sample with the interfacial pressure from 20 kN/cm2to 300 kN/cm2. The breakdown voltage and the discharge current were recorded;the light distribution at the interface were visually recorded and then analyzed. Results demonstrate that correlation exists between the discharge light and discharge current;breakdown voltage decreases with the decrease of interfacial pressure;both the distributions of light and current depend on the interfacial pressure. Therefore, sufficient interfacial pressure between cable and joint should be met to lengthen the cable joint's life expectation.

This paper presents a new practical backup power supply connection scheme for distribution line non-communication protection (DNCP). simulation tests have been conducted using the alternate transient program (ATP) with respect to a typical single circuit breaker multi-section system. The results prove that the new scheme is able to not only recover the power supply of loads on healthy lines automatically, but also create disturbances in favor of accelerated over current (AOC) criterion. Aiming at the failure of directional under voltage (DUV) criterion derived from high voltage and large capacity induction motor load, a novel criterion using the increment of reactive power is proposed.

The security constrained distributed optimal power flow (DOPF) of interconnected powersystems is presented. The centralized OPF problem of the multi-area powersystems is decomposed into independent DOPF subproblems, one for each area. The dynamic security region (DSR) to guarantee the transient stability constraints and static voltage stability region (SVSR) constraints, and line current limits are included as constraints. The solutions to the DOPF subproblems of the different areas are coordinated through a pricing mechanism until they converge to the centralized OPF solution. The nonlinear DOPF subproblem is solved by predictor-corrector interior point method (PClPM). The IEEE three-area RTS-96 system is worked out in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The busbars in high power neutral point clamped three-level inverters are modeled using the Maxwell Q3D Extractor software, which is based on the partial element equivalent circuits method. The equivalent circuits of the busbars and devices model are simulated in the electric simulator PSlM to analyze the effects of the parasitic inductance on the switching characteristics of the integrated gate commutated thyristor (IGCT) in different topology positions. The simulation results agree well with the measured impedance analyzer results and the IGCT test results, which proves the effectiveness of the modeling method for the large, complex busbars.

It's necessary to decrease the leakage inductance of transformer because it often produces a large voltage peak as device is turned off, meanwhile the large voltage peak is a source of EMI and produces a large voltage stress and affects the power supply's efficiency. This paper proposes a kind of low leakage inductance planar transformer with shunt magnetic circuit structure, the primary winding number of this structure can be decreased to 1 turn and the equivalent secondary winding can be decreased to less than 1 turn, therefore the leakage inductance can be decreased remarkably, and it can be used to various turns ratio of high frequency transformer expressly in the transformer of low voltage and large current power supply. This shunt magnetic structure is verified with Maxwell 3D.

The overvoltage phenomena of ultra high voltage (UHV) transmission lines are analyzed and verified by EMTDC/PSCAD simulation. Referring to the theoretical analyses and operating experiences of extra high voltage (EHV) transmission lines in China and UHV transmission lines in Russia and Japan, the methods to suppress the internal overvoltage in UHV transmission lines by protection and control strategies are discussed. Through the cooperation among the recloser, shunt reactor, tripping and closing resistance, and metal oxide varistor(MOV), the overvoltage can be restrained within an acceptable level.
